Classic illustration of Guardiola's attacking instincts and Conte's tactical brilliance. Spurs play highly effective games against both Man City and Liverpool. That said, City's defensive setup was naive against Son and Kane.

@@juned2001 Comments like these are the reason why it's safe to say that Lloris is underrated. His highs might not be as high as Mendy's for example, but his longevity in having been a top 4 keeper in PL for years on end shouldn't go uncredited. And yes, he has the once in a season stinker like against Wolves but that doesn't invalidate the point.

@Bryan714 Maguire also scored yesterday and I can be damn sure if he doesn't start for ManU, they'll still be good. The assist and the runs matters a lot and in case of spurs it's 90% kane and son. They are not god but the players they play with is just too naive standard in comparison to them.

@Bryan714 I didn't said they are better than them. Dude look at the players ManU have. Pogba, bruno, matic, Mcfred still fine, if u talking midfield. And i dont need to list the forwards, they are just top quality. Bentacurr just came this season, and why'd you compare Romero to Maguire like there's Varane . This isn't our point of topic anyways. Once Carragher and Neville said "When it's 1 vs 1 situation Ederson isn't better than Mendy or Alisson" It's true then, City spend a huge time in possession and face fewer shots on target and that's why Ederson struggle in the match where he faces so many shots.

Another great analysis from our FMS guru. This game will be studied and dissected by all of Man City opponents for the rest of the EPL season. It is a clinic on how to beat Man City who are always gong to be more technical and more skilled than the opposition. So much to stay about this game. First, it may be seem strange to say this but Man City is very predictable on the attack. Rewatch the game and see how fullbacks - for example Kyle Walker - always pinch in centrally so that wide forwards like Foden and Sterling are clearly instructed to provide width. It obvious that this is what the the team was instructed to do. And it works great if (a) your opponents are weak in possession and (b) you can’t spring counters. But not the case with spurs in that Kane was THE focal point of ALL the counters. The Conte plan? On turnover in the Man City half, find Kane centrally, get him the ball ball so he can centrally run the break because City, with its pinched in fullbacks, is just 3 at the back. More evidence if any were needed, that Conte is a brilliant tactician. Of course, it helps to have a gifted player like Harry Kane to play that role in the counterattacking scheme who can receive high, turn, pass and run to make the attack sizzle. At 3-0 or even a 4-0 win would not have been surprising. I think Pep is gong to have to go back to the drawing board after this one. If, say, Liverpool runs this scheme, and Pep doen’t have an answer, it could be an amazing lost season for his group .

@peterchua.ch2106 3 жыл бұрын
It's interesting to see that Liverpool also like to run a high line, leave 3 at the back with 1shielding midfielder, and use 5 or 6 attacking players against the opponents' defence. The interplays are different, but the ways Man City and Liverpool play when they have the ball are becoming more similar over the years. Difference is Man City lack a defender like VVD or a midfielder like Kante, Fabinho or the retired Kompany, to break up the opponent's attack. It's probably a mistake not to play wily Fernandinho in front of the defence. So, City is relying on offence being the best form of defence.

@@peterchua.ch2106 Right there, city's game is about overwhelming the opposition with their front 5 or 6 and playing in square passes to finish.But if they lose the ball with those players still high and you have brilliant forwards you can always punish.lets face it, they haven't been that great this season, they have scraped through several games with some questionable penalties and it would seem like they have been so reliant on penalties even as good as they can be.Minus all the penalties they have got this season? And they were even gonna get away with the penalty yesterday until Kane came through. Truth is they are nt so imperious this season and it will be interesting to see how the remaining games of the season pan out against counter attacking oppositions

Conte countered Pep brilliantly, City's defense wasn't set up properly at all and left acres of space. It's a bit weird because City's defense should be used to snuffing out counter-attacks because that is what 95% of teams do against them. Conte is magic and if Spurs stick with him and back him in the summer (big if) he will take them far.

I agree, my mate is a Utd fan and I always tell him that you have to get City on the counter because they always play three in the back when attacking, so you need a good false 9 or speedy forwards to take advantage of that to score on them. When they played against Chelsea, Lukaku didn’t do any movement off ball to get open and when he did, he wasn’t getting the pass and that’s why Chelsea loss. People ask who is the most important player on Spurs? That answer varies on the style and tactics employed by the manager. In this system, it’s 100% Son. When they play this exact lineup vs City or even when it’s with Lucas or Bergijwn on the opposite wing, Son is the pace that makes the counterattack possible. He can outpace every defender in the PL, and it is in that threat, that Spurs can create chances on the counterattack. First 2 goals for Spurs yesterday vs City show this but it’s been true for quite some time. It’s unfortunate however that Spurs have to constantly keep playing this Counterattacking style even against inferior opponents as it’s probably not a good long term strategy (giving up 4:1 time of possession and shots as they did with wolves and Southampton). They really need to play more possession football vs lesser clubs but their personnel doesn’t allow that to happen because their wide players, including Son are not as effective in attacking set defenses in tighter spaces and their midfielders aren’t skilled enough to control the ball for long stretches of time and play it through to the front 3.

