Great stuff, man! "The more balls you have, the easier it's going to be"! LOL! I came here for ideas to explain piviting to others, since I don't know how I do it :) Nonetheless, I tend to disagree with shoulder, knee and foot being on the same line when kicking! If you start from the chamber position and just superimpose the kick (full extension of the leg) you'll realize that your leg makes a small angle with your shoulder-hip line. That means you are kicking through the target, which is a good news! Your thoughts are welcome!

Hi Simon. Love the tutorials. How would you build this into 'round kick' workout? I'm guessing something like light warm-up, some dynamic stretches, then kick specific stuff (in this tutorial), some weights / resistance, and finally some stretches??? Would love to hear your views on workouts for this and other kicks as well.

Thank You so much .. you brought some technics I've never heard of . But there is one little problem... when I do the Round kick I feel some real pain in my hips .. it's like bones conflictiong hhh ... maybe i don't have the right body to do it !!
@SimonScher
@SimonScher 8 жыл бұрын
+Mahmoud Assyass It is not a matter of your body fitting the round kick, it is adjusting the kick to fit to your body, like cloths or shoes. Do the round kick on the bar like I show in the tutorial. Do it slowly and feel exactly where your bones are rubbing together. Then make small adjustments like lowering the leg a bit, or rotating your hips a little bit more or less, or letting your whole body turn as opposed to just you hip. Find a path that doesn't hurt your bones and drill it slowly until it becomes your natural round kick path, then when you do it fast the pain will not be there. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the videos! How would you perform a left and then right dollyo-chagi with the supporting foot turned that much? How do you get back into original position quickly after your kicking leg is extended?
@SimonScher
@SimonScher 6 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I personally would not want to do that as making that transition even with less pivot would put me full facing and very vulnerable. I have never understood why that technique combo is so popular. I would suggest doing a Hook kick With the same leg as you did the round kick with for the same effect but faster and more secure. Check out my “Brest sparring combos vid” If you really want to throw a fast round kick off the standing leg you can pivot a little less and sacrifice power for speed. It is a choice a fighter must make. My intention in the vid is to teach the full range of motion. You can always do less then you practice but not more. So it makes sense to get good at the full range before practicing less in my opinion. Does that answe your question?

Thanks for your quick and extensive feedback. Good point, and I guess it could be a matter of style (I'm WTF player), and while a WTF player would rather go for a couple of extra points after one successful technique an ITF guy would make sure they wouldn't get hit. I've been watching pretty much all of your videos, but will check the sparring combos vid again. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and for making these great videos!

Hi Simon. I'm very new to martial arts - only two months in! - with no formal instruction due to this lovely plague. Currently I lack the flexibility in my hips to perform a pivoted roundhouse kick. Of course I'm stretching consistantly. What should I do in the mean time? Should I practice with less of a pivot?
@SimonScher
@SimonScher 4 жыл бұрын
pivoting has nothing to do with flexibility. that would be the height of your kick. your whole body should rotate when pivoting, not your femer rotating in the socket. let the pivot turn your body and hips, that is where the power comes from.

When i pivot my foot all the way i feel pain in my hips or knees often , why ??
@SimonScher
@SimonScher 7 жыл бұрын
I would say that you are probably fighting the pivot. It is designed to turn your hips over and swivel your body. If you try to keep your body from swiveling while pivoting you put a lot of pressure on your knee and or ankle. This can cause injury.

Sorry because i've another problem which is annoying and i can't fix it. When i try to do my left round kick high my knee is directed a little bit to the floor and when i train using a heavy bag or different target i kick with bad area of my foot and also i cant get speed using high kicks :( i think that i turn my hips to much over but im not sure. I hope that you will understand what i mean because my english unfortunately isn't perfect :D . I really appreciate your help because i wanna develop my round kicks to perfection ^.^.
@SimonScher
@SimonScher 7 жыл бұрын
I am not sure I fully understand. You might be over pivoting, or over turning your hip. Or you just might lack hip flexibility that can be helped with stretching your hip rotators. Without seeing the kick I don't think I can give you more detailed help than that.

Aren't I supposed bring my knee up to the target area and then last minute turn my leg and kick. But I still can't seem to do the round kick properly.
@SimonScher
@SimonScher 9 жыл бұрын
Aaryan Shenoy You can bring the leg straight up and pivot as you extend, or you can swing the leg around in an arc pivoting as you turn. It depends on how much time you have, how hard you want the kick to hit, and how heavy you are. For the kick on the ball I was prepivoted to demonstrate the proper line of the kick. The chamber is the leg being bent with the foot towards the butt. Then you extend and then you rechamber back to the bent position. Drill on the wall alot, get the hip forward and the knee back with the foot already pivoted. then put less weight on the wall and less and less until you have the core strength to hold the position easily. Then step away and pivot as you go.
