When I watched this video before without subs I inferred the same result and didn't need a caption to tell me so. I want to know what he SAYS, not what he's doing. I can SEE what he's doing already. I'm a pretty easy-going sort but this is the first time I felt patronized by k-pop content captions. The onscreen annotations just keep interjecting in self-satisfied tone and ignored what Taemin said, the whole vibe just came across as haughty, like what fans want don't matter, only what the narrator thinks matter. Taemin is a warm person, but this patronizing translation feels cold. Please do a lot better, because Taemin deserves better.

If your schedule is tight, you could email me the Korean SRT subtitle files - which you have already transcribed and burned into the video. You can email the Korean SRT file a few hours before uploading, I can translate them to standard English (and Chinese too), and give you in exact timecoded SRT files within 3-6 hours. Solving The Chronic Subtitles Issue ---- I'm a trilingual Malaysian, I'm self-aware enough to know just because I frequently play impromptu MNC business meeting interpreter doesn't mean I'm qualified to play translator. However I can help in one thing: verify translation/translator integrity. English-fluent Chinese bilinguals like me can see Hallyu translation bottleneck clearer than the average CJK natives (will explain why another time). Taemin's channel needs traffic, full stop. We have 2 problems to solve here: Quality of translation. Control of information through centralization. Point by point explanation here: Let's get AI out of the way: Papago/Gtranslate/ChatGPT ai translations still call for human expert editing. Attempts to muddle through will backfire on any global business. Full stop. Quality of translation --------------------------------- Quality is not flowery words but clarity (informational content) and continuity (lyrics storytelling). On Kpop KZbin, the most important factor is 'auto-convertible' English translation. Unlike typical official channel English subtitles, auto-convertible English subtitles can be auto-translated with built-in YT player caption translator or browser-based auto-translation apps into Bahasa, Spanish, Russian WITH LITTLE QUALITY LOSS. Two Shawol translators are in 'auto-convertible' category, Shawolmint and Agatho. Lyrics translation calls for professional creative writing experience in the target language. In Chinese language internet, we are spoiled for choice. On international English internet, I've only encountered 3 writer-class Shawols capable of not messing up SHINee's song meaning. The two mentioned above, and (an overkill to be honest) Metamorphor. Now, to the biggest point I want to add to this convo... Centralization of information ----------------------------------------------- Why is it important? Because, international fans PREFER TO TRUST OFFICIAL CHANNEL. This is actually a good thing! Traffic = algorithm-positive. Subscribers count. Global Billboard/Forbes/GAON/blah metrics numbers count. Artistry control = prevent clickbaiters dumbing down what Taemin said. (This problem has now spread to Chinese space due to a lack of official MV subtitles) Safety measure = We don't want tabloid and social media mob spinning what Taemin did or didn't do. Public relation for brand reputation = we certainly want good English communicators to maximize Taemin's EVERYTHING. We have many talented and GENEROUS patrons in this fandom, there is no need to resort to PapaGoo slop. The least I could do is to communicate my perspective. Instead of wallowing she quietly served Shawol Reddit with superb quality translations. Agatho made fabulous high effort pro quality videos to save Taemin's brand reputation, and reappeared only to save Taemin's channel during hack incident, explained to lyrics translation requesting fans, educate us why the best lyrics translations can't help Taemin if they exist on non-official channels. The amount of love and respect for our guys and original songwriters are plain to see, for those who truly care about these things. I'm so happy to see no English subtitles when I click on this, I will try to be a saint and not be annoyed with the Korean subtitles on screen which I don't understand (even my heritage is Korean) because Korean language mastery is the the highest virtue a Kpop fan must obtain, I rreally don't mind just watching Taemin's pouty sexy lips talking interesting stuff with no English subtitles because he is clearly all about looks and cuteness and sexiness and skindeepness! While waiting for the subtitles like a good little ifan... I want to make constructive suggestions for Taemin's future singles and albums. Everybody who writes basic high school poems knows Eternal's AWESOME (sarcasm) English so I won't waste space. I'm a West born half Korean so I hope lyrics gods of Korea will hear me out: If Taemin doesn't want America/Billboard/Europe, if he's happy with Korea China Japan, then lyrics gods can keep putting nonsensical "trap in my loophole something that turn me down" in his mouth. It's okay because most fans in Japan China cannot tell fake hip-hop word salad from real American lyrics. But if Taemin is still trying to get another Billboard entry, if he still wants to tour LA NY London Paris Australia, then stop. Stop using English words. English words and English lyrics are two very different things. Just like Korean words and Korean lyrics, two very different things. Please, for Taemin's legacy, for his art, for his songs, protect Taemin from fake English phrases in his songs. No English words > fake English phrases. I want Taemin singing English lyrics I do. But these are not even English, so how can they be lyrics? These are junk. Stop making Taemin sing junk. Stop it. We fans understand English lyrics at Taemin's Ace GOAT tier is near impossible. So just do all-Korean songs. We'll read subtitles. It's cool. Please don't ruin beautiful Taemin songs with totally broken, totally unpoetic, totally meaningless pointless, totally pretentious, totally non-universal, totally Korean's idea of cool English. It's very, very, very, very, very ugly to English ears. It is okay if Taemin is just a shallow singer with cartoon voice. But he is not. His songs are too beautiful for ugly phrases. If you don't like them don't listen it's that simple. It looks like it flew right over your head that most of the songs on this album were made with big stage performances in mind, like for a world tour. GOAT is one of them the O-M-G-r-e-a-t-n-e-s-s part you probably dont like is meant to be done with a crowd. It's a little insulting to assume Taemin just takes whatever they give him with no input what so ever. The man doesn't just take whatever slop they hand him or settle for okay. His old music is still there for you to listen to if the new ones aren't up to your standards. Taemin has stated he wants to work more on writing lyrics, he is credited in Deja Vu and Say Less as a writer and those are the better ones, in my opinion, from this album. They have english words in them so you might find them bad but again Taemin wrote those unlike the others...

You dont speak for everyone these are your personal feelings not everyones, songs don't always need to be deep they can be face value and fun sometimes. Also stop phrasing things like they are making Taemin do this against his own will I'm sure he has say on what goes on his album. @@sleeplessnight03 I know he co-written most and wrote lyrics for two. His music sense is just top tier, his lyrical sense in Korean is probably great too, they sound flowy to my half-Korean ears. I'm proud proud proud of him trust me I am, naturally I feel protective of him too, which is the main point of my rant. I'm super thrilled when I heard rumors that he plans to only write non-commercial songs, hopefully that means there will be fewer song-killing English words and phrases...

Even if I can't understand what TAeMIN is saying just some words it's so great to see the recording, I really wanted to watch it. I love seeing Him talking about his ideas and how he reaches the notes during the recording is so interesting how he works. Woooo I love it Deja Vu has such high notes he for real burst in passion, for real. My boy was so excited! I was so excited about him starting in a new place hoping everything was as he wanted.
