@@TheGuardian_TM they should. Nashville collects more than enough tax money every year to outfit every officer with knights SR-15s and all the Gucci gear. I don’t go to Nashville often but there are some really rough areas and very few cops for the amount of residents and tourists. I usually fall on the skeptical side of law enforcement but you rarely hear of misconduct from Nashville metro and these cops that responded are top notch. They have restored some of my faith in modern policing.

Honestly… when in an active shooter situation where your hearing “stimulus” (gunshots) quiet is not the goal. Communication and movement is key. In fact us officers are trying to be the target of the shooter in a way. When they target us they have stopped hunting victims. We NEED to become the target and take the fight to them.

Hi John, I'm a Nashville resident and I really thank you for this analysis. I run security for my church here and very often I wear my WPS hoodie. If you could pray for my church I would appreciate it. We have multiple children who attend Covenant School. One of the lead detectives on the case is a friend and member of my church. Just before we had a service Wednesday night for the victims, there was a shooting 6 blocks away from the church that multiple of our members witnessed while trying to go to a church service. We are really hurting here, and I really want to thank WPS for helping me as a security lead at my church think through these things.

The CDC used to have defensive gun uses on their web site but took it down after anti gunners and the Whitehouse pressured them. The study showed there are up to 2 million defensive gun uses in the United States every year. That's law abiding citizens protecting themselves from criminals and mass shootings from becoming victims and saving countless numbers of lives. Not all are guns being fired but using a firearm to hold the criminal until law enforcement arrives.

Those improvements that we'd like to see are more than understandable considering the likelihood that these guys don't work together, plus the need to move to quickly to save lives. One person screaming "let's go!" can make all the difference. I come from the medical side of first responding, and I'm very aware that in medical emergencies, it's easy for group think, indecision, and dispersion of responsibility can take over. People usually don't call 911 usually unless somebody is assigned that specific task by somebody else who's willing to step up and lead. If somebody says "somebody call an ambulance" nobody will. If somebody points and says "hey you, call an ambulance", they will call for one.

They confirmed this when these officers gave a press conference a couple of days after the shooting--the first officer you see (with the rifle) said that he's almost never in that part of town but was driving through, and he's never worked with the other officers before. It was *all in their training,* which clearly was excellent. Cheers to these heroes and the ongoing excellent training they've had. Now, about that manifesto that they STILL haven't released. Because apparently we don't care about the motivations of this sick individual and want to address the core causes, no! Let's just focus on the firearm and pretend those are the sole problem here! Makes me sick 😠

@finngamesknudson1457
@finngamesknudson1457 Жыл бұрын
I believe majority of cops are good, though far too many cannot shoot straight. This is part of what makes Uvalde so appalling. I think biggest problem was that they stopped to think. Running to the threat can be automatically and requires far less courage and determination than starting backup once you’ve started thinking about risks. Solution is to train and game out scenarios to minimize decision making on the fly so everyone can fall back to training instead of focusing on their personal risk.

@@finngamesknudson1457 I've been a law enforcement firearms instructor for years. I've also taught active shooter, tactical medical etc. If you watch the body cam footage from Uvalde. It was a complete mess. You had too many agencies involved and nobody took charge. The great thing about this incident was that it was one agency. The Nashville Metro Police. They regularly train on active shooter response and it obviously showed in the video. I now work as a school resource officer and I have the same issues from surrounding agencies. Everybody has a chief that wants to do cheap stuff and play politics instead of doing what's right for the public. And you are correct, and my experience most police officers are great people. However, they get more caught up in responding to daily complaints, traffic stops etc than they do training for rare critical incidents. I've come to the realization that I can only be responsible for myself and my school. I regularly have meetings with staff and do trainings on how to keep the school safe.

