When I watched this video before without subs I inferred the same result and didn't need a caption to tell me so. I want to know what he SAYS, not what he's doing. I can SEE what he's doing already. I'm a pretty easy-going sort but this is the first time I felt patronized by k-pop content captions. The onscreen annotations just keep interjecting in self-satisfied tone and ignored what Taemin said, the whole vibe just came across as haughty, like what fans want don't matter, only what the narrator thinks matter. Taemin is a warm person, but this patronizing translation feels cold. Please do a lot better, because Taemin deserves better.

You can email the Korean SRT file a few hours before uploading, I can translate them to standard English (and Chinese too), and give you in exact timecoded SRT files within 3-6 hours. Solving The Chronic Subtitles Issue ---- I'm a trilingual Malaysian, I'm self-aware enough to know just because I frequently play impromptu MNC business meeting interpreter doesn't mean I'm qualified to play translator. However I can help in one thing: verify translation/translator integrity. English-fluent Chinese bilinguals like me can see Hallyu translation bottleneck clearer than the average CJK natives (will explain why another time). Taemin's channel needs traffic, full stop. We have 2 problems to solve here: Quality of translation. Control of information through centralization. Point by point explanation here: Let's get AI out of the way: Papago/Gtranslate/ChatGPT ai translations still call for human expert editing. Attempts to muddle through will backfire on any global business. Full stop. Quality of translation --------------------------------- Quality is not flowery words but clarity (informational content) and continuity (lyrics storytelling). On Kpop KZbin, the most important factor is 'auto-convertible' English translation. Unlike typical official channel English subtitles, auto-convertible English subtitles can be auto-translated with built-in YT player caption translator or browser-based auto-translation apps into Bahasa, Spanish, Russian WITH LITTLE QUALITY LOSS. Two Shawol translators are in 'auto-convertible' category, Shawolmint and Agatho. Lyrics translation calls for professional creative writing experience in the target language. In Chinese language internet, we are spoiled for choice. On international English internet, I've only encountered 3 writer-class Shawols capable of not messing up SHINee's song meaning. The two mentioned above, and (an overkill to be honest) Metamorphor. Now, to the biggest point I want to add to this convo... Centralization of information ----------------------------------------------- Why is it important? Because, international fans PREFER TO TRUST OFFICIAL CHANNEL. This is actually a good thing! Traffic = algorithm-positive. Subscribers count. Global Billboard/Forbes/GAON/blah metrics numbers count. Artistry control = prevent clickbaiters dumbing down what Taemin said. (This problem has now spread to Chinese space due to a lack of official MV subtitles) Safety measure = We don't want tabloid and social media mob spinning what Taemin did or didn't do. Public relation for brand reputation = we certainly want good English communicators to maximize Taemin's EVERYTHING. We have many talented and GENEROUS patrons in this fandom, there is no need to resort to PapaGoo slop. The least I could do is to communicate my perspective. I have also gotten two of the above translators to say yes to providing their EXPERT CLASS translations works for free for Taemin's channel. 希望在場的SW為我們共同的需求發聲。 To summarize the above KZbin numbers growth requirement ------------------------------------------------------------- For Speaking/Informational Content: auto-convertible high-clarity English. For Lyrics: Professional English creative writers. Pheeew. So, basically, be discriminating but also have a little faith in the best of us. Instead of wallowing she quietly served Shawol Reddit with superb quality translations. Agatho made fabulous high effort pro quality videos to save Taemin's brand reputation, and reappeared only to save Taemin's channel during hack incident, explained to lyrics translation requesting fans, educate us why the best lyrics translations can't help Taemin if they exist on non-official channels. Metamorphor doesn't even ask for likes or subscribers. Just drops Billboard quality English songs that show us SHINee and Taemin's humongous global potential. The amount of love and respect for our guys and original songwriters are plain to see, for those who truly care about these things. Yet these super global fandom energy boosters stay buried, while Papagoo sea of noise is fast rising. Someone has to do something I guess.... I haven't spoken to Metamorphor, but Shawolmint has volunteered to supply high integrity subtitle files for free to boost official channels. Agatho has confirmed to pledge lyrics subtitles for Eternal lyrics videos including all b-sides, as a smart effective way to boost Taemin's artistic credibility: Agatho's main focus. We are blessed, we have real savvy worldly English communicators and exceptional visionaries with strategic thinking, yet ifans remain starved of the most basic form of connection... Maybe we just need a less public space to sort this out...