City are made of 11 playmakers, and yes including the goalkeeper. But their defenders are not necessarily good at defending, especially against counter attacks. Every other decent counter attack is a goal. That's why Son and Salah are kryptonites of City. Also Ederson is not a great shot stopper. He is second to none with his feet, but in terms of stopping goals, he is "OK`.

But I don’t get it when ever Man City lost a game it seems every other clubs fans and pundits are all happy and celebrating because Man City lost, so many comments when Man City lost and few comments when City wins. , you will see all the sports headlines discussing Man City lost for the whole weeks. But if Man City win games they hardly talk about it. We Man City fans knows very well shall drop points along the line. But let’s see what we have done since from October we didn’t lose any game, winning games after games. Even top clubs across Europe PSG, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool… Juventus, man United, Atletico, Milan, have all lost games along, why is it more bigger news if Man City lost a game? Man City will bounce back stronger. Kudos to our boys they have fought hard since from October winning games. We just lost to a team which we normally struggle against in our previous meetings, and is a big news all over. This shows that many pundits whisper our win and broadcast our lost.

Amazing game to watch, tense all the way through. After Tottenham's loss to southampton and wolves, it looked like they were out of the champions league race, especially with Liverpool and City coming up away, but this result gives them another chance. I think at this point it is between Arsenal and Tottenham for the fourth spot, since they have a lot of games in hand, and are currently neck and neck, with game between them coming up towards the end of the season. I think, and hope, it'll come down to that game who gets the fourth spot, since what a game it would be. North London derby to decide which team gets in the champions league. Then again, its still all to play for, and with Man U getting back in form and Wolves looking really good right now, anyone from 4th to 8th could end up in the champions league next season. Whatever happens, though, it looks like it is going to be very close and the last games of the season will be very tense. Looking forward to it.

Spurs game plan was easy to predict, it was obvious that Kane was going to be dropping deep and that they would attach from the wide regions. City like to dominate the center and that's an element of there game that they don't really look to change and they were made to pay. They continuously neglect their wide regions in defense, that's why they lost. Guadiola should have seen this coming and should have organized his team better defensively. It was a common regular tactic tht conquered city.....counter attacking....exploit the spaces left behind by cancelo and Laporte.....and the high line played by our defence .... Liverpool did it ...PSG did it and now Spurs .....if Norwich had quality Saturday it widve been a game too bcz they exploited us jus tht they wasn't clinical .....

City couldn't find spaces or more specifically half spaces it was like just cross that damn ball playing with 5 at back hurts City a lot.. Even Switching sides with long ball won't do a lot of good things I really felt like City run out ideas there. it was so predictable game so similar to that champions league final where City couldn't react.

City's pressing structure cost them the match. Allowing tottenham cb's time on the ball was not a good idea. We usually see City having 2 players pressing the opponent's cb's directly thus making them go long way early instead of having one player blocking the passing lane from one cb to the other like how Bernardo was instructed to do in this match against tottenham.

Imo besides the tactics in this game if you see the waves of chances of both teams. Tottenham literally toss a coin and they were so lucky they didn't deserved even a draw. From 1-20 min first half they were great and then absolutely nothing and they scored in the only chance they had after 40 minutes parking the bus and that's all. Football is a crazy unfair game sometimes

Spurs got it right tactically and Kane was excellent and team executed plan brilliantly but also City didn't play well in attack or defence. Spurs bogey factor getting in heads? Pep has to stop picking KDB in big games. His style of hugging the right inside channel and whipping in crosses just isn't effective, especially when they don't have an aerial threat. His crosses were just easily dealt with, giving Spurs easy, free opportunities to counter. Last season Spurs beat City at home when KDB started but in the reverse fixture when KDB didn't start City battered them 3-0.

@@pamoweiberezi5315 One match that cost them the only trophy they needed to win to complete the set. You can't always rely on small moments of quality in football because it isn't sustainable. KDB was having shocking games against Chelsea and Liverpool before the goals just as he did against Chelsea in the UCL final. He just got a goal in each to disguise his poor performances. @@franzreyes6185 I will tell u the reason why Pep Gaudiola manage too beat Chelsea twice this season, that Chelsea team has the capability to beat man city 100 time in a row , if like they continue to play the way they play last season, but the signing of Lukaku bring so much distrust to the team and here are the two thing you need to have when playing against man city , first you need have a pacing winger like Timo / son and a striker like Kai or kane someone who can drop deep not someone like Lukaku who will stand like lamppost up front , if you go back and rewatch Chelsea man city ucl final you will see that Timo winner get a great chance too score 2 goal under 10 minute but he missed them , because when Kai drop deep he drag Dias too midfield that leave man city defense expose and Timo make run and got 2 chance the same way Spur play , kane drop deep and drag Dias and son make run behind city defensive and score the first goal .. if Chelsea want too beat man city , Tuchel should bench Lukaku and play Kai and Timo , I can Bet 1m on Chelsea winning 3 goals too new if the manager play Timo and kia
