Such a niche skill, but so needed for period instruments. How many extant harpsichords were ruined when strung with modern piano wire! Such incalculable travesties! Thanks, Malcolm Rose!

Sorry, a bit late replying - it is ‘Fortune’, by William Byrd. Definitely one I would like to learn!

Not sure where this version is from though - it doesn’t seem to match the versions in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book or Clement Matchett’s Virginal book. Guess it might be improvised, or from another source.

Ah, figured it out! This is the version by Sweelinck - ‘Von der Fortuna werd ich getrieben’.
