"Just Started Learning" had a twenty-year gestation before it was finally completed in 2005. Its initial ideas were conceived in January 1985 with a tune Tad and I had both worked on called "Islands in the Sky."
Tad reworked the song in mid-'92 in San Francisco and then again towards the end of that year. He recorded it on his home 4-track cassette player with two vocals and two guitars with a drum machine underneath one of them. The bridge was the only section salvaged from "Islands."
In the Spring of 2003 I transferred the four tracks into the computer and spent the next two years overdubbing and mixing harmony vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, basses, synthesizer, and percussion. Mastered by Ted Spencer in the Fall of 2005, it led off our CD "Red Horizon," released in March 2006.
Tad then put together the song video in March/April 2023. I added the introduction and bridge clips. The space visuals come from NASA's James Webb telescope.; the intro is a sped-up section from a YT video that can be seen here:
• From Ground Level to S...
This is our twelfth video that spans decades of our music-making. More to come.

If I were British, I would have to say I was gobsmacked by how good this all sounds. It's going to be playing in my head all day today -- totally beyond my control.

I believe that “gobsmacked” is an Irish term. There are many commonly used in the UK, and English everywhere.
