Hi Ginger, I learned traditional ITF from my master 2 years ago. ITF is like my life. But after my master went back to his country, I stopped training. Your taekwondo techniques look very much like what my master taught me. I am so glad to watch your video because that reminds me of my master. And I can learn ITF again! Thank you for those awesome videos!!!

No problem :) I know about both methods as i am never narrow minded. It does have advantages for reach, wrapping around, etc but the way i look at it is if you were to sit down and heel the floor a lot more pressure is put into the foot and ankle joint when pointing the foot forwards. When you flex your foot everything is tighter and stronger and when you hit the floor there is way less pressure.

If you continue watching (at about 5mins in) i do explain if you want increased power and inflict a higher amount of damage then you make a bigger motion. The part you are commenting on, i am talking about light/semi contact which is about speed so you make it short because it's faster. Hope you understand that i can't just explain one version, that would be narrow minded of me. Thank you :)

Awesome videos!!! I've been teaching TKD for about six years now and yours are about the most concise and simple methods of doing these complicated maneuvers I've seen. They don't just show me a better way to perform the movements, i.e. physics, etc., but they show me a better way to teach the movements than before. Thank you!

Ok man, I know you read a lot of comments saying thanks and probably you get tired of responding to them so you don't have to respond to this but I really mean it. I'm a green belt so far and I receive praises from my master often about how quick I dominate new kicks being taught to me. As I said on my previous comment, this kick was the only one giving me problems, it was like I couldn't put any power behind it. But after watching your video, I discovered what I was doing wrong or rather what I was not doing and it was exactly what I needed to put more power behind this kick. I trained yesterday and told my master I wanted to work on my hook kick and he was very impressed with my progress and I told him about your channel. He is not a guy that uses the computer a lot but he said he definitely was going to check out your channel to see your vids and maybe recommend it to the other students (I did that already). All this long post was just to say thank you, you rock.

In my opinion it's best to put your hand on a wall and practice standing so you train the base leg as well as the motion of the kick. Sitting down is still good for understanding the motion of the kick and to see where you are going wrong. Really appreciate you saying that. Thank you and good luck :)

First I want to say how impressed I am on the fact that you actually get back to people and do it very fast. I normally don't get responses. I do have another question, but with the spinning version. I'm 40 yrs old and took a big fall trying to the spinning hook. Not sure what I did wrong or if it's my lack of flexibility, but I was wondering how when spinning for any kick, do you not favor the heal. Seems hard for me to not be on my heal when I have to lift my leg on a spin. Thanks.

As a kyuokusin guy, I reckon this kick leaves you wide open to leg kicks because of the bladed stance, lacking in power and it takes a crazy amount of t i me t ok master. But I love it. Why? Because from the targets point of view, everything is backwards. It comes from the opposite side to get a front round kick and the 'hook" means it is not limited by the extension of the knee - it can get in behind an attempted block. And because so few fighters can do it, it has great surprise value. Great tutorial and technique, well done

Well if it doesn't work for you, don't use it but never disregard it as it is an extra kick in your arsenal. I find i catch opponents a lot with this kick as it is deceptive. If it is used off the lead leg and doubled up from a side kick it is quite effective. In the Olympics they have been using the lead leg a lot more and i'm sure you will see them start to hook kick from the side kick or faint and go into it. This is my opinion though of course and you are entitled to your own :)

Also, if you are hitting a target or boards there is less surface area so it digs in and causes more damage if you are accurate. Neither is wrong, it's just a matter of opinion. It's only wrong when you don't hit with the heel or flat of the foot for reach. Hope that helps my friend :) I use both. Flexed for destruction and pointed for reach as i mention in the video. Do you have any other questions about it?

I remember the actor Jerry Trinble who was a taekwondo and kickboxing practitioner that still holds the world record of 118 mph the fast time doing the `hook-kick'. With a lot of leg training, stretching, getting the body strong and most of all be very patient when executing it. I believe it can be a lot more power to the hook kick and the jump hook kick. I am a practitioner in Southern style Chinese boxing Kung fu as well as a scholar of different martial arts practices. I notice there has to be a strong stands when being able to get a lot of speed and power when performing the hook kick which takes a lot of time with good training. Thanks for the upload GingerNinjaTrickster. I can not wait to see more of your awesome videos. One day when my martial arts be at perfection I plan to do some videos of the skills that I know and do a demo like you did. Keep up the good work GNT. Thumbs Up at you man.

Sorry I missed your message until now. I will be studying tutorials closely. They are great. I did find out that I won't be kicking for a while. Chiropractor thinks I may have torn something in the hip area. Not good. But I will forge ahead. I sit for a good 12 a day at a computer and have done this for years, so my number one priority should be finding ways to get my flexibility back like when I was younger. Any video tips on that would be great. Start slow.
