Are you tell me, that you took time out to contact google maps to get this place on the map. What about the Jamaican tourism board 🤦♂️. Thanks Irene for promoting Jamaica 🇯🇲
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE3 жыл бұрын
Jamaican Tourist Board cannot add things to google maps, because for that they will need to register as Local Guide with gmail account, would be strange for a Government agency I guess :)

I was impressed with that too
@Jazz-pu1qw3 жыл бұрын
You can do that to. Google loves people to help. You will even gets credits and incentive. Taking pictures where you go and post them on Google. I do that.
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE3 жыл бұрын
@@Jazz-pu1qw Yep, anyone can do that, however, there is a difference between adding pictures to places that already exist on Google maps and actually adding the place itself. If you're adding a business - it's easy, if you're the owner - just prove the address, but if it's a historical landmark - you need to prove to Google that it's a genuine place, its historical background and that the location is where you say it is. Google denied my addition first, that's why it took longer than usual.

I hope that this place remains as it is, untouched and hard to get to. I think turning it into an attraction will ruin the magic of this place. Getting there should be half the adventure and hiring a local guide from the nearby town can still help support locals. Just my 2 cents 🤑🤑
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE3 жыл бұрын
Yes, getting there currently is a part of the adventure, which would be lost if the place becomes commercial, that's why I don't have a clear opinion on the situation and using this platform to get ideas from others! :))) Thank you for sharing! Much appreciated!

Thank you Irina for taking the time to contact Google in order to get Tacky Falls on the map. You are so adventurous, and your videos are always exciting and informative. My opinion about the Falls is to leave it as it is, so that it can be an adventure for people who loves to experience thrills with little or no budget. Once you start to charge to get to the fall, even if the admission fee is minimal, eventually the price will go up and this will exclude people who are on a small budget. It would be good though, if the government could fix up the trail so it wouldn't be that dangerous

@JAMAICAWITHIRIE3 жыл бұрын
Actually, I was wondering why Tacky wasn't made a National Hero in Jamaica, and then I read about his "dark side". It is said that he was a slave trader in Ghana, maybe that's why he wasn't made a hero and they don't teach about him at school? 🤔 On the other hand, regardless of his past before he was brought to Jamaica, he is still one of the key leaders who changed history and contributed to the abolition of slavery in the whole world, so I personally think he should be made a National Hero. I'm still working on finding all the original proofs to the information about Tacky, because I don't want to rely on what's currently available in open internet - there are no sources for some of the claims made, meaning some of them can be made up.

@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE none of our empowering history isn't taught in schools unfortunately. They only tell us the existing names of the national hero's and a skim of their history. I fell in love with the Author of the literature that I follow the Holy Bible and I have not regretted it yet. The Author whom I quoted from designed this world and told His creation {us} to *fill it* not once but twice He commanded it; once to the first humans Adam and Eve and a second time to the 10th generation from Adam and that would be Noah. Listen I don't want us to get into it right here on Irina's video and it's a beautiful video she has here and I really respect Irina and don't want for us to distract others from her video. I've enjoyed Dunn's River, Mayfield and Reach Falls so far, but not YS or Laughing Waters. Hopefully one day soon. Tacky Falls should be made more open and more safely accessible, yes, but in the most forward thinking, eco-minded way, with respect to all that history there and the nature and the local people of course as well. I know Jamaicans are up to developing this new national treasure of theirs and showcasing it to the world, and you Irini are taking your place in Jamaican history as a pioneer, a frontier woman of modern times with your videos, knowledge, love and passion for Jamaica. I picture a live feed on a website, updating and predicting flow conditions for visitors. I didn't know Jamaica has 100 waterfalls as I'd never thought of a number before but I'm glad you're saying that because it widens our perspective and deepens our appreciation of the real Land of Wood and Water. Jamaica was never connected to any other landmass, unlike the other islands of the Caribbean. I don't think we can repeat this fact enough.

Now in regard to the question that you have asked if historical places like these should be highlighted !! ... well my answer to that is " YES 👍 " I do think that places like these should be publicly known because how else typical Jamaican like myself would know about it 👁👁 and also we have to remember that there are foreign entities out there such as certain Mining Company who doesn't give a "damn" about Jamaica's historical values or it's history and if they ever got the chance to historical places like these will be totally destroy in a twinkling of an eye ... Irina not only that but places like these with such a rough Terrain need to be developed so that tourists and locals who wish to visit can have proper access to these historical sites and to further add to that it will also provide job opportunities for some people in these Community such as tour guides and others .... I've recently heard of Takie Falls and in my mind I thought it was in Portland or St Thomas never did I think of it been in St Mary. You have one up on me here. You're an explorer. Now that you have unearthed it, I think it's full time to show it off. I say make a proper trailway to it. It must be done in a way in which the environment is not too disturbed. Use rails to keep feet only on the pathways. 1/2 dozen cabins could be added for those who want to spend a night on edge 😁. So even when the fall is dry it would still be worth visiting. This would be a great boost to that area. I see s few new jobs to keep it well maintained. I say GO for this one. Keep up the good work.!

Developing it would make it too touristy and when big companies or the government come in many locals are left out of the picture, even to the effect where they cant enjoy (go to it freely ) their rivers anymore. However I am not against a little bit of promotion or development on it. This could also remain as apart of " off the beaten track package that locals would manage, like be guides, maintenance and so forth.
