I do not remember when I got my Freud arm saw blade its so old and I'm wood working every day. I think most burning comes from the blade and fence being out of alignment.

Isopropyl alcohol. It desolves the turpentine in resinous wood. You don't even have to take the blade off. Just spray & wipe.

Great question! That is a special jig to drill holes in the center of dowels. I bought this one from Rob Cosman's online shop.
@lazlochatter17 күн бұрын
So no sanding at all. I’m pretty novice - what was the purpose for that decision? The quality of the wood was good enough to where you didn’t feel it was merited? Is planing down the dowels easier/better than sanding?
@dkbuilds11 күн бұрын
That's a great question! A properly sharpened hand plane actually leaves a smoother surface than with sanding. To be honest sanding works just as well, but using a hand plane is a much more enjoyable experience than sanding :)

Dude please educate yourself on different blade types: the blade you're using for cuts along the grain is far too fine. You're ruining the blade and exposing yourself to greater risk of an accident.
@dkbuilds27 күн бұрын
It’s a combination blade which is appropriate for rip and cross cuts. Not as good for ripping as a rip blade, not as good for cross cuts as a cross cut, but a reasonable middle ground. Not ruining anything or increasing any accident risk.
@JudasZidle29 күн бұрын
Actually just had to explain this to "an expert" while trying to cut hard maple on his table saw. "I just got that blade! All I made was that thing made out of pine, spruce, pine, red pine, spruce..... it shouldn't be dulll or burning anything!" It had a hell of a time just taking the blade thickness off of some milled boards, and even though it removed it, it left huge black/burnt swirls. In this case..... the blade definitely needs a good cleaning and I am thinking that he is full of it and it's the same blade the damn saw came with. LOL Just like spark plugs in cars!!!! "Nope... water in the gas or a plugged filter." How old is this car? Just had an oil change eh? Ooooh I see..... low km's at 200,000..... Nope... plugs wouldn't be the culprit at all.... >_> xD Honestly.... just give the blade a wipe with some solvent after each use and you'd know when your blades truly are dull and you'd also have a lot nicer looking product regardless. This also goes for files and drill bits!
@dkbuilds10 күн бұрын
Lol! Great story, and great tip with files and drill bits! Thanks for sharing

The first video I watch of yours was your Hecto coaster video. I was so impressed with your skills, your talking us through it all and you twin was so helpful 😉 that I subscribed. But this Impossible Vanishing Sliding Bolt Trick was a huge disappointment and only watched less than a minute of it. Then I started watching part 1 of your router table build. Glad you were honest and shared your mistakes and pitfalls. I learn much more from people who are kind enough to talk (and teach ) us what they are doing. Music and no talking are good reasons for me to either not subscribe or unsubscribe. I'll continue watching any videos that you talk about your builds. Trying to watch someone and read their transcription at the same time, just doesn't do anything other than distract me. Keep up the great work!

DK Builds, I just finished a project using old heart of pine flooring taking from a 150 year old Philly home. I used my table saw today and it would barely cut anything. Of course, I thought the blade was dull (maybe the ancient boards?) and jumped straight to thinking "sharpen". I clicked here and I'm so glad I did. Of course the blade was completely gummed up with tough pine resin and your solution worked perfectly to dissolve the resin. Just as advertised. THANK YOU. I likely would have just defaulted to getting a new blade. To your point, while the blade I have was more than two years old and used quite a bit for a non professional it was not "dull" at all. It's actually still very sharp, like new, and just needed cleaning. Great advice!

The customer is my wife so delivery wasn't an issue :) That is a good point though. If you are building this for a customer and shipping, you may want to use a knock down construction.
