What are the sneaky grocery tactics you've spotted them using to try and get you spending more..?

The other sneaky thing which has been picked up in the UK recently is that of "price matching" from one supermarket to another, but when the products are not equivalent. For example, Tesco does a lot of "Aldi/Lidl" price matching, but a consumer watchdog found that, often, the proportions of ingredients or just the overall amounts were less in the 'matched' product.

Sneakiest tactic I spotted once (decades ago): Brownie mix box was emblazoned with NEW!! in LARGE prominent lettering. Same net weight. Same price. On closer inspection, I noticed that underneath the huge NEW was (in tiny print) "directions". Sure enough, when I compared the old and new packaging, there were indeed new directions! With the old mix, you added water and oil. With the "NEW!!" directions, you had to add water, oil, AND two eggs! Yes, they had REMOVED the egg content from the mix, kept the price the same, and had the gall to tout this as being NEW!!

A recent tactic used by a large dairy company is to start adding water to the product. You have to read the label to figure it out, and most people just don't. Problem is, it doesn't behave properly when using it in recipes, so it really makes the product worthless.

80% of my shopping is done in a butcher's, Rib eye steaks, egg, cheese, bacon, lamb, and pork and tallow or beef fat. I make my own sourdough, I dislike supermarkets they contain 97% nutritionally dead foods. Even there fresh veg and fruits are from the other side of the World, and so, dead food.

Hold on, even if apples produced in your own country, in the summer you are having last year's produce. The same probably for potatoes before the harvest time. Beware LOL. I'll take a fresh pineapple from elsewhere any time over yellow and greasy apple that has an intensive scent. It is almost dry inside.
