This felt soooo validating to watch! I've played in some very low leagues, and occasionally I've played against opponents whose style and material didn't suit me at all, and I really struggled. Often lost very decisively. Seeing one of the world's top-ranked player struggle similarly (losing 0:11 in the first game, and losing the first three games straight) showed me that this still can happen to the best. Brilliant how Szocs came back, but also brilliant from Ni how she exploited every weakness in her opponent's game, how she placed the balls, and her blocks of even the most spinny topspins... Fabulous.

Wow! I think this is one of the most thrilling matches I've ever seen. Bernie was down 3-0 and I thought it would be an easy win for Lian but what a come back. Both players are amazing! Truly a nail biter matach.

I look like I am at my 20s, except for my hair, but I am 62. I can still run 100m perhaps even faster than when I was young cause I didn't know the technique. Take care of your body and it will age much slower. LOL

Hats off to Granie.. Bernie couldn't do much but to expolite Granies only one weakness i.e. her back hand on the left hand side. 12-0 First game was just WOW! Also Ni was focusing on her game then screams. LOL and btw this is coming from a Bernie's fan. Felt sorry for the Granie but she took the defeat elegantly and without over reacting. Granie earned a lot of respect and this is how an athlete should behave. Ni is a true legend

That's what usually happens when playing against players with Anti Spin rubber. It's extremely difficult to play against them. You have to force them to make mistakes, it's always hard to return their slow ball across the net.

Szocs won two games before being eliminated in the round of 16. Grandma Ni won her first game, and then ran into world number 1 Sun Yingsha in the round of 32, who promptly eliminated her. Although Ni was nice enough to train with Sun for a bit and give her some pointers on the old school long pips style of the North Korean mixed doubles competitor Kim Kum Yong. The North Korean duo had relied on Kim's unorthodox style to take down multiple higher seeded nations to face China in the finals, and even took 2 games from team China, which is far and away the highest ranked mixed doubles team in the world. Looks like the informal coaching from grandma Ni was quite helpful then.

Bernie was brilliant- she never gave up. She’s a worthy winner against a formidable opponent who at 61 was dismissive of her young opponent. She was wrong not to at least acknowledge her defeat let alone shake hands and congratulate Bernie. All people should respect each other. ✌️

Flipping the red side of invert to serve and back to black side short pips to prevent spins , only good for beginning. And too old to flip at the end. That what the bottom heavy good about.
