Having a tractor on the property is a game changer. Just traded in the Kubota I had for years for a cab model LX2620 and chores are way more fun on the acreage. You'll love that unit!

I think you would love a Ventrac with their huge flex deck mower. Pretty interesting. Check it out David. Nock it down with the brush hog if it has been neglected for a few months. Ventrac for every other time. You could have a golf course looking property. You would love the snow blower and cab.

It looks almost like Burdock from what I can see. We deal with it quite often with our vegetation management company in southern BC. With areas where water is more then 15 meters away, we found reclaim II with gateway adjuvant works best, just spot spray the whole plant and within a few weeks they’ll brown up and die. Where water is less then 15m away we just use a shovel and dig down about 6-8” down and cut the stalk off, then back fill the hole and put the plant in a garbage bag so the seeds don’t fall off on the way to the burn pile.

That is impressive to see the advantage of a 26 hp PTO driven attachment maintaining a steady mower rpm, where a 74 hp hydraulic powered mulcher head on a dedicated skid steer where all those burdock stalks would cause pauses while rpm was restored.

Learning how to control deck height by feel. And how to sharpen the blades is most important. I use a bench grinder for blade sharpening. Everyone has their own preferences on how to do it.
@andrewt92042 ай бұрын
I use a flap disk on my blades, gives it a nice even convex edge that lasts longer, but isn't quite as initially sharp as a straight grind.

David, I have the same tractor. It is a bit weak for me when I Bush hog and heavy stuff. I wish I had bought the next tractor size up. It will find if you get into the heavy stuff. It will pull-down the brush oak. And you have to wait for it to wind. Backup 26 horsepower. Not quite just Eno it gets the job done. But again when I get into heavy stuff and going app hill, it will pull it down pretty quick and I keep a good watch on my temperature. Just a note if you have the opportunity to be able to upgrade to the next size up. I am sure you will be much happier. Either way, the one you have will get the job done. Just a bit of a strain on it from time to time. Fantastic video as always. You are number one brother.

Great video, always exciting getting a new piece of machinery. I’m surprised that they sold you a bush hog rather than a flail mower for what you guys are clearing. In my opinion they are much more versatile because you can get them with the grass knives for grass and then hammers that will cut grass well and will mulch trees up to 4” thick and the hammers mulch them up. Something to think about in the future. I have a 23hp kubota BX23S and it runs the flail mower with ease.

Mrs. O will be ready for a bigger tractor with 10/12 foot batwing mower soon. Did they suggest a flail mower? I our area the rotary cutters like that are outdated. Keep an eye on engine temperature. Some radiators tend to plug with weed seeds. You might want ballast unless the tires are loaded. I love my little compact tractor. I love the straw hat.

Never get off a tractor and leave the engine running, always disengage the PTO first and double check that brakes are on. I've attended to too many farmers injured or killed by their own equipment. Or others like close family members. Familiarity does breed complacency.

Not trying to be a negative Nelly, but I seriously think that tractor is way under size for over 100 acres. In my opinion going with the 5145 would have been a better option. it's only a couple thousand dollars more and it's twice the tractor.
