This one was pretty simple and did it in my head in about 15 seconds. The way the operators are in this problem, just go left to right to get the answer of 16. do the divide first, then the multiply, and last the addition. Whalah - answer 16. Assuming you know basic division, multiplication, and addition. Rules - division and multiplication operators are first to do, then any addition and subtractions are second in order to do. This problem, just go left to right to get the answer.

Left to right is a contrivance which is not valid in many cases. This is explained in other posts. Also the division sign is not proper notation. Here it should be rewritten with 18 as the numerator and (2x3) as the denominator. Then we have 18/6 = 3+4 = 7. I don’t want anyone who thinks otherwise designing anything for me. If you really want one operation done first, put brackets around it.

If this had been written with proper fraction lines the problem would have been quite clear. STOP DOING THIS NONSENSE. You are not teaching math you are teaching ambiguity. I have a university degree in physics, and in higher education. NO MATH PROBLEM IS WRITTEN THIS WAY. And the reason is to avoid ambiguity.

I avoid this problem by not ever using the division sign used in the problem. I use fractions as in algebraic notation. I would put 18 in the numerator and 3*2, which = 6, in the denominator. 18/6 =3. Then add 5 and get 7. However if you use the division sign as shown, the you do Multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. My Dear Aunt Sally. It is still 18 divided by 6 which is 2, plus 4 equals 7. Alternatively one could do division and multiplication interchangeably, and possibly get 18 divided by 3, which is 6, multiply that by 2 and get 12, then add 4 to get 16. But if you don't use the division sigh and use fractions, you don't have any way of getting 16. That 2 cannot go in the numerator. so you can't multiply 6 times 2. In short, i wuold not ever write a math problem the way it is written here. It is ambiguous here.
@newstarcadefan

It's not ambiguous. This is basic elementary school arithmetic. Also It matters not if it's the fraction Bar, the slash, or the division symbol, or the division box. You are wrong, as is this teacher. Not only did I have an MA in international finance, where I took all graduate courses required for a PhD in math, but taught at universities in Michigan and Nevada, and one of the top 10 private schools in the US at the time, Cranbrook, which has tuition of $40,500 per year. So if I am wrong, you are stating that the math textbooks I studied out of at Duke University and Michigan State in their graduate program, are wrong. That the PhD's who wrote those books are wrong. That the textbooks I taught out of at university are wrong, and at one of the top private schools in the US is wrong. I will prove this video to be wrong, and refer you to a video that "Pemdas" is a lie...or something to that effect. That shares of how engineers and scientists do not operate with this teaching, which is pre-algebra, and simply wrong. With 18/3x2 + 4....it is pretty clear that 18 is the numerator and 3x2 is a product. It is also clear that with the order of operations, multiplication and division have priority over addition. So lets say a=18, b=3, and c=2. for 18/3x2, which is how this is written ,that is a/bc. Well a/bc = a/bx1/c, and not (a/b) x c The problem isn't written 18/3 x2, but rather 18 divided by 3x2. What is 3x2? That is clearly a product. The product isn't 18/3, which is 6 x 2. The answer is not 16, but 18/6, as again 3x2 is a product, and that is how this is written out, but 3, plus 4, which equals 7. So I hope you learned something, which includes not mocking people who may have gotten things right (for which I didn't look at John's comment), when you are wrong. So if you think that with that little algebraic proof, and using the order of operations, and evaluating the written expression; That having taken PhD courses in math, and having taught math at universities and a top private school, that I am wrong, and that all of my teachers and professors from high school through graduate school are wrong, and all of the PhD's who wrote the math textbooks that I studied from and taught out of are, wrong, but some person who teaches pre-algebra wrongfully makes a video that calls myself and all of these PhD's and textbooks to be wrong...... Then I would recommend you for membership to the flat earth society.
