Targeting Bass Around Grass With Topwater | Fall Bass Fishing

Then, to illustrate the point, the guys catch a pile of fish on frogs and other topwater! You don't want to miss this!
Fall fishing is amazing! When bass are schooling and ambushing baitfish, it's one of the most exciting patterns you can experience. Whether you're on a grass fishery that requires weedless baits, or an open water reservoir where traditional topwaters are a better choice, you should take advantage of this bite window and catch some topwater fish.

@@tacticalbassin just won an Ohio Kayak Fishing league tournament throwing nothing but a HH jr in phantom perch. Throwing it in 3-4 feet with submerged grass. Including a 21.75 incher. You got to give it another shot man. At least here in Ohio, I don’t think the fish have seen it much.

@@Rdizil-ox1ye depends on water clarity. A lot of my grass lakes are also pretty clear to mildly stained. Therefore only 2 colors I’ve used so far have been Clear Minnow and Phantom Perch. Phantom Perch has killed it so far this fall

Thank you! Grass dying back has a lot to do with the type of grass. In the North there are some very cold tolerant grasses that don't exist in the South.

Hey Matt & Tim, I got 8 bites yesterday on a bullshad wake amd I hooked exactly ZERO of them. Any tips. I was using the slx 7'3" swimbait rod and braid to mono leader w stock hooks. They were crushing it too, straight t bone.

@tacticalbassin Could you please show me in a video or explain to me on here how to dial in an aldebaran BFS reel. It backlashes every cast even with an 1/8 ounce bait unless I dial it in tight. But then it doesn’t go anywhere. Please give me some tips.

Im using my frogs in the grass it's dieing down. It gets alot of traffic and people using frogs. I was using light line cause I usually pan fish for gills but I lost a 5 pounder in the grass on a frog . I go back the next day i see a big bass dead floating in the same area i think it choaked off the frog or something

Let's hope that was just coincidence. It's pretty rare for them to not shake a lure out once the line goes slack.

Okay my inexperience is showing. Was the frogs that you were throwing initially not top water? At the end of the video you stated you didn't want to throw a frog over open water so you went for a topwater lure. That part confused me.

Yes, the frog was a topwater. But when it comes to fishing in completely open water and trying to call fish up off an 8' bottom, a walking bait that makes more commotion and has Treble hooks hanging, should get more bites and hook more of them.
