Solo backpacking trip for Ron in southern Colorado on the Elk Creek trail. This area is in the South San Juan Wilderness, near Cumbres Pass and Antonito Colorado.
Ron did 2 day/1 night on the trail, camping for the night at an established campsite he found. It rained off and on the whole trip but it didn't take away from the amazing beauty. He was even greeted by a herd of elk on his hike out.
Total hike: Day 1 = 14 miles, Day 2 = 4 miles
This trail can be a multi-day backpacking trip, going 20-30+ miles out and back or a loop joining with another trail. It also meets up with the CDT at around 18 mile point from the trailhead.
Hike rating = Moderate to Difficult, lots of ups and downs, altitude.

This was a yearly trip I used to do before I “grew up”. Last time was 2012. What memories this video brought back. I hope one day to take my family there.

Do I get a prize for being sub #500? That campsite at the western end of 2nd meadows looked familiar...I think that I've been there before.

haha.... Ron loved that backpacking trip! Since most of the Pecos is closed, it was hard to find anything for him until you posted your video of it. So thanks for the rec.
