I watch every video once, but listen to them numerous times as chef John's voice is so soothing and if I put the volume just below where I can make everything out, I'm asleep in a few minutes flat.
@goodcitizen37802 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent idea. In a playlist, at that volume, even if it took a while (insomniac) the musical intro would make a spectacular dream inducing segue, an interlude to help anchor the luscious feeling of drifting, knowingly and with careful and gentle eagerness, off to sleep as you would on your mother's lap. Excellent idea. Thank you.

Oh yum😋 this is gonna be so good! I always have a cast iron pan, eggs, sausage and I love poached eggs! I like Swiss Chard or beet greens over kale so for people that aren't big kale or spinach fans try Chard or beet greens (just make sure to wash beet green tops since they can be sandy). I wouldn't bother blanching Swiss Chard or beet greens you can saute those in the sausage oil and they wilt in like one minute! Oh mushrooms would be great added to this dish!

Because I'm the Marla of my Maples, I omitted the maple from the recipe itself in favor of drizzling maple syrup over the finished product. I put about a table spoon of brown sugar in the batter instead.

I wonder how that would taste with a traditional Southern sausage? (You know, like a Jimmy Dean, or Southern Pride?) AND maybe instead of Kale, use Mustard Greens? And if you used molasses or pure cane syrup ? SO MANY WAYS to prepare this dish!! Thank you Chef John!!

Chef John I love your recipes and more importantly my husband loves them. He is doing all the cooking at the moment because of *life* and while he has become an amazing cook in most ways he refuses to BROWN food. I have tried to explain the importance of caramelization and/or the Maillard reaction to him but he thinks that anything more than a slight light brown/tan on food is “burning” it. Can you PLEASE do an episode on the importance of caramelization and the Maillard reaction in cooking? Signed Sad because of lack of depth of flavor in otherwise amazing food in Fl.

As someone who had toad in the hole a fair few times as a cheap and filling meal my mum would whip up for us, the title intrigued me! Looks amazing and definitely gonna give this a go! Edit - as a Yorkshire budding aficionado, I have a couple of things that hurt to see. Maple syrup is an odd ingredient. I understand why you put it in as you explained it well but hmm… Also, if you do want your toad in the hole to puff up, you must have a hot oven and you actually put your baking dishes in the hot oven and then pour your batter in. Really can’t understand how starting with a cold oven will make your batter rise. That being said, you’re right about whisking. Half the reason the batter rises is because of all the air that’s whisked in so you must really beat your batter to get lots of air incorporated. And people in southern England insist on Yorkshire pudding batter is to be put in the fridge to rest. This is untrue, it simply doesn’t need to rest and like Chef John you can use it as soon as it’s all incorporated.

A friend of mine taught me a very simpler version of this, heat a little butter in frying pan, cut a hole in bread and put in frying pan and add an egg. Once bread is toasted flip egg and toast cut out and slide onto plate once egg is done to your liking. My favorite bread to use is potato bread or brioche. Can't wait to try your amped up version. 😋😋😋😋😋
