Great topic. Very helpful to hear/see an example of how to gather and use info on an opponent in round one.

Hey Coach Kris nice video on openings! To answer your question it just depends. I've in my past been more successful when I immediately blitz. As soon as they say "go!" I immediately attack. I sort of read my opponent right before the match. It depends how anxious they are and how confident. If I see they are nervous and it shows I immediately blitz...if they seem confident I might relax and become defensive...once I gauge and see what their tendencies are I immediately turn on the switch and become offensive. But for the most part it's blitz.

Reading your opponent beforehand is a definite plus! Sounds like we have the same psychological approach but different ways of doing it. ALSO planning to record your video tomorrow morning. Thank you for tuning in Stanley and commenting too!

I recently commented about creating a sparring sequence for students, that might identify anticipated defensive moves from opponents and follow-up attack moves. My taekwondo class works on kicks, spins, punches, one- and two-step sparring, but when we do actual sparring, it' usually ends up with a couple of students, dancing around kicking and rarely making contact. I would think, there might be a sequence of moves that could be put on video, taught, and practiced, that would give students a better idea of what real sparring is about?

Well that's a more difficult one- when I've ran into this problem while I taught I found that the mentality of the class is the first thing to address. A former coach I taught under explained the difference between "competition" class and normal class. Competition class was for thumping, seeing what you're made of, pushing yourself etc. Normal class was for the other stuff. Or for the parents - as Bruce Lee put it - "Learning martial arts without sparring is like learning how to swim on land." We don't want anyone to drown.

If it's your first fight the way to win is to just step in the ring and fight. If you fight you win already. Don't worry about the result brother at this stage

does this work against opponents who go all out on the first round? I usually get opponents who go all out in the first round

If you're able to keep yourself safe and gather info then yeah. If not, then you have to meet force against force

This video is so helpful i'll save it and practice it over and over again, but i have just something to ask you i wanna know if i'm doing it right or wrong, is it Ok to use reverse psychology like when i get nervous in a fight i shout loud and attack my opponent aggressively to convince my self that i am not afraid of my opponent, But suddenly my teamate keeps telling me that i should stop doing it because i'm not relax and i just get more anxious. What should i do!? Im sorry if my English is not good✌

Hey thank you for watching and commenting! It seems like you're being proactive about things and that's awesome! I'd suggest visualizing your fights instead and keep doing that until you're not as nervous anymore. Part of that just comes with time and experience though. I think that your teammate is correct too though and you shouldn't be too tense when fighting because you'll get tired very fast. Best of luck and if you have any questions let me know!
