Ya the suspension on my 06 manual crew cab gave failed last year. So I upgraded to Icons 2.5 all the way around. Then put 33s on. After doing a ton of research on regearing. I'm planning on going 4.88s with arb front and rear locker's. ECGS seems to be best option for me as well. Figure if I have to do anymore gear work after this, then I'll at least be familiar with removing the clamshells. Super job on your explaining the situation. Although I disagree with regearing not being a sexy mod. Sexy is a feeling and not a look for me. And lots of low end torque is as sexy as it gets😏

Fun fact that the v6 comes with 3.73s but the i4 comes with 4.10s. Take that as you will but I would bet the engineers felt the truck would perform better with a higher ratio but cut it for fuel economy. There's a web tool I used to calculate the rpms vs gearing vs speed and I believe I ended up deciding I will go with 33's and 4.56. this will put me a little slower and more torquier than factory without killing my daily driver performance.

2007 Tacoma 4.0 automatic, with 37's went with 5.29, front & rear ARB lockers, I'll have to check the speedo for accuracy but i'm guessing 3000 rpms pushing 75+, mileage around 10-11 mpg fully loaded heavy truck full size spare, custom bed rack, roof rack, tools, custom steel bumpers, warn winch, jack, bed rack, etc.. Prior to regear, 3.73's on 37's averaging about 10-11 mpg, I was expecting a min of 15 mpg with the regear but i do drive with a heavy feet 70-75+ mph to work and back about 12 miles each way. I do notice a lot of torque, big difference. I do most of the work on my truck myself, but don't do gears, cost around 4k labor and parts with 3-yr warranty.. Rear arb locker I had prior only had to buy locker up front. Thought I'd share my experience for those interested.. any regrets, no - but a little disappointed in mileage since I've heard many claim better mileage, maybe they unload their trucks and drive 55-60 all times..??

I was thinking about getting a spartan locker for my 5 speed manual 1st gen IFS 4runner. Also, 33" tires. I was wondering if I should regear to 4.88 and if I should regear, is the locker part number dependent on what gearing I have?

4.88 should work. I may even suggest 4.56, if you don't do a lot of rock crawling. Locker is independent from gearing. I would suggest air lockers instead of the spartan locker if you're also using this as a daily
