Llama is always ready to take it further down the rabbit hole. Another informative and brilliant video. KZbinrs should take a page out of your book when it comes to making a channel. Every video you do has a point and is done purposefully. Most videos I skip through loads of crap to watch 15-30 seconds of what I clicked on it for.

What solved the issue for me is the following: I unscrewed the Torx screws on the drive side (those that hold the housing together) one by one, put some silicone spray on them and in the hole, and tightened them again. The annoying sound is completely gone now, in my case it apparently was coming from the plastic housing. Our Neo 2 is being heavily used by two riders so I'm not surprised it needed some love by now.

Yep that looks about correct what you did Shane. For me, it turned out to be an internal wire rubbing on a plastic pillar inside the main drive case. What I did was remove the large black plastic panel from the drive side and then applied a small amount of grease to the cable and plastic pillar. Problem solved. No need to remove the metal drum but getting the plastic case off and on is tricky.

I agree with some of the other reactions about (un)screwing being the solution. I tightened the screws and added some WD-40. That solved it for me

I know that this video is old, but I recently had a replacement Neo 2T and it started squeaking so I painstakingly remove and lube every screw on this trainer and made sure its hand tight only and I noticed that a few screws are so tight that its creaking while I was removing the screw. So, I guess unscrewing each screw and lubing each screw hole did the trick for me.

I had this problem on my brand new Neo2T. I solved it by loosening the torx bolts where I could locate creaking, particularly the bolts nearest the front hinge (below the vents).

I've had an original Neo for nearly 2 years now, and lots of hours of use in the house (two avid riders) and I've also had a creak but resolved it by ensuring that the skewers where done up pretty tightly. Only thing that concerns me long term is the sweat and corrosion! I've some rust spots on the hinges for example. I do wipe down with baby wipes regularly to try and remove the salt.

@@1984rbarker Didn't had to repeat this. But I figured out (a lot later) that there was a third party free hub mounted to the trainer that didn't fit properly and was also causing creaking noises (even worse). Replaced it with an original one from Tacx. Since then my trainer works fine.

I don't think the lube did it I think it was taking it apart and resetting things that did the job unless it was the out side joints you lubed. Cassettes will make a noise just like that if they are not quite tight. Always good to see your videos. I plan to get a Neo.

About half way through, I thought to myself "Why am I watching this? I don't have a Neo". But by then I was sucked in and wanted to see how you solved it. So, I watched the rest. Be interesting to see how long the wax lasts. Is there any heat build up that could cause problems with the wax?

Just noticed your video as I was searching for a strange sound that my Neo recently developed (1y 7months old, 2nd unit already). The sound described in your video is exactly the reason why I returned my first unit after 4 months (april 2017). Tacx claimed they were unfamiliar with this sound and it must have been something with the plastic being wrongly installed in the factory. I got a new one and it hasn't had that problem again. /ut as said, now I've got another problem, but it's not this sound nor the cliking sound. I do have metal shaving all over the place since a few weeks, haven't been able to figure out where that comes from...

Very topical Shane! I was just on my Neo and thinking about that creak and how to get rid of it. For some reason the creak seems to go away after i’ve been on it for a while. Perhaps heat changes whatever is squeaking? Not sure i’m brave enough to open it up and put dry lube inside thought!

I logged 4,700km using my Tacx Neo Smart Trainer almost exclusively on Zwift so far but fortunately for me I'm yet to come across this issue. May be it's a matter of power applied as well. I'm an old man so I can barely scratch 900watts at most and I rarely sprint. Lama on the other hand regularly hits +1,200watts. That's a lot of wobbling for the machine.

Sry Shane, I like your but this one is, let me say not very 'mechanic'. Lubing everything you see isnt the best way to take care of a problem. Yes grease and lube is good, but on the flywheel/vent-wheel and the magnets you wont have any contact points, so you wont need any grease. I think you got it at 4:03min. But I think it would be better not to spray the lube in, then better using a brush, or maybe a cotton stick to apply the lube. Because without removing the plastic housing you are not able to see if you lube hits any electronical parts.

heyhey shane, you are doing great job! no worries, just wanted to mention that spraying lube all over can/will solve this problem, but also affect new. And also applying lube to parts where theres no lube needed will result in dirty parts. Lube, even dry lube can pull up dirt like grease, and so on the long run it can result in interessting problems ;) Greetings from Germany my friend!

Well, watch D C Rainmaker's interview with the CEO of Wahoo where he candidly admits that they have produced thousands of units which can totally fried by a minor discharge of static electricity (i.e. walking across a carpet and touching it or GET THIS "taking it out of the original styrofoam packing box and plastic bag") . Don't worry though - they will replace your $1200 device with another one which may or may not have exactly the same problem. Of course, they will cheerfully exchange that one for another one which may or may not have the same problem and that one and that one ...........
