The Trail hunter is a nice truck with a lot of great features but there's no way that stickers for less than $60k before any dealer markups. On top of that I think most people who would actually use it for overlanding are going to want to swap out the tires pretty quickly. The front bumper looks like it would be pretty hard to add an aftermarket bumper without cutting a lot of plastic and that "skid plate" you pointed out looks puny. I think the ZR2 will prove to be the much better value, they can be bought at MSRP well equipped in the low 50s and already comes with F/R lockers, great suspension, and a good set of 33" tires. The bison edition ZR2 will likely be close in price to the trail hunter and offer a lot more. It looks like most of the AEV bison bumpers and skid plates will bolt right up to the ZR2 as well without much modification.

Why would you not want a fuel cap seem like a great way to get dirt water debris in the tank
@jreyman11 ай бұрын
This is my thought also. Engineers apparently have never been in wet muddy conditions. Had to put fuel in a former employers (non GM) truck with the then new capless system. It was full of dirt and no way to get it all out, so some dirt went in. Also, in wet weather, I;m sure some water pools there, and ends up in the fuel, too. Capless is a really dumb idea.

Don’t know why Toyota is allergic to front lockers. That and long travel for the top trims would take it to the next level. But I’d still go the taco route personally and just throw a front locker in there if I had the funds.

My only gripe about this vehicle, which I hope it's changed from this pre-production model, is how shiny the plastic inside is on the doors and such. Hoping that's just a mold being used for now, and the final product has a more matte plastic color.

Will the taco power Tailgate fall off like I've seen in the desert? I'm sure the tires are pre production. Yes I know the trd pro came with a decent tire. One can hope 😂

the reliability and off road capabilities of the Tacoma has been proven over the years, also I would take Old Man Emu or Fox over the GM made suspension any day because they have been proven. GM has come a long way though and i give a thumbs up for that.

How reliable are the engines in Colorado?
@domin8ss Жыл бұрын
They're pulling around Silverados and Sierra. I bet they're working more efficiently in a lighter truck. Toyota didn't put their 4 cylinder in the Tundra. I think that's very telling.

Need display on the ZR two till it fails, but the truck still runs. I might prefer analogue gauges, time-tested for decades, and one of the last things on an older vehicle to actually break down from vehicles I own as far as the 1972 Chevy nova, Oldsmobile Cutlass, 1986 Chevy Cavalier … and today, my 2022 Toyota 4Runner.

So the Toyota is essentially a year behind and then offers no front locker, worse tires, worse shocks, less wheel travel, has to rely on hybrid to make similar power and will undoubtedly be more expensive. Just like last generation, only thing they offer is the name and then we cross our fingers and hope it’s reliable unlike the new tundra.

I love the ZR2!!! Too bad I mod my trucks out beyond what each of these are capable of from the factory so I will always choose the more reliable one. Tacoma in 2024 basically has full size truck ring and pinion gears so it’s good for 37-40s. Whereas I’m pushing it big time now on 40s.

I’m a huge fan of technological advances but personally I don’t want the majority of the things I need in a screen. I don’t trust technology THAT much. But that’s just me. It’s a hard choice. Love the look of the taco but I can’t help thinking there’s a a lot you could save money on by doing yourself. But Toyota is known for reliability. Chevys got some good things going for that ZR2 and I’d prefer the less is more look definitely. I’d just want it to make sure I get from point A to point C without stopping at B. But I’m not even looking into buying a truck yet so these are just my thoughts 😂😂
