That’s a solid build right there mate. Love c that stain too

Thanks! I'm not usually a big fan of stain but I love how this turned out. It matches my front door (also stained oak) perfectly.

Looks great! How'd you fix the hook?
@dkbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I wasn't able to get the hook out, so I just drilled another hole right next to it. Luckily it broke off pretty flush so it's very hard to see, especially with the dark stained wood.
@MadHatter7644 жыл бұрын
I had the same happen to me, also with red oak, also at nearly full depth. The force needed to push the screw into the too-narrow pilot hole was too great at that point for the weak metal to support. The pilot hole needs to be wider than the "core" of the screw so that it only has to cut the threads in the hole walls. Its not going to be holding much weight so even if the threads cut in about 1/64", thats plenty for red oak.

So how did you get the broken hook thread out?
@dkbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Good question! I actually didn't get it out :( Fortunately it broke off pretty flush, so I just drilled another hole next to it. It's visible if you're looking for it, but you wouldn't notice it otherwise!

Great video 👍 I'm looking forward to follow your steps but I noticed you just glue the hanger on the back is that ok with weight ? I want to make one to atleast hold 20 coffee mugs. What can u recommend me to do?
@dkbuilds4 жыл бұрын
If you are gluing two wood surfaces together that are both very flat, a thin layer of wood glue is VERY strong. Definitely strong enough to hold 20 coffee mugs. Good luck!

How did you get that broken hook piece out of the board?
@dkbuilds4 жыл бұрын
I didn't :( Drilled a new hole right next to it, which worked pretty well because the hook broke off flush with the surface.

Looks great! How did you get that broken hook screw out?

Thanks! I actually didn't get it out hah. Drilled a new hole next to it instead. It isn't really noticeable unless you're looking for it!

Ha! It being on the bottom, nobody is going to be looking for it either.

I've had the same problem with the same brand of hooks. Must be chinesium.
@dkbuilds4 жыл бұрын
Hah. I think the issue is that the hooks are brass, which is very soft. Whenever I use brass screws I always strip the heads!
@doubledarefan4 жыл бұрын
@@dkbuilds The ones I've used were steel. They were gray in the center. The quickest way to find out is with a magnet.
