What i find very interesting is none of the masters shown on this video are any of Master Yi's orginal students, wonder what became of them? I met Master Yi in 1982 and started training with him in the park before he had his first school - i was his 8th American student trained with him from 82 to 86 when i moved back to San Antonio ( family emergency) left as a red belt. Soon met a man who introduced me to European martial arts train with him for 30 yrs before he died. He awarded me a Professors rank in 2013. Is Master Yi still living in Austin or did he move back to Korea ( it was his plan to return to Korea when i knew him. (I dont use my real last name on my You Tube account.) But he should know who was his orginal 8th American student.

Not trying to be rude why did you spend your time on martial arts which aren't practical IRL you could have learned Muay Thai or Boxing or BJJ or Judo or Wrestling or Krav Maga or Letwei which are much more practical IRL.
@mdanam2 жыл бұрын
@@alfred4407 because when I began it was 1979 and none of those other things were available (other than boxing). And my comment was meant in a purely positive waiy. Why did you ask me such a question? The way you phrased it says a lot more about you than it does about me. And in all those years I have trained with other practitioners from a great variety of martial arts. (And where did I say that's all I trained in?) I was around when Bruce Lee first popularized the radical idea of cross training. And I have been able to adapt everything I learned to become a very "practical" martial artist. IRL. And if you watch the video the young lady was training in a very traditional karate style from what I saw. I commented because I saw an impressive young lady do something that most people never will.

Hi Kize! I'm a Karate Blue Belt and i can say that with your Tukong experience you also have learned even parts of other martial arts aswell, of course Tukong shares similarities with Taekwondo etc, i find interesting that Tukong and Karate have similar punches like the way you put your other hand next your waist, and many kicks are similar also with some blocks, the weapons in Tukong are also similar to Kobudo like the Nunchuks and the staff or the Bo in Kobudo

Most _"traditional"_ Korean martial arts have their origins in the Japanese occupation. *Tang Soo Do* for example is essentially Shotokan Karate with Korea's spectacular kicks added. The Nippon overlords forbade the practice of actual historical Korean styles and many died out, sadly. Tukong Moosul only came into being in 1945 just after the occupation ended. There's some KZbin videos on *Taekkyeon* which is a much older art.

Personally, I prefer the southern Chinese and Okinawan versions of the martial arts...but the most important thing is probably that you enjoy whatever it is that you do. This is a neatly put together video of a student in a new dojang & kwan learning the curriculum. Impressive! Well earned Kize. I hope you make the winners choice & train for life. Yes, very rare 2b double promoted but more so from white belt. Truly unheard of. I double promoted kup/kyu ranks only 1 time in my in my 3 decades of teaching. They were intermedi8 ranks. The martial arts are unlike sports where many dabble in them, come & go & not take training seriously. To any w/this thought process. If you were in a confrontation you would take th@ moment seriously. Do so with training & never quit. 2b a victim is NEVER acceptable & we never know the moment we may need to help another, defend another or ourselves. You need 2b empowered with the confidence, knowledge & physical skill th@ feat would demand. Until the world becomes nicer, train seriously train often train hard like this lady. They're "arts" for a reason. Many Americans do not have the discipline that is instilled as is in the Orient. The martial arts are the smartest form of fitness to do since you learn coordination, kinesiology, self control, self discipline, physical fitness all while learning to defend yourself. It's an unbeatable package of life skills. I also believe in the adage th@ a black belt earner is a white belt who never quit. To take it further, a master & grand master & gr8 grand master is the black belt earner who new that rank wasn't the end of training but merely the beginning! I've been blessed to train w/many celebrity martial artists, masters & grand masters as well as Dojunim Han Jae Ji who compiled the Hap Ki Do system. Having earned Dan ranking in Wol Ge Kwan Hap Ki Do, Tang Soo Do, Ko Budo, Shuri Ryu Karate & Master's in Sin Moo Hap Ki Do coupled w/Filipino Martial Arts, Wing Chun, Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Ninjitsu, Feng Shui, American Kick Boxing & Muay Thai has been a joyous experience. It's lead to the creation of my own Hap Ki Do kwan, Hyeon Dae & street smart grappling system, Shure Tai Jitsu. We see the strife, confusion & evils spreading in society. I believe the more people we have accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior & develop a relationship w/Him along w/more Dan ranked martial artists we'll have a society people want to have flourish & can feel comfortable & safe in. OSU!

However, currently, I am 16 years old, and my family's financial situation does not allow me to do so. Additionally, I am occupied with studies. Nevertheless, I am determined that I will fulfill all my aspirations soon, and I vow to put my best effort into it.화이팅 🔥🔥🔥

If you're training a martial art at a dojo that has little to no sparring, get the hell out of there. If you want to learn to defend yourself properly, you need to be pressure tested. All of this open air stuff will just make you over confident. A real opponent isn't going to strike once then stop coming at you so you can use a 'move' on them. Full body-low/no face attack sparring is going to actually help you if a scary situation actually happens. In 30 days it looks like they barely had you even touch another person, let alone actually try to fight. I hate to see people getting into martial arts without ever actually sparring for years at a time, then thinking they can actually protect themselves.

Great point. However, I’ve seen plenty of people with absolutely no training think they can actually protect themselves.

@@MrGhostface85yeah it's so crazy. I remember my first time sparring dutch kickboxing, I was humbled so fast. Most ppl like that drop out. Only like 10 months in now do I feel like I am somewhat ok at fighting, but still need ALOT of work. It's funny because ppl come to our gym saying they wanna have a fight in a couple months lmao 🤣🤣🤣
@MrGhostface85 Жыл бұрын
@@Alxei23456 Dutch kickboxing is a legit striking art and 10 months will make you feel like you’re in the matrix against the average person. In my BJJ gym, we come across a couple of cocky guys every now & then and they find out real quick that they overestimated their abilities. We make sure they roll with the 16-year old scrawny blue belt that taps them 2-3 times in a roll to have them questioning themselves.

