Great video dude. You are so informative. I don’t think anyone I can think so that does it better. The details you go to are so important and I’m saying this for your readers. It’s the little things that makes a great fisherman. You explain fishing 🎣 like you are in the middle of a retrieval of a bait. Thanks buddy.

Best bait ever created. I disagree with Fall and Winter being the time, spring is absolutely 🔥. Clear water, and a purple, chartreuse, even white color will get smoked.

Mat, you give the best seminars. Your details are spot on. I’ve fished for 72 yrs., I’m 77 yrs. old very shortly. I have fished tournaments for 45-46 yrs. and have followed top fishermen RClunn, DBrouwer, KGB, and many other through the different eras. You are so dead on it is amazing to me, when I look back in my old tapes,and recordings ( R/R, 8 track, cassette, disc. and sponge) I here those guys saying many of the same thing, but with far less details and reasons why. I listened to several Pro Fishermen @ a B.A.S.S. Tournament standing around after day #1, talking. It was mentioned that KZbinr had talked about a new bait that had just come out. Immediately another PF said what does he know….he’s KZbinr! …I thought about that for a split second, and butted in on the conversation and said that’s a incorrect statement. There are many great fishermen, that haven’t the time due to owning a company, having a large family, I know even ONE that will never fish on the LORDS DAY ( in his words). And I would put him up against any of ya! He fish 4 -5 days a week and in Tournament Lakes and I most every time know body comes close to him. He sold his company and is now training/teaching his grand kids how to really fish with full understanding (60 + yrs exp.) and they are 7-9…get ready to move over. My mouth sometimes when I hear 👂 a stupid statement I have to respond. Mat, obviously you and others fit into my explanation. (Others just don’t want to direct their time and focus on one thing). That is what is required to fish PA’s tournaments and to be just average.

I could watch Matt talk about jerkbaits for hours. I never used to have any success with them. It turns out that I was using poor baits and the wrong action. I bought a few Vision 110s and started using Matt's retrieve. They are some of my favorite lures in the spring and fall now. Thanks Matt!

Try a Provoke as well. Cheaper than Megabass and they caught more double digits last year than any other Jerkbait. The Vision 110 is great though.

Jerk bait fishing has always been my Kryptonite! I made a concerted effort last year to get better at it. Rod, reel, lures, and yes…. Line. I am much better at the technique and don’t run from it as before. I’m actually looking forward to jerk bait fishing this year. I sincerely appreciate all the time and effort Tactical Bassin has put into the videos on jerk bait fishing.

If you are struggling, slow down. Medium Heavy (or moderate), 7ft, 8 to 12lb fluro. Hell even put a cheaper reel on to force you to slow down. Jerkbait fishing is very easy once you learn the pause, I promise.

The Mat colors tend to have a glow on cloudy days though that the GG's and so on don't! I think that glow draws em in. That Table Rock color for switching up to bold can be amazing! I also love the Pearls as well. I have the Jerkbait bug as bad as you Matt. I have over 100 just 110's and +1's. Then add in all the Jr's, X-80's, X-Nanahans, Ito Shiners etc and it's pretty ridiculous! This is where I really "nerd out" as you say...lol.

"It only takes 20 or 30 minutes to dial it in." Excellent point. That sums up bass fishing for me; you know within ½ an hour whether it's gonna happen or not. Not saying you can't win a tournament in the last ½ hour-I HAVE-but, generally speaking, you can gauge bass' activity level in the 1st ½hour.

@shadygraves2 жыл бұрын
The BEST way to eliminate 'line memory' is this: 1) Cut your lure off. 2) Put your boat in drive. 3) Let out all the coiled line behind the boat for ½ a mile or so. 4) Once it has stretched sufficiently, slowly reel it in while applying slight pressure with a leader straightener (you can use a proper fly fisherman's leather leader straightener, a soft, wet cloth, or just your wet fingers). This does several things for you. The warm, wet friction heats, cleans, stretches, and straightens the line, eliminating the memory and the need to respool. This saves you money and saves the environment. It works!

I fish a jerkbait a ton. One huge suggestion I can give a starting JB angler is always hit the slack. Leave alot of slack and hit the bait at the end of the swing. Once you start getting bites you can dial in your system from there. If you can't get bit, you can't learn. Literally bounce the rod off of the bait...hit the slack and go back slack, no pulling at all! Rods are important if you get into this, but I can catch a JB fish on many rods, crisp with some give is best, for bouncing off the bait, and keeping the fish on once hooked. Once again, you can't learn if you can't get bit...get bit first, then worry about them staying pinned the best and so on. My favorite setup is an Orochi xx Jerkbait special with an Aldebaren and 10 lb Seagar Invizex. That is not necessary though, I was just proving my point to a buddy with a 20 yr old Curado and a No name generic rod with an X-80 trick darter the other day. BTW, funny you show that Deadly Black Shad as one of your favorites. If I absolutely need to catch a walleye on a Jerkbait, that Deadly Black Shad is my go to. I use it in cloudy and clear sunny conditions as well.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I changed some dulled up hooks on some of my OneTens and Jrs. I tried the Trapper #6 and #8 standard trebles and I am 100% satisfied. The floatation didn’t change and they hook everything. Someone else may have had a bad experience with them, but I’m just saying they worked very well for me. Need to keep some pliers handy with them. I’ve even put them on some of my cranks. Short shank EWG, standard and x heavy trebles. I ordered about 100 packs of different sizes. I like the dropshot and wacky hook to. I saw that a bad partner destroyed the company and TW has them on sale. CHEAP
