Cold air intakes will not improve economy with a computer controlled injected system. It will slightly in a carburetor engine, but with a modern system, the sensors tell the computer the engine is getting more air so it maintains proper fuel trims by INCREASING FUEL. With a old carb engine that is jetted on the rich side, the new intake s increased airflow will help lean out an overly rich engine and make it more efficient.

Strangebas i had my tacoma for 6 months before i got both on sale. Installed and made a big difference in sound. Way loud growl. Also the cold air intake made a big difference in the pedal response. There is no delay. Now this is on a 2018 TRD Tacoma manual. Seriousky loud and much more prep and go. Automatics are horrible compared to the standard. Add a pedal commander didnt make any difference. Same as itvwas prior. However the top setting with pedal commander, slighly better. Any kther of the lower features reduce acceleration. Just make sure itsbinstalled correctly, and the cokd air intake actually has a good source of cokd air. If therevis no vents in the fender area to draw in outside air, you are getting nothing. And i mean good large vents.

Want to improve fuel economy on the 3rd gen tacoma? Regear, regear, regear. I highly recommend the nitro 4.88 gearing. Even on stock tires! The factory 3.90 gearing is an absolute atrocity and is why these trucks are so bad in mpg and so shifty. 3k dollars for parts and labor and the truck will be what it’s supposed to be. Toyota should be sued for what they’ve done to these trucks.

So, you want power and sound, don't buy a tacoma summed up haha. But honestly it has enough power especially if tuned properly

@@RobMotive why don't you just put a supercharger on it if you want to throw money for real performance. Because you most definitely will gain significant power for $6k. A Magnuson supercharger plus labor seems like better money spent then the $2k already in useful so called performance oriented parts that do very little. So you might as well do something that will would make a noticeable difference for once.....🥱

I’m not convinced it’s that noticeable. Price wise...more like $8-10K.

True sadly. Toyota needs to put a 4.7 or bigger V8 in these trucks.

Better yet do a KandN drop in filter ($50). Remove the charcoal airbox after filter (free). Have a muffler shop install a generic free flow muffler ($200). Good to go!

How’s the sound?

@@RobMotive Sounds as good as any high dollar set up. I'm sure on a dyno these upgrades would show decent results however probably not enough to feel much behind the wheel. Perhaps if you were towing a heavy trailer you could notice a slite increase in performance.
