Bought my 2019 Tacoma (2019 TRD Off Road) new in Jan of 2019...I now have 250 Trouble free miles...many in 4WD. I wouldn't trust any other small truck to equal that - there than the 4runner (my wife has a 22 4runner pro). I actually think the cost with the capabilities/reliability makes the Tacoma a nice value. We own 5 vehicles and the Tacoma is the least expensive and in my opinion it is the best value. I am probably used to the seating position...I know that is a complaint for many...but the seating position in the GM product...well, you probably need to review the seats at the service department as that is where you'll be if you drive as much as I do.

I have a 2021 Colorado LT with the 3.6L V6. I friggin LOVE my truck. It feels comfortable and smooth on road, like a high-end SUV. When you kick it into 4x4, it eats off road challenges for breakfast. The LT also has a 7,000 lb tow capacity (better than ZR2). It was less than $40K and gets almost 30mpg on the highway (65mph on cruise control). For me, it’s the perfect daily driver and family vehicle.

I have a 2019 Z-71 with V6. Great truck without any issues so far, 27K miles. But, I will order the 2023 version as soon as I can. They look slick, even with the only power plant (the 2.7 Turbo). Love your channel.

In my area there was a 2022 Colorado bison brand-new for about 46K otd.. instead I chose to go with the TRD 4X4 off road with a 6-speed and that was about 40K basic 📦 few exterior mods side steps, exhaust tip, blacked out badges, mud flaps, bed lights & all weather floor mats. Manual transmission is extremely reliable & fun to drive, people always complain that it's underpowered I don't kno it's a 🛻💨 it drives totally fine for me. Tows my 2,500lb trailer easily. I don't do a lot of off-roading but the 🦬 looks so 🆒 (on the outside) if I do go off-roading I know it's protected but the interior sucks the Tacoma it just seems a lot better imo. I've already added the TRD front skid 🍽️ with the transmission skid 🍽️ + the catalytic converter 🛡️ to protect it from tweakers... So I'm not far off of a 🦬 anyways. Main reason it's a Toyota vs a Chevy to each their own but common Sense would tell you the Toyota is much more reliable. I did my first oil change at 545 miles, 2nd 🛢️ change at 2,500 miles + replace the manual transmission fluid at 2,500 with amsoil full synthetic. Some people say that's too early but the MTF had metal shavings inside the 🛢️ drain pan when we shined a 🔦 into it! The 🛻💨 did NOT need the 🛢️ change at 2,500 mi but at least I have ✌️ of mind that it's broken in perfectly. Next transfer case, then F&R diffs with amsoil 👍👍🛻💨💯🔥 🛻💨 will last forever if you change those fluids every 30-45K after you do the initial break-in 🛢️ changes motor 🛢️ 4-5K @ VERY MOST clean air filter very important

Being 6’4” , & after owning a 2002 Tacoma TRD 4x4 for 21 years, I agree completely with your assessment of this new Tacoma. I LOVE my Taco, but after 300k miles and a lot of grey hair, I want a new comfortable mid sized 4x4. It saddens me to have to look beyond Tacoma. ps: I do NOT like the Tundra and will not pay 60k+ for a pickup truck.

I’ve driven Colorado z71 for five days. I took it from LA to San Francisco and back down. I went to Yosemite on my way back and tested it on the snowy/icy roads there. Really liked it. Just a perfect size for me. I don’t have to tow a house and those “real” trucks are just too big for me. If I buy a truck I would get one of these.

TRD Off Road owner here. Love my truck but I too do not like the seating position. My wife and I are 41 now. The seating position gets progressively more uncomfortable the longer you drive. It's a very bad seat setup for road trips in our case. But I bought my Tacoma over a Colorado because I wanted Toyota reliability and the Colorado did not have a rear sliding window in 2018. The Tacoma is also awash in cup holders If you buy the automatic.

