The only thing he does well is hit a long pass to the full backs or winger and for him to do this effectively he needs to have 10 years of time on the ball without any bit of pressure. When he get pressed, he becomes scared and give away possession or plays a stupid/risky pass to his teammate. As long as Maguire keeps starting for United, the defence will keep conceding lots of goals

Long story short, Ten Hag is badly in need for a creative midfield in order to make his ideas work, Lisandro is just not enough to push the ball out, and McTominay!? He's just not the type of player you use much in the last third part of the pitch, playing without a classic N°9 needs lot of quick smart moves through half spaces in order to create dangerous chances, the thing wich Bruno and Scott didn't do quite well. Fantastic video. Very well explained. Be interesting to see who ten Hag opts to play in the single pivot today against Brentford. I can't imagine he'll drop Fred straight away, and although he's not defensively great, we'd lose a lot of his dynamism if he were to be replaced with someone like Eriksen. Instead, I'd probably look at putting Eriksen in the 8 role with Bruno, and getting the former to drop deep to help Fred with the distribution of the ball, as Brentford will most likely press high up the pitch, having watched us against Brighton.

What happened in the first match against BHR was the fault of Ten Hag. But also, there was a problem with the squad as well. Ten Hag started with Zero no 9 which made Veltman, Dunk and Webster to stay narrow and made Trossard and March to push high. And UTD's midfield was so dumb in terms of technical ability. Ten Hag used Fred as a deep lying anchor man who made the real problem here. He was dropping so slowly that Lallana and Gross could cover him so easily. And also, Caicedo made it 3 vs 3 in the midfield. Zero no 9 to push back three and less technical midfield to run the build up made this problem. Martinez and Maguire were waiting for the players to drop, midfielders were not even aware of that. De Gea, Fred, Mctomminay is not the type of player for Cruyffian football. And that Maguire wants to cover every ball like Kante which is making the defense so vulnerable with a huge space in the middle. If Man UTD had let's say Verratti, Xavi or Busquets or even Jorginho in that match, they could run every build up alone. Ten Hag needs an anchor man, I want UTD to spend 100m on De Jong, it's not a problem because the problem they're facing on the pitch is more costlier than 100m. Such a bullshit team, doesn’t matter you've Messi, Ronaldo or even Neymar. This team is full of Dumb players for modern football. They need urgent signings in the deeper midfield role.

@@dameionhall6475 Many teams have played with a false nine but not many team succeed with it, teams that succeed with false 9 have been training with it for a while and many team that play with false 9 don’t always play a mildfielder as a false nine, even if Rashford play there he wouldn’t necessarily be an out and out number 9 he will still be a false nine, and if you don’t know how it affects a new tactics that’s just been coached into them in just three weeks then what can I say? Of course mildfield is part of the problem but on many occasions they pass through the first phase and didn’t look as dangerous as it should be and it’s no rocket science that things improve once Ronaldo came in and Brighton don’t press as much as they were doing before cos I every United players stay in their position so thus pin them backwards and that gives Eriksen who was playing as a holding mildfielder a lot of time on the ball. And am very confident after this Erik Ten Hag see everything and would have said to himself he should have play Rashford there from the beginning and start Elanga on the RW.

I have to agree using Eriksen as a false 9 surprised me a lot. Eriksen is at his best as an 8 or a 10, where he is just outside the penalty box (usually from the right) and without pressure he can put the ball on a coin anywhere. But as a forward he won't be able to get the space he needs as often and since he is not a dribbler, very little pressure is needed to steal the ball from him. Bruno has played as a false 9 in the past and done it well (when Ronny is not on the pitch) so I would have expected him to play there. Also, Ten Hag doesn't seem to trust van de Beek enough yet to have him start ahead of McT, which is concerning.

its not tactics anymore, its technical ability of McFred and mentaility of players dropping when making a single mistake.. just snowballs into many more to eventual goals and loss of games.. hence we need to change all the players (except sancho, bruno and may be rashford) who were part of disastrous last season. ETH was at fault cos he choose a Team to loose against Brighton! ETH started well with a good press conference but went too passive with his team selection. That gave the initiative to the opposition cos for this game he had to choose an offensive team, that means with the players available if fit, Varane & Ronaldo had to play this one. All pre season we've been playing offensive football so you wonder why did ETH chose a defensive team. In this game you had to play your best & experience players to build the confidence. The main objective was to play to our strengths. We could have had at least an hour with certain players, then you make certain substitutions to finish out the game, so there's room for improvement! Preferred Team Selection: Against Brighton 4.3.3 - DeGea, Dalot, Varane(capt), Martinez, Malacia, McTominay, Eriksen, Bruno, Sancho, Rashford & Ronaldo

Ten Hag knows we need a press resistant deep lying midfielder which is why we have been chasing FDJ. It could be a very long and hard season if we don’t get the correct players in.

Should Man Utd replace De Gea for a goalkeeper who is better with their feet (maybe Henderson if he is still a utd player after the forest loan)? Because Ten Haag clearly wants to play out from the back and as outlined in the video, utd could have used a ball playing GK to relieve the pressure from the BHA press just like Sanchez did against Utd but De Gea cant do that. Maguire need support when he plays since he often runs around (with or without the ball) like a headless chicken. with that formation, United will have 3 CBs and 2-3 coverage in front of them for defense (either with double pivot or with the full backs inverted). basically an Arteta/Pep tactics (them and ETH had the same "base model" for their tactics after all).
