The Daily Happening yep, I totally know how to use technology and fast forward which I eventually did but it’s annoying to have to do that. Thank you! I rarely see Jr. High/ High school teachers that will really teach students how to factor. Instead they always teach grouping (ac method), which doesn’t build on and reinforce what has been previously learned (distribution and FOILing), it does not teach students to think mathematically. Students are so damaged by teachers teaching the grouping method and it is then hard to fix that in the future. So I applaud you for teaching this in a way that truly helps students learn rather than just get through an assignment. On trinomials with leading coefficient of one I prefer not to teach the, “find factors of c that add to b”. I find to often when students learn that they then struggle to learn to factor when the leading coefficient is not 1 because they continue to try to find factors of c that add to b. So for me I like to just teach the “double smiley face” reverse FOIL for both types, it adds to consistency. That being said most students figure it out anyways.
@bbqchicken8681 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the main reason I watched this video was so that I could factor when the leading coefficient is greater than one
@truuluvv3 ай бұрын
When I was in middle school and high school, I just read the instructions in the chapter, but all I remember from trigonometry was a squared plus b squared equals c squared, and believe it or not, my carpenter/drywaller husband knew this while never taking higher math. Now I also know how to factor a squared minus b squared. I'm set for life.

Being 25, almost 26 and getting ready to go to college, this is helping me relearn algebra for the ACT. I still got to brush up my Science and then I'll be good to go.

Thank you for the video. I have been out of school for about 10 years and find myself preparing for a qualifying test that will cover math skills that I haven’t used since then. This helped me recover some of what I had been taught in high school. Much appreciated!

I can't thank you enough for this video, as I try to help my daughter understand this. The double smiley face..was a game changer for me!!!!! Also you gave the best explanation of how to decide which method of factoring to use!

Been out of school for a decade now. Needed a refresher and this was perfect, and the double smile method is way quicker than foil
