Ran a test flight last night. Discovered I REALLY need to relearn how to operate the bomb sight because my Bombardier is apparently legally blind. Flew the first mission to Brest, he bombed Spain. Also learned it's totally worth eating that extra flak field in order to approach Brest harbor from the east.

If it works the way it did in the original game, the bombardier locks onto the target at the start of the bomb run and never adjusts his aim point. If I you turn the AI off and back on I think he'll retarget again.

My dad was with the 457th out of Glotton England. Flew 35 missions as a radioman. He was shot down on his 5th mission but made it to France and back to England to do 30 more.

@@doncsicso81 Yeah, played it like crazy as a kiddo. Being non-english speaker I didnt understand a shit and had to do everything on trial and error approach. Even managed to learn pinpoint bombing without norden, (as I had no idea how to use it back then) just by looking down bombardiers window :)))

@@Vipre- Japp, it was learning by doing. B-17 had a steep learning curve. Nowadays you get a cake (achievment) if you are able to walk 10meters straight in a game. In these days your success after many hours was your cake.

Taff, I'm wondering whether the fact that the bomber was crabbing/ not flying level had anything to do with the inaccuracy of the bomb run? Any thoughts.

Great flight, the novice crew took some hardship in this operation.. it can be safely said the crew had their first baptism of fire, wounded and collapsing and having to treat each other's injuries. Yeah, the target was not destroyed.. but again.. new series, new crew, new experience.. new to the remastered version.. everyone's a novice. Just keep going out and all will come as effective as we remember in the original series, as said.. it's early days so.. you know. Looking on the plus side, got more air kills.. so that's some damage to the Luftwaffe anyway you look at it. Keep it up, the full version is yet to be fully released so.. this is the tip of the iceberg. Looking forward to the next episode, get a drink and take it easy tonight. Happy hunting mate 👍

I'm kind of interested to know what Allied troops are fighting towards St. Lo in March of '44. I think the surprise of D-Day in June will be somewhat lessened and the invasion troops are gonna catch hell. Meanwhile the boys in joint Operation Custer/Isandlwana are certain to be surrounded and destroyed for little gain.

It’s just a weird description that only makes sense if D-Day has already happened. The only other alternative could be the French Resistance or something.

@@BullGator-kd6ge Probably just a glitch where it's a stock description for St. Lo, whenever it comes up. Even if it was in '45 and St. Lo was hundreds of miles behind the lines, it would probably say the same.

I think the criticism about changing the mission profile is not without merit. It's logical, in game terms, to change the profile to avoid the flak and other unpleasantness. But USAAF pilots were not trained much in flying over water. There is a reason the profile had you pick up the French coast at Le Havre and then turn for Cherbourg. It would have been very difficult for the group to fly to a point over the Channel and then make a turn for the target. There would be no landmarks to guide them, and there are a great number of variables which would make "fly to this point over the Channel and then turn" very difficult, if not impossible, for the Group to execute. Whereas picking up a landmark and then making the turn would be far less complex.

I have noticed through doing some practice runs that even if I've got the target dead center with no drift at all in the Norden, the bombs still drift to the right of target relative to your bomber's direction of travel. Something that seems to have been the case in both of your bomb runs as well so far. I wonder if there's something not working correctly with the bomb sight.

Im curious of the controls with the game being as old as it is. Can the mouse be used to operate the turrets and the bombsite? I have a flight stick but still want to be able to manage most things with my mouse only. Thx in advance!

I am happy to have the lads alive and in one piece, but if I were higher in the chain of command I should call captain McNaight into my office for a word about the cumulative hit totals/damage of these past two missions. I am a big fan of the English accent and have been with the channel for a lot of the different battle simulations, but for this one the plane's name should be Americanized with a dropped "g." 😃

for being the redux, its not that much better. those guns firing still look archaic. the skins are nicer, but the sky box, water, etc , still fairly awful.

Please add more realism to your B17 missions. You would think, by watching you fly missions, that bombing the Reich was just a stroll through the park. Please follow mission parameters and please be a little more realistic. I believe that would make for more interesting viewing. These crews came home with many dead and mortaly wounded! For crying out loud! lol

Changing the flight plan to a safer route breaks realism? That sounds like a pretty realistic thing for a bomber crew to do. Maybe we watched different videos cause losing 4 bombers and half the crew going down to injuries doesn’t sound like a stroll to me.
