Taeyong the Unparalleled Rapper

Taeyong takes part in making NCT's rap line stand out among other kpop groups, and it was time for me to highlight his talents for rapping a little more. I've neglected doing such video for awhile as I'm NOT a big rap ekspert or generally have a lot of knowledge on the topic. But I still wanted to show how good he sounds because I'm absolutely smitten by the way he raps and in awe of just how different he can sound on different songs. And I'm sure we have only seen an ounce of what he is actually capable of so far, and that there will be more to come. Especially if he has the chance to release a solo album.
I also want to emphasize that the rap parts I have chosen are merely ones that I thought would fit best with the categories I've established in the video. If there is a rap part that is excluded from this video, it does not mean that I don't think it's great because I most likely do. Some of my own personal favourite rap verses like City Lights and Whiplash are not included and it's simply because I couldn't really fit them into the categories or because I didn't want to give too many examples per category and make the video too long.
I've also tried my best to include rap parts from each NCT album to give a broader picture of his rap skills throughout his career. And I've tried my best to find live versions of the songs to show his live natural flow. However, not all have been performed live and will thus have a music video or lyric video showcased instead. An exception to this is Taeyong's Chain rap part. I liked the flow of the Japanese verse a lot more than the Korean so I wanted to show that one, but the few times they performed it live, the camera work was just horrible during his part and never focuses on him. So I just decided to go with the music video version.
Also note: the title I gave this video is the one SM/Capitol gave him when he was announced to debut with SuperM

He is the Dragon. I get extremely frustrated with people and ignorance. The man is a stallion in dancing, rapping, writing, composer, choreographer and dare I say sings pretty good too. I love all of NCT, I do, but when it's dancing they put him behind Ten. They have different styles hence you cannot even properly compare. For rapping it's behind Mark. Different styles once again. If anything they compliment each other and vibe of each other making them the perfect pair. He is the leader of NCT as a whole for a reason. He is unique in everything he does and there is a deepness that runs true. Some of the meaning in his lyrics goes above people's heads because the references he uses are not gimmicks but actually have hidden depth in their meanings. This is coming from someone who's favorite rapper is Bang Yongguk from B.A.P. If I hear he was scouted for his looks one more time, I'm going to flip. Looks might have got him the attention but he plowed his way through and proved w/o a doubt, his talents, dedication, and tenacity, kept him there because he sure belongs there. Too much competition to be kept just for your looks in one of the most sought out lucrative popular companies. He is intelligent and ahead of his time like NCT's music and concepts. He's in the right group. The Magician, the Wielder, the Dragon aka Lee Taeyong, is undeniably wickedly and sinfully unmatched. Thank you so much for the truthful breakdown like always LTY! @@myrakhan9401 Exactly, comparing isn't fair nor productive. They deserve respect and appreciation for their individuality and likeness too. But, they always put Taeyong as second and always bring up his looks and that sm promotes him too much. Well there are multiple reasons like I mentioned on why he is. Not that everybody doesn't deserve it. And it hurts more to hear it from within the fandom. Outsiders, I understand since they are ignorant but within the family, I expect better. No excuses.

Totally agree, but I think most who listen to kpop rappers hear the same times and feel comfortable with them. But has you say and this MV prices Taeyong is well above the normal...I said before and will always say he is a trend setter not a trend follower.... I've never been into rap but I know those you mention..and being from the home where rap was launched Taeyong is well in that league of outstanders....he's blessed with unmatched talents. Taeyong's rap skills are really underrated, if people speak about it it's always "he's good alongside mark" never as an individual and I find it a bit sad. Taeyong is for me one of the best rapper in K-pop. His voice is really unique and he knows how to play with it, like his voice can be really deep and raspy but also sweet and softer. His versatility is also one of his best quality, his rap can be fast, seductive,slow, rough, emotional.. How Taeyong deliver emotion in his voice like in mad city, piece of mind, yestoday, Stay in my life, end to start, love del luna.. His flow,quality of reading, pronunciation, How he uses his voice as an instrument, How he rides difficults beats. All this shows how great his rap skills are, so stop sleeping on it 👏 (Ps: my first point wasn't to compare him with mark but to point how underrated ty is.)

Same for me as well. As I came to kpop when my daughter took me to an NCT 127 concert in Vancouver nearly a year ago. I was enjoying myself but wasn’t fully a fan yet. Then they did Mad City and that is so my style. The raw emotion and power on stage had me standing and yelling. The more I got into it over the next few months has solidified my appreciation of Taeyong’s talent. His versatility is unmatched. The way he colours his voice depending on the song puts me in mind of strangely enough Eminem. List to old Eminem and you hear the difference between his styles. Like my name is and Stan as 2 classic examples of how he changes styles to suit the mood. Tae does the same thing.

I honestly stan kpop idols because of their looks at first, and then after fall in love with their looks, i will appreciate what they do like dancing and rap and compliment them like theyre the best at it. But no kid, i didnt find taeyong that attractive at first, but after a first listen to his rap in Baby dont like it (recommended by youtube bcause i like sexy songs 😂), he was the first rapper that i fell in love with. I mean, the first idol i ever fell in love with because of his rap not solely because of his looks. Just wanna share something:lol I don't why but whenever someone or people praising and admiring his talent and him, I just feel proud of taeyong ...I'm really happy and proud of him...like the songs that he write, everytime he perform on stage, everytime he dance, everytime I see him leading his members, I'm just happy that he gained so much confidence and power to himself and he got so much better and better everytime. When he performs he always give his best on stage and make sure that he set the stage on fire and memorable to all audience. My fav thing about TY's style is how he is so willing to experiment and play. I love how he takes his work so seriously but also plays all the time with new ideas. He never stays stuck in one rut. In live performances he'll add and adapt both choreo and how he delivers his verse. He uses such a wide range of his voice and his physicality that it is mesmerising. Taeyong raps is progressive, you can see how he developed his ordinary raps style (which was already a great thing) when he was an SMROOKIES to the this versatile and unique way of producing sounds. I keep saying that, for me taeyong isn't only raping like what the other rapper does, he is producing sounds while rapping, that's why it feels like a hit or miss in each song. Like it will sometime makes some people uncomfortable in one song but can be very fitting in another song. But I love how he challenges himself with that, and I know in a hands of great producer, both of him and the producers can create the most legendary sounds ever and I'll be waiting patiently for that time to come.
