Wonderfully clear video - and I've been appreciating your 'slowed down' philosophy of life as expounded on your website too. I will contact you to get the paypal invoice for the PDF of the charts as you suggest. Thank you so much, in anticipation. (I've made a basic wavy patterned card woven band before, and can't wait to add text. I love your finished name band).

Thank you for all the videos. I'm a beginner.. How do you know which direction to flip the cards? and which cards to flip?
@lindahendrickson9 ай бұрын
For weaving letters, I arrange the tablets so they are alternately-threaded across the pack. After you finish making a continuous warp, flip the tablets as necessary so the threading direction alternates. For letters, it doesn't really matter whether you start with a right-threaded or left-threaded tablets.

hi Linda! I love watching all your videos. I'm about to start card weaving for the first time and I'm nervous about dealing with the twist build up on the border edges. What is the best way to deal with this?
@lindahendrickson9 ай бұрын
I make my border warp about 6" longer than the pattern section, and then cut the border threads and tie them so they hold but can be untied fairly easily. Then when the twist builds up, I secure the tablets, push out the twist one tablet at a time, and re-tie the threads. Alternatively, you could either reverse direction when twist builds up, or flip the border tablets and then continue weaving in the same direction. Just be aware that reversal points are noticeable in the finished band.

Am I just going crazy or is Linda turning the background pack cards backward when the turning directions say forwards and vice versa?

Use two colors with good value contrast. Put the background color in A and B, and the design (letter) color in C and D.

No, but you could graph them. The book has letters based on Gill Sans, Textura Quadrata. Uncial, Humanist Bookhand, Italic, and Legend.

hi.dear lind.i am from iran .i have your double faced tablet weaving 50 designs but i have not cd .how can i do .how i find in youtube.thank you

The method for weaving in "Double-Faced Tablet Weaving: 50 Designs from Around the World" is the same as shown in this video. However, before you start weaving, you need to arrange the threading direction as shown in the graph. The turning direction for each row is indicated on the graph.

Is tablet weaving a way of doing pick-ups mechanically?
@lindahendrickson9 ай бұрын
In some cases, I guess you could think of it as turning the tablets in certain ways instead of picking up the threads with your fingers. An example would be Andean pebble weave, which is usually done on a backstrap loom with pickup. It is not traditionally done using tablets, but the Dutch tablet weaver Marijke van Epen analyzed the weave structure and determined how to weave the patterns with tablets.
