I purchased a tactical Reveal XB trail cam and I am very disappointed. Send it in for repair and they sent it back saying that it was not repairable looking at the camera. I decided I had nothing to lose so I decide if I could see if I can get it open well to my surprise when I did find the screws the screw holes were packed full of crap which tells me nobody open the camera without seeing it in for repair.

Hey Mike, sorry to hear you are having issues. There should be a few tweaks you can make to improve your photos/response time. The first thing I would check are your cameras Motion Sensitivity settings. It may be that it’s a bit too sensitive and giving you false triggers. Also, please make sure the angle and location of your trail cam is appropriate for your area. Next is the settings check and send type. For the XB, I go with Instant for settings check and Timely for send type. If those don’t help you out, reach out to Tactacam support and they should be able to help.

The app downloaded today is the updated version of what you showed in the video. Similar though, I still had to find the screen you were actually using. I think the battery life is better, the timely photo transfer is better than waiting for your photos and the biggest reason I prefer the XB over the FLEX is the photos + video option. Can’t beat that in my opinion. I do really appreciate Spypoint’s 100 free photos per month plan. I may consider running it in the off-season and trying to stick to the 100 photos a month. Hey Zac! Thanks so much for subscribing! I appreciate it! The battery life on the XB is pretty solid (those 12 energizer lithiums are pricey though). I did a review on the Tactacam solar panel if you want to check that out. I’ll be running that on one of my XBs this season and I expect it to last a full 4 months without having to change the batteries.

You mentioned the cost of the batteries. I'd suggest you buy solar battery panels. I've been using them on my Coverts for a couple years, they're well worth the money up front compared to how much batteries will cost you. Especially if you leave the cams out year round.

Forgot to add that you need to be sure the connector on the panel is the size needed for the camera. Bought a solar panel for my new Reveal from Rural King and the connector to the camera it too large. Returned it and ordered two panels from Tacticam. They're supposed to be here next week. Not all solar panel companies list their connector size. Be sure you can return the panel if it isn't the correct size connector.

I will start shooting both solar panel videos this weekend and let them run for about a month or so to see how they perform. @@mountainbuck Shouldn't have any power problems with 4 months. I leave my cams with the solar panels out all year round and haven't any problems with power. I prefer the Tacticam ones with the built in batter so the panel just recharges it. Just make sure you have decent access to the sun.

Just watching your video I ordered 2 xb,s. Instructions calls for a 32Gb class 10 U3 SD card anything less than U3 class 10 will only slow down your video/ photos being transferred, also if you use lesser quality batteries most cameras that run on 12volt supply will not function properly when your lesser quality batteries run down below 9volts. Lithium ion batteries run at 12volts until they are done I've got several other cameras that confirm that fact. You'll buy once cry once. Lol

Hey Ben, thanks so much! I really appreciate that! You definitely should have received the video by now. Have you been getting photos from the camera since you’ve requested it? I would try again by long-pressing the image, selecting HD, choosing video and then agreeing to the pop-up window with the payment notification. I’m sure you’ve done all of this, but sometimes people might miss a step. Also, what settings check do you have your XB on? I keep mine on instant and I usually get photos and videos pretty quickly. It may be helpful to reboot your iPhone (if you have one). Tactacam sent an email out recently stating that iPhone users that recently updated their software may have connectivity issues and they should restart their phones. Hope this helps!

Hey Minister RedPill (cool screenname), it does a decent job at night, but it isn't going to produce super clear photos out at longer ranges (I'd say maybe 20-25 yards is max with the IR flash). You can see at about 14:43 of the video some of the night shots (I'd say those deer are maybe 10-12 yards away). However, the cell cam service that goes straight to your phone would be really great for areas with no electricity. Best of luck!

I had a camera from another manufacturer (who shall go unnamed) that shot good pics but had a horribly slow response time. But it did have a great feature in the app - I could pick a time of day, say noon, and the cam would snap a pic every day at noon. I've since replaced that cam with a better one, but I sorely miss the daily pics. Does this camera and app give me that ability?

Hey jimsurgent, thanks for checking out my channel! I've looked through the manual and the app to answer your question. The closest feature I found is the "Check-in Picture". This is from their support website: Check in Picture: This is a “Peace of mind setting”- Camera will take and send a picture at the same time, twice daily (time is randomly determined by the camera). This is to ensure that your camera is on and able to take/send pictures. I found this response from an archery blog: Touch the camera icon then select the camera, then touch the wrench. It will go to settings. Scroll down to send type and select once daily or twice daily. It will then ask for the time you want pics sent. Using the timely setting will send them as they are taken. Be sure to touch on Apply Settings when done. When the box pops up select apply again. I don't have my cameras activated at the moment, so my options to investigate this further are limited. Hope this helps!

On the setup page, it says Other for Capacity. I know devices don't advertise higher sizes but a lot of times higher size cards work provided they are on the correct format it can read. It will format the SD card anyways but have you had any luck with 64/128 GB sized cards?

Hey Clint! That is correct, you use whatever SIM card gets the best service in your hunting location. You aren’t paying Verizon or AT&T and adding to your existing cell phone plan. You setup your account on the reveal website and make payments there. So, it doesn’t matter which cell phone service provider you use for your smart phone.

