I did not noticed the length of the video before I clicked on it and reminiscing about it, I noticed I want to see more of the metal expanding table even though I just watched 40 minutes of it. Great video, thanks.

Well done Scott. Can’t wait to see how it develops beyond the prototype.

That's what non - mechanics can't imagine. In order to finally get something working there is so much to think about, so much trial and error as well as the strength to continue until you finally succeed. Thx for sharing your thoughts - catched myself nodding over and over again as i gathered the same experience. Looks like physics are the same over here :-)

This project has been one of the best payoffs on youtube in recent memory. It was great seeing all the R&D out of context and being able to go back and rewatch all those videos with an understanding of the parts. Thanks for going into all the details and processes; I know it's not the easiest way to build subscribers on youtube, but your channel is really only one in a handful that scratch that itch. Keep up the good work!

Are you considering to sell the mechanical table plans as well for people who might live overseas and/or want to build one on their own? I would love to own/ build one of these eventually but the import and transport prices scare me haha

I would definitely consider it, the time investment to draw and write up everything is an impediment but if the interest is there I'll do it.

Fantastic video Scott! Not only is the content something I find interesting, but I appreciate the in-depth journey into your development process. I recently finished building a CNC router and now plan on starting a table build from the wooden plans.

Congratulations for this very technical work. Is it possible to buy metal parts in order to make the table? If so, where is it possible? Thank you for quickly answering me.

Hello Scott, I am interested in incorporating your 'Expanding Table Kit' in one of my projects. Is there a better way for us to contact each other? Fabio

The tapered roller bearings should be positioned not face-to-face but back-to-back to increase the stiffness. In each case: Congrats!

I share your frustration with wire feed aluminum welding. What a mess.

Question: Why the development of your table using a metal foundation/structure? Why not just stick with your wood design?

A stiffer frame allows you to move the legs in, or have greater cantilevering --> larger table. It also necessitates learning new skills and acquiring more of what's really important in life: tools!

New ones are coming in the next two weeks. The recent work has been a lot of math and not very engaging from a video standpoint.

New videos coming soon, I've been working through a lot of details lately that aren't very engaging video content.

is it possible to view this video with a Russian translation?
@ScottRumschlag6 жыл бұрын
If you turn on captions and then switch the auto-translate language under the gear icon it looks like Russian is available.

Regarding welded or epoxied aluminum, have you looked at Alumaloy? Can do aluminum repairs or welding (brazing) with a propane torch and the material is stronger than the aluminum base when you're finished. I'm not associated with the product and I think there are a couple other branded versions of this aluminum alloy repair rod. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iouYpHdvnbaHr9k

I looked at it a bit but it seemed relatively expensive and I figured I might as well learn to TIG weld for its versatility.

Scott, I commented in the other video about the support arms, and after watching this video I think wooden support arms are possible. The top plate for the rolling mechanism could be fastened with flush mount screws. The leaf arms would be fastened to the rising collar then the entire collar lowered over the center using your "dove tail" type tracks. Love the design!!!!

The design for this is truly incredible. This is something I could totally see myself buying to build into a longer lasting table. I know on your site you say this project has stalled, but I am wondering, how much do you think the materials for this would cost?

Scott, love the video showing the vagaries of the prototype process. You might take a look at airpot.com for some of their damper mechanisms. Not sure if they will work in your application but they are very well-made, have long cycle lifetimes and might be of use.