One thing not mentioned was the availability of the baby Duramax in this current gen Colorado which is fantastic on these trucks and brings the mog’s waaay up. So I have been a lifetime Toyota guy, over the past 25 years running 4 Land Cruisers, an FJ Cruiser, a Tundra and some other stuff. I love the 5th gen 4Runner and we almost grabbed one for my wife this year before they changed it but in the end my wife wants a truck and having a farm in snow country with a 70 mile round trip commute to work it’s helpful having a second truck to grab stuff from town while she is in for work. Hearing the Colorado was likely getting rid of the diesel for next year I rushed out to find a 22 Duramax Z71 crew cab. We had a 16 previously and loved it but with a 3rd kid added 3 car seats didn’t fit. Fast forward 5 years and now the three can fit. We don’t need the ultimate off-road ability as we replaced our last Cruiser with a diesel E Series Sportsmobile for off-road adventures and travel. What we needed was classic truck utility so 7,600lb tow capacity and 1,500lb payload was more important that off-road features. We see mid 30’s mpg all the time with it, yesterday I saw 36.5mpg, driving rural 2 lane roads. Mixed driving is still around 30mpg. That’s with the front spoiler removed and a leveling kit in it. We live this thing. The seating position was a big deal for us too as well as the diesel. I spent a lot of time driving Hiluxes, and the foreign market diesel versions of Colorado in the Southern Hemisphere as well as the foreign market Ranger’s and Nissans. I always appreciated the rugged utility of those things and this Colorado has that feel too though admittedly much more upscale feeling. But I think you hit it on the head that it’s kind of old school but still nice, and I think that gives it a bit if it’s own charm. One if the owners of AEV is a neighbor and he has a crazy car collection and obviously can drive any of the AEV offerings…. His daily? A diesel Bison. Anyway, I think the Tacoma is a great truck and not bashing it but I think this gen Colorado is greatly overlooked. As we move forward with ever more features, screens, gadgets, off-road capabilities…. I think we will look back at the sweet spot of smaller trucks and this current gen of Tacoma and Colorado will probably be it.

Both great trucks. I have a Tacoma Sport which I really love. I don't go off-roading but I do go camping in some (not too) off road spots. I have about thirty thousand on mine (2018) and as I'm newly retired I won't be putting many miles on it so I see myself having this for a long time. The seating definitely is an issue but I don't often have anyone riding back there, so I guess to each his own. I will say though, that after buying many different makes from Dodge to Subaru to Nissan to GM, I have had quality issues with (especially) Dodge and also GM. That alone will make me not buy their products again. Of course, as I said, to each his own.

I've also heard the same comments elsewhere about the seating position in the Tacoma. That being said, I think it's safe to say that the reason why the Tacoma can get a higher price is its record of reliability. The Tacoma is the one you buy if you plan on keeping your truck for 10 years or more. If you're only going to keep your truck for a few years, buy a Chevy.
@paulm64812 жыл бұрын
Want these old yuppie city sleepers don’t get is Taco has port and DI injected engine. Colorado engine direct injected only cause carbon sludge. Price of Chevy cheaper because resale for Taco is incredible. You can not find Taco TrD 4x4s anywhere new.

I have a TRD Pro Tacoma, and am a large gentleman (height & weight). I’ll admit that it is not the most comfortable vehicle for me, but it’s good enough imo. I do not struggle to get in & out, nor does it kill my back. I did have a Colorado LS with cloth interior as a long term rental for a few weeks. This was before I got my Tacoma, but I do not remember it being particularly comfortable either.

I’ll take my TRD Off Road double cab long bed Tacoma over this this ZR2 all day long . It’s a 2022 and it was only $43,000 . And I don’t know why people are so bonkers about the drum brakes on the tried and true Tacoma, if it isn’t broke … don’t fix it . Those drum brakes have PLENTY of stopping power , they’re less prone to dirt and debris inside of the drum and they’ll last 150,000 miles before you gotta replace them . The Toyota resale value is off the charts ! And lastly , life is too short to have an ugly ZR2 truck . Everybody loves tacos 🌮 way more smiles per miles in the Tacoma.
@tomc88542 жыл бұрын
Still considering both of these along with a couple other 4x4’s with better mileage. Not the TRD pro though definitely not worth it! I saw a new TRD sport 4x4 2 door manual for 37,000 . I also found a Chevy dealer discounting Colorado Z71’s down to 33,000 and ZR-2’s to 41,000. And now I see the maverick Tremor is coming out which would be a cheaper option with better mileage. Don’t know if I could deal with the toy size bed though, and I really prefer 2 doors. So …confused.
