In this DCS Wolrd tutorial, I demonstrate the Startup, Taxi, and Takeoff of the P-51D Mustang. With the new clouds system, there has never been a better time to get a warbird in DCS. This one is iconic.
Our Dynamic Warbird mission is in progress, come join the group and fly it with us when it's ready.

Great tutorial! A proper warmup is usually required for these birds so you might want to do that before T/O to prevent engine failure.

Great Vid! Just quick reminder that on right side of cockpit on wall there is a small metal plate with engine settings, like a cheat sheet. So you don't have to actually memorise all those numbers, its written on the side

Just got the P51D myself as my first warbird, since I've enjoyed flying the TF-51. Excellent video and I learned something about the engine management. Wondered why my engine would keep breaking after 15 min, lol. Now I know.

Dont forget to switch tanks after flying for a while too unlike the p-47 the p-51 has two main fuel tanks so you’ll want to be checking both tanks (the gauges for this are on the floor) and keep them the same if you dont want to be trimming rudder all the time

I rely on these videos to get me started and trained in the warbirds. Thanks

You are most welcome. I love the warbirds. The P-47 has well overtaken the Spit as my favourite.

Nice! You should pull manifold back before prop though so as to not overload it

You may want to bind , Radiator oil open and radiator oil auto. Then you can control the temps better. If it gets too hot ,open radiator the when the needle is back in the green you just click radiator auto again.

Very nice! I've had the P-51D for a while, but can't say I've actually studied it all that much. Now may be the time!

I will add that pulling back on the stick locks the tailwheel and pushing forward unlocks it

Prop pitch should never come behind your throttle. This causes detonation in the engine and will stuff you right up.

It didn't work for me. The nose pitches up violently as soon as the plane becomes airborne; I'm assuming that you keep the stick level at 100 mph and let the plane takeoff by itself.
@neilharrah7365
@neilharrah7365 3 жыл бұрын
That’s what he did in the video lol he said “releasing back pressure” and centered the stick to let the tail come off the ground. Then you slowly pull back to lift off
@TacticalPascale
@TacticalPascale 3 жыл бұрын
Pull back. Release pressure at 80mph, apply gently back pressure at 120-140 easy peasy.

Dont takeoff with full throttle and make sure you add in 5 notches of right rudder trim. It takes some practice but it gets easier.

Some fake music in the tradition of the very real King of Swing Benny Goodman. I hate when they try too hard with the fake music. Who composed this abomination....