I was finally able to get a couple videos to go to my gallery but it stopped again 😵‍💫. Have sent a couple help inquiries to Tactacam support but since they have grown so much it's tough to get a response (when I got two of the orig Reveals they would respond by next day, Im sure they are just catching up with all the business they have gained. Hey Ben, thanks for checking out my channel! Yes, you can use your Tactacam as a regular trail camera without the subscription plan. One piece of advice they give you, is to remove the SIM card from the camera before leaving it in the field so the camera isn't constantly searching for a signal and draining your battery.

Hey Melee! Thanks for checking out my channel! This camera has a “no glow” feature so the night time flash isn’t visible. I didn’t notice any light or noise when I walked into my spot in the early morning. I wasn’t super close, however so I’m not 100% sure about the noise. If you take note in my video a little buck is checking out the camera due to the fresh scent and wasn’t scared off.

Hey Wayne! You can’t adjust the trigger speed, but you can adjust the motion sensitivity if you feel like you aren’t getting images. You can also double check to make sure you are using the recommended SD card to get the fastest trigger speed. 👍🏻

I put out my camera and got everything set up, it took four photos and then stopped and now I’m not connected to my camera anymore, any idea why?

I have the Tactacam reveal X and I’m trying to get videos but I’ll get a message saying it doesn’t support videos. Do you know if I can’t get videos with this camera or do I need to get one that does.

Hey Chris thanks for checking out my channel! I’m sorry, but the Gen 1 Reveal X doesn’t have the video request feature from the app. I believe you’d have to pull the SD card to get your videos.

Enjoyed your Tactacam videos and just ordered the XB. I currently use the spypoint primarily because of their 100 free photos per month that allows me to use year round with longer delay times to get more days of photos per month and I have five cameras. I was forced to go with an external pack with the spypoint due to the drain on the AA batteries and use the 12 volt 8 amp hour small UPS type batteries. Before I purchase the solar panel which seems to be the way to go for extended power, can you take a volt meter and tell me the output power from the solar pack on the plug that goes into the camera input jack? I found that the camera jack uses 4.00 mm x 1.7 mm plug that seems to be associated with 5 volt devices. Needless to say I don't want to send 12 volts from my existing external battery pack to the camera IF it is expecting 5 volts and see that magic smoke appear. I have a supply of the 12 volts batteries and really want to use them on the Tactacam XB using the solar input jack until I evaluate the camera in the field and see if it warrants the $65 expense of the solar pack. I am expecting the tip (center) to be positive and have either 5 volts or 12 coming off the solar battery pack. Also will the XB work totally off the solar pack without any batteries at all in the camera. The spypoint does not require the battery pack to be installed in the camera when using the external power jack. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Bart, thanks for checking out my channel! I appreciate the support! I really like the Spypoint 100 free images plan. That is a nice deal for out-of-season monitoring. I actually don't have a volt meter. I don't do a lot of electrical work aside from the basic stuff (swapping out light fixtures, etc.). The Tactacam Reveal External Solar Panel is rated at 12-volts. I would check with Tactacam support if you need additional info in that area. You can reach them at: [e-mail] - As far only using the solar panel, I believe I had a commenter mention that is was possible, but I have never personally tried it without batteries.

i just picked up a reveal solar pack and discovered the plug does not fit on spypoint plugin. the reveal uses a 4.0*1.7*10mm tip and the spypoint uses a 5.5. luckily i kept the reciept to take back

Hey man, I've been looking into getting one of these to keep watch of a house in a remote area by sending videos to me. You've nearly convinced me but I'm left with a couple questions about the app. You say there's multiple levels of subscription but then you have to pay for videos. Does one of the plans just let you send whatever videos you need? Like one of the more expensive plans? If I see a break in I want to be able to tell the cops when it'd happening, not pay 5 bucks and then wait 24 hours. With the app, after you scan the code to pair the camera with your phone, can more than one phone do that? I want me and my partner to both be able to monitor it, not just one of us.

Hey Drewz, thanks for checking out my channel! I don’t believe there is currently a plan where you would get unlimited videos. Photos, yes (Pro plan), but you would still need to pay $5 for every 50 videos you request. Also, you’d still have to wait until the camera checked in before you got the videos. As far as your other question, I would think it would be possible to pair two phones/apps with each camera, but I’m not sure. @@mountainbuck Oh, so it works like, you can download 1-49 fine and when you get to 50 you have to pay, then the counter resets. Am I understanding it correctly?

When you request your first video, it will confirm that you will need to pay $5 for 50 videos. After you confirm, you will have 49 videos remaining on that $5 spend.

Your partner can download the app to his phone and sign in to the app with your email and password to access the photos and videos. You can have as many people as you want to do that. That's what my buddies and I do instead of sending pics to each other.

After owning 3 of these cameras for a year my review of these would be they are JUNK....I had 2 cameras solar panels go dead after 10 months and I replaced them right away...After replacing them I would try to get them to sync back up with my phone for getting the Date & time correct...I tried the reset button half a dozen times to get it to sync back up w these 2 cameras and it finally worked, but then 15 mins later the time & date was incorrect again. I decided all together these Tactacam cameras are JUNK & a waste of money. I'm willing to pay top dollar for the best cellular camera out there, I think I might try Reconyx cell cams.

Hey Billy, sorry to hear you’ve had trouble. The XB used to be my favorite camera. I’ve switched to the Moultrie Mobile Edge Pro this year and think it’s the best camera under $200. Never having used a trail cam kzbin.infoUgkx2sTDdZXomuxedMg_HothfjSXjR3rpPkA before, I was very impressed with the quality of the images and videos. The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.