Between China and India alone we’re talking about over 2 Billion people and another 500 million in Europe. Why do none of those countries have Frequent mass shootings and mass school shootings like the U.S. does? It’s good to look for outside ideas on how to keep kids and citizens safe since Americans keep failing with status quo ideas. Texas of all places had 400 police officers rush to a school shooting within minutes and they failed to stop the shooter. Turning cities into Baghdad with armed patrols is illusion of safety.

I like the way you think. I also like the way that you don't overthink. I carry 100% of the time, including in my home. If I have to put myself in harm's way, I would at least like to have a fighting chance. It's a good idea to think about your reaction to an event before it happens. I constantly go through tactical responses in my everyday life. That way, not only do I have a better chance of reacting properly, but I also improve the chances of innocent bystanders and their survival. I operate under a disadvantage right from the start. I'm going to be seventy years old this year and I'm not the man I used to be. But I can be the best man I'm capable of being. I refuse to be a helpless victim. And I refuse to stand around watching innocent people be slaughtered. Thanks for the great video. I appreciate your input on this tragic event. Keep up the good work!

@steveh7108

These officers did very well and they did put others life's ahead of Their Own. But make no mistake, very few officers in this country operate that way or even have that mentality. They are trained incomplete contrary to that concept. They are actually trained that their lives are more important than everyone else's. And that is why so many innocent people are shot by law enforcement. Or people that are only suspected of a misdemeanor and get shot by law enforcement. Don't fool yourself. Most law enforcement is not at all this courageous and dedicated as you see here.

@@steveh7108 Unless you’re a law enforcement officer or are a family member of one, how can you make a statement like that? I know several officers and I know for a fact they are well trained and would sacrifice their lives to protect others. To say there are not many officers like the ones in this instance is not true and irresponsible to say. Officers know what they’re getting into when they take the job. I’m not saying ALL officers, but to say FEW would be WRONG.
@steveh7108
@steveh7108 Жыл бұрын
@@johnanderson3405 so unless you've got family that's law enforcement you cannot judge how they conduct themselves in public ? Is that what you were trying to say ? You are ridiculous! You could go to just about any city in America and then see that the majority of law enforcement act cowardly and put their own safety above everyone else's. You're telling me that my own eyes and ears are lying. Sounds like you are completely biased because you have law enforcement in the family. It is you who do not have a objective opinion. Again go to any city in America in about 7 out of 10 law enforcement don't care about your rights or your safety. You could observe it on the daily basis.

@@steveh7108 I’m basing my opinion on what I see and hear with MY eyes and ears. Any interaction I’ve had with law enforcement officers is what I’m saying. I don’t haven’t gone to 10 different cities and followed around police officers to see how they act. I can’t imagine many people have done that either. I’m assuming you must have a lot of experience with the police. What is ridiculous is someone talking shit that police don’t care about your rights or safety.

One thing that caught my attention. These guys are not from the same agency. They are not aquatinted with each other, and experienced collaborators. They address each other by the type of weapon or even weapon sight to co-ordinate their movements ( “Push LPVO”). Totes badasses. It’s great when a team can train, often relentlessly, together, but when you have a totally ad-hoc team, not to mention that infernal fire alarm, they moved very quickly, effectively and purposefully. Well done.

Minor quibble. It wasn't shown in this edit, but the cop w/ long gun didn't load a rnd into the chamber until after he was slung up and walked around a bit. I would like to have seen him do that before slinging up as a threat could have presented itself much sooner. In fact, later the murderer was firing down from the 2nd floor on newly arriving LEOs outside the school. Overall great job by them!

Nice breakdown. Of course hindsight means there's always room for critique, but the one thing no one can doubt was the constant urgency displayed by these officers. They were focused on eliminating the threat asap from the second they got the call. Donut Operator's theory on the street clothes guys was they were 'jump out boys' as part of a special task force.

Metro Nashville Police didn't let a scary "assault weapon" stop them from immediately going after the active shooter. Uvalde should take some notes and be completely full of shame. MNPD showed us how to do it. Also, the plainclothes officer is a detective. Theyll respond to stuff like this.
