I solved this simply in my head without reaching for algebra. There were three steps. 1. Start at the half way point, 188/2 is 94 2. Halve the difference, 34/2 which is 17 3. Add and subtract to get the two numbers. 94 + 17 = 111 and 94 - 17 = 77 Simples ☺️

I actually chose a different route. Since we are told the difference between the two numbers is 34, I used this equation: x + (x+34) = 188 which simplifies down to 2x + 34 = 188 2x = 188 - 34 2x = 154 x=77 Plugging that into my original equation: 77 + (77 + 34) = 188 We now get the two numbers: 77 + 111 + 188

I did it in my head in around 12 seconds. half of 188 is 94. Half of 34 is 17. Add 17 to 94 and it equals 111 Subtract 17 from 94 and it equals 77. 111-77=34 LOL It actually took longer to write this than it did to solve it in my head.

I never learned Algebra, I just took 188 minus 34 = 154 divide by 2 = 77 then add 34 to "one of the two" 77's making one "111" and leaving the other at "77" and that makes the two numbers "111" and "77"....using Algebra seems messy.
