does taekwondo not teach you how to block your face... it is an inferior technique in my opinion

+Henry S A lot of times it's not that bad to block a headshot if you can block farther away from their foot (their shinguard essentially). It's travelling slower than their foot and thus delivers less force (force is quadratic with speed and linear with mass) . There is still of course the chance for injury, and I totally agree that dodging is better than blocking 99% of the time. However, he is most vulnerable when he is going for a headshot and that is my opportunity to go for my own headshot or seek a favorable exchange. Sometimes I will just bite the bullet and block anyway if I can score in the process.
