City were in need of regeneration of players especially in the back line. I still feel that Pep will buy another CB and maybe a LW/LWB next transfer market (or next summer) because they don't really have a reliable depth in those positions. Last season Pep has to endure playing Zabaleta/Sagna/Clichy/Navas/etc, players that don't fit his strategy and tactics simply because he doesn't have the players. That's why he let them all leave and going crazy in the transfer market (although mostly overpaid, but perhaps that is the price that Pep deemed necessary to get those players). We'll see where City will end up this season and the season to come (if he's not sacked)... the season just started, and so far City is playing very good.

Alonso was a more technical player, Casemiro is more physical. Alonso's passing and even defensive positioning was better than Casemiro's, but he lacked the physical attributes to cover as much ground as Casemiro does, as well as 1-on-1 defending against speedy and skillful attackers.

In the match against real sociedad, Ramos set up the first goal which shows his aggressive attacking tendencies. So, Ramos doesn't always stay in his position as shown in this video. Sorry, this might be off topic(not about Casemiro), but can you do player analysis of Sergio Ramos? I feel his attacking abilities add an extra edge to make Madrid a dangerous team. There are defenders who steal goals in corners, but Ramos sometimes runs in the opposition's box like in the match against Sociedad which makes him stand out.

Tuomas Saarinen probably because winning the Champions League plays a huge role in who people think the best in the world is. Especially when Ronaldo scored goals in crucial games.
