I loved the intro, haha! Endless circles in the sand, I am there now! I was taught to leave the headcollar on like that, it is a good safety measure! I love watching people tack up, it is weirdly entertaining in a vicarious way, especially on days I don't go to the barn! Love all you do, so fun to watch! And Hughie is just adorbs, of course! 😍💞🐎

I found this so interesting to see in depth what you use. Just a small safety note, if the head collar is round the neck, it’s safer to have the lead rope undone so you still have control but they can’t strangle themselves if they spook. Of course there may be a reason you don’t do this so please feel free to let me know if that’s the case ☺️☺️ this is the first of your videos I’ve watched but I’ll definitely be watching more!

Hey Mands, can you please explain to me the pros and cons of the bib rings compared to the separated rings? You did mention the chewing but I’m sure there are more reasons. Thanks 😊
@amandarosseventingfit68034 жыл бұрын
Emma Briggs Hi! Good question - a bib also keeps the reins closer together than separate rings, & creates a straighter/more direct & parallel rein contact along the neck. I use them because the lads are chewers! I’ve seen horses get the separate leather ring strap caught around there teeth & get in a real panic. That being said, I think a bib is too wind resistant for XC, so I opt for the separate rings there. I hope that helps answer your question!
@emmabriggs61294 жыл бұрын
Amanda Ross Eventing Fit thanks!! A further question if I could...in what what ‘horsey circumstances’ would you recommend to someone to switch to a bib?

Loved it! Always so insightful to find out what and why other Eventers use. Especially someone with so much experience. Do Bombers advise you on which bits to use or are you able to explain why you use which bit for which phase on each horse.
@amandarosseventingfit68034 жыл бұрын
JEDS Equine thanks for your comments! Bombers have taught me a lot about their bitting methods, which I think have revolutionized the way I understand why horses react certain ways to the contact. I’ve always been really interested in bitting, because I’m small & not as strong as a big guy. I had a large collection of bits that I experimented with to further understand the responses from heaps of different horses. Due to Bombers education, I now understand the horses mouth shape & size, plus their preferences tongue/bar/poll pressure, determines which mouthpiece & cheeks they go better in. This has been requested quite a bit, so I’d better do a video!!

Great video. Interested to hear your thoughts on tightening the girth with the strap closest to the shoulder first, then the other one next? I had always done it like that, until recently when I had a saddle fitter tell me I should never do it!!

Hi Amanda! Loved this video! Firstly, is this winter in victoria? In NSW I haven't really seen many people use fleeces even on clipped horses (maybe I am just ignorant!). Secondly, I have been riding all my life and have recently purchased a rising seven 15.1 OTTB mare who has the kindest nature but seems to be a bit girthy. It seems simple, but would you be able to please do a tutorial on how to make sure a saddle (all purpose) and girth are properly fitted so as not to create/perpetuate back pains? Also, would you be able to please give any tips on putting on boots? I have been given two pairs of very expensive boots (one pair for tendon protection particularly when lunging, and the other for riding, i think), but having never used boots before (and I'm sure my horse hasn't either), I'm worried about introducing them to her and doing them up too tight. Thanks so so much!!! xx

Titian B thanks for the great feedback & suggestions! Yes it’s winter in Victoria, & I’m down south so it’s pretty wet & cold - fleece weather! I’ll have a chat to Bates Saddles about a fitting video, & look at doing some boot fitting tutorials!