As a black belt martial artist I was ready to be offended, mis-reading that you did a black belt test in 30 days. In the style I practice (Eskrima-Kali-Arnis) we usually do 3 months of training to Yellow belt, then 6 months to Green, 1 year to Red... However, 30 days of training is appropriate for 1st coloured belts, as long as you train thoughtfully, diligently & intensely. Good job!

You can't really call or claim something "traditional" if the founder is still alive or only recently passed. Traditional has to go back countless decades or centuries. Also, except for Taekkyon, there is no such thing as a "traditional" Korean martial art. Every modern Korean art except for the latter only goes back to 1944 and after and is based on Japanese systems. Tang Soo Do was founded in 1944 by Won Kuk Lee who was a student of Shotokan karate. Kong Soo Do was Koreanized Shudokan karate. Kumdo comes from Kendo. Hapkido comes from Daito-ryu Aikijutsu. Taekwondo (founded circa 1956/57, not 2000 years ago) is based on Tang Soo Do and Kong Soo Do. Hwarang-do and Kuk Sool Won have roots in Hapkido, thus Daito-ryu ancestry. Did the Koreans add some things of their own? Yes. But those Japanese roots are still in there. During the Japanese occupation on the Korean peninsula the Korean arts were outlawed. However, they were allowed to train in Japanese systems. To me this looks like a mix of Hapkido and Taekwondo with some Okinawan Matayoshi Kobudo (weapons) thrown in. I find it hard to believe that it's a martial art that _"that had no specific name"_ and goes back 1200 years. Its like TSD and TKD claiming to be 2000 years old when we now know it was created by Korean masters who had trained in Japan during the 1930s and 40s. For the record I'm not saying that neither the people who practice this system or the art itself aren't legit. It's just that history-wise I'd be cautious about believing it at face value based on what we now know about the history of modern Korean arts and especially when there's only one source. It's a well known fact that many Koreans left South Korea as 2nd or 3rd Dan and once their plane landed in the west were 6th Dan or above. Not saying the grandmaster of this art did it, just that it did with others. I say that as someone with over 3 decades of experience in both Korean martial arts and jiu-jitsu. I grew up hearing about my arts' histories which were later proven to be untrue. By the way, it's nunchaku not nunchucks. Also the belt system (and uniform) was created by judo in the 1880s. It's not centuries old and each belt doesn't have any philosophical meaning.

@Lucas Alves Karate is actually a Chinese Martial arts tracing back to White Crane Kung Fu, after the war they were trying to push the Japanese identity and to do that karate the name was born. There was no uniform if you look back to the original masters of karate they wore white tshirts and black pants or old Chinese clothes. The time where the founder of Shotokan brought over the system to Japan he was asked to make it more Japanese and that is where he met Kano the founder of Judo and he suggested they started using the karate Gi which is a lighter version of the Judo Gi. The best system was also adopted from the Judo system. So anyone claiming there is a spiritual meaning to these ranks is full of it. Which is also why karate is really called karate do and judo is called ju do. Originally judo is just several forms of jujutsu merged together to make Kano jujutsu but being after war times they wanted to make martial arts less "martial" or war like so the term "do" was used instead. Jutsu means skill, do means philsophy. Other words you may be familiar with is kendo sword philosophy as opposed to kenjutsu. "Gichin Funakoshi (1868-1957), founder of Shotokan style and widely recognized as the father of modern karate, in an effort to make karate more accepted by the Japanese people and further spread the art in mainland Japan, decided to adopt the belt and ranking system from Judo."

12:08 I love this! Thank you for making this video. Since I moved away from my martial arts school that I used to go to this is the one school I have actually found this exciting. All the weapons work I love how they do this. And the rolls. Just everything about it. I still hope that my old school will somehow continue to let me train to get my black sash but I would love to be a student here.

I think what you're doing is awesome, and empowering yourself with an additional martial art is a tool that will follow you forever. I've been at it 9 years now, been a black belt for the last 3 years, BUT I wouldn't have allowed you to test after 30 days. I get it, you're doing this for your channel, and kudos to you, I wish your channel the best of luck. The reason being, 30 days is not enough to have the basics (stances, strikes, blocks, etc.) of the system ingrained into you; the basics of any system take time to get. Don't get me wrong, you having a good martial arts background helps a lot but you need to ask yourself, are you doing yourself a disservice for testing so fast? I like the fact you dedicated yourself going up to two times a day, it shows you weren't doing this just for brownie points. I also like the fact that you videoed yourself making mistakes and wasn't ashamed or embarrassed about showing those mistakes; you just kept going and it shows dedication. Your parents raised you well, and I think you will go far in life.

@Kize Bae, I’m a karate black belt 2nd dan in shotokan karate in the United Kingdom, I’ve just watched your training and testing for your martial art, I know you have trained in Taekwondo and put many hours practicing for your grading, you were confident, respectful, demonstrating powerful blocks, devastating strikes, punches and kicks, the fluidity of your kata was exceptional ! as a Sensei I would easily double grade you on this occasion, I’ve seen your other videos particularly learning to play drums, which is one of my hobbies, I would sincerely urge you to continue training in martial arts you have a gift a hidden talent, it would be a shame not to share with other girls, you would be at my dojo a black belt and Sensei with in 4 years, and congratulations on passing your testing/ grading, I am Sensei Kate from England oss

How do you compare this with jiu jitsu? Also out of all the skills you've tried, are you sticking with any, or have you found any passions?
