It's interesting listening to Davies, Meola et all on CBS talking about a player needs to be playing on club to get national team minutes and then the conversation turned to Reyna. I think they are assuming that the new coach will have a 'play at club requirement'. It also assumes that our player pool is so deep that we can simply cut Reyna and the USMNT will be fine. Reyna was really strong on the USMNT playing at the 10 and the new coach has gone with a 10. Reyna is fine at Dortmund at the moment. Stay under the radar and see how the next few months play out. It is likely he will be playing elsewhere by January or after the season in May. But things may turn out better than expected in the next few months as well because of the new Dortmund coach. For example, Reyna didn't play in the last Dortmund match, but he was active for it. Regardless, it is likely Gio will be a starter somewhere about a year out from the World Cup 2026. That is one reason why the new coach will not cut Reyna now.

Showing my age here, but for decades the US was synonymous with elite goalkeeping. Howard, Keller, Friedel, Meola…How is there not a freaking pipeline of terrific US goalkeepers playing minutes in the top leagues of Europe? International tournaments are won with defense and dynamic play and leadership from the keeper position. This is by far the USMNT’s most glaring weakness.

Historically keepers just needed to be shot stoppers. The US excelled at developing that type of backstop. Now that keepers are expected to play with their feet and distribute the ball (instead of punting it 80+ yards) we've fallen behind the rest of the world. And the reason for this is the same as why we struggle to develop technically skilled players in the US.... we prioritize size, speed, strength at the youth levels over technical ability and in-game IQ. Good news is that we've improved dramatically since my playing days (70-80's), but we still have a long ways to go.

Great keepers for sure. Typical US keepers though. No feet, good shot stoppers, and on sub par teams that faced a lot of shots. Turner is in a bad spot - but he is exactly that goalkeeper.

Not Poch's style, but id like to see 4-4-3 with a diamond midfield. 4 mids leans on our deepest position group and gives a destroyer to help the center backs, and a 10 to help the attack. Two up top are Pulisic and Balogun, with Gio joining in heavily. Robinson and Dest (when healthy) can run wide for us and add width. Weah would also be great in that system there at RB. I don't mind the wing backs having to run a lot because Adams/Johnny help cover when they get caught too deep and Scally and Weah provide fresh legs off the bench.

The way i see it, Pocchetino has been given 18 months to find his team. And step 1 of that is to see who in the current squad doesnt make the cut. So id expect his first roster to look pretty much exactly the same as what weve been doing for a few years, and from there he'll start rapidly cutting the fat (not a dig at mckennie lol)

He will have to adapt his style of play as its not entirely suited to international tournament football and he doesn’t get to buy any players to fit the system. I think he’ll have a fusion of his more high pressing attacking style with a more pragmatic defensive one playing on the counter. As for 2026 you can’t really say how far the team can get until you know who they’re facing. What if they face Argentina in the last 32 game? No one will expect an upset tbf. If its a favourable draw they could get to the last 16, but don’t expect them to go any further. Copa showed nothing should be taken for granted.

I can not see any scenario where CCV gets a call in. I have a feeling that Walker Zimmerman will be a part of that first CB for Pochettino Also, Pochettino must set the tone early. If you're not playing for your club, you're not getting called in. This means Gio, McKinnie, and Turner can not get called in. That's not to say that they're done with the national team, but they must get their club situation taken care of.

Please stop saying Haji Wright is a wing. He's not a wing. He plays outside forward on paper, and even Herc said he plays as a second striker who makes runs through the middle. With a 10, Pochettino isn't gonna take an out-and-out striker and make him play left wing in the line of 3 in a 4-2-3-1. You can't just ring the roster to always put your boys Balogun & Sargent as the strikers. How many clutch goals does Haji Wright need to score for the US and his club to get some respect from you as a striker? He outplays all of our strikers.
