Sensei Simon, I am a green belt karate student who started pretty recently, I have been trying to increase my flexibility for a while now, and always strive to do so, but there is a horrible pain in my knees whenever I try to do my splits. I feel like my knees have become weak or injured because my balance when kicking is terrible and I am bouncing all over the place when kicking. What are some ways I can strengthen my knees, so i do not feel pain on my knees when stretching? Its not sharp, but the knee pain is more agonizing than the pain of the muscles.

there could be a lot of reasons your knees hurt when you stretch and kick. anything from incorrect form to a muscle or joint condition. I don't think I can diagnose and help you here. I recomend talking to a physical therapist.
