Just before lockdown, I caught my first pike on local canal using a 9ft feeder rod using a small light green lure. Pike was around 4 - 5 lbs.

Nice fish, Mike. I am from Connecticut in the U.S. and now live in upstate New York (U.S.A.) and have never seen Perch as big as your PBer in either place. And where we live now, the fishing is considered "world class"! Ours bigger than average I would say...1/2 the size of your PBer if even. I recently started trying drop shotting for any species and it has drastically improved my catches to a point it's all I do now. Recently, I've started adding a 14" leader on my hook. Yeah, it increases snags and tangles a bit, but man, especially in 'tighter' snaggy type water, it's increased the size of the fish too. Good luck in future sessions and we'll see you in the next one.

You would love fishing here in Canada. We have swims like that and catch not only perch but Bluegill , large mouth bass , Crappie( my fave),pike ,catfish and others.And its all free to fish .No pay as you fish. The spring is the best for Crappie , when they come in to spawn and they are so good too eat. Great video thanks. Cheers from Canada.

Excellent 2 pounder a real beauty. If your having trouble with line twist instead of tiring your leader direct to your Main line use a small barrel swivel to join them this eliminates the line twist. I use this technique a lot for largemouth and small mouth bass. Nice bonus pike love it.

I'm another drop shot addict and was wondering how long it would be before you got nailed by a pike, they take a lot of play trying to land on those light rods (I use the Rockfish ul 0.5-7g)but great sport. Thanks for another great watch.

I have landed 3 Pike on the drop shot so far. Have had no problems landing them as I have found that the lure hooks them just in the corner of the mouth as they snap at it. If I were targeting Pike however, I would use a wire trace.

Just bought myself a shiny new Daiwa Ninja 7' 8" 1 - 10g rod with a Ninja 3000 C-DH reel, got it yesterday. I bought it for ultra light lure duties, never even heard of drop shotting! Went to the weed infested, snaggy, low on water River Avon in Rugby at first light this morning. Did give it a go, but struggled even finding a viable swim. Blanked, was somewhat deflated. Come home, get back on KZbin and discover a thing called drop shot fishing. Not the first time I've heard the term, the guy who sold me the rod gave me the option of a 0 - g or the 1 - 10g version, I chose the latter for its strength, but he mentioned it being a drop shot version. Some further research shows the extra length of the 1 - 10g is because it is a drop shot rod. BUZZING! Guess whose out at sparrows fart tomorrow morning, drop shotting his way into all the gaps in the weed and snags! Great series this, of course I bloody subscribed, what do you take me for?

Thanks for the video. Not my thing but, watching this skill set it's interesting to consider what might be transferable to other skill sets. It's not the done thing to move bait from where it lands in beach fishing until you reel in. Why not? With all that distance between you and the bait. Cheers guys.

Is drop shotting always done a fairly close quarters like this to eliminate any possible slack in the line? I'm guessing you have to keep the line taut to ensure that the lure sits off the bottom and doesn't just drop to the bottom as it would if there was slack in the line.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 8 жыл бұрын
Generally yes, but you can catch fish at distance, you just don't have as much tension on the line, it is great for vertical fishing

another great video lads although I would have liked to see you drop shotting down harbour walls, structures hopefully targeting wrasse, scorpion fish, gobies & the like. also mike I do think your line was a bit heavy, l know you were perhaps going to catch pike I'm pretty sure the lighter line would be ok as you were never going to catch a monster under they conditions, having said all that congratulations on a marvellous perch,

Hi Michael, I used to dropshot with 6lb braid and 4lb fluorocarbon. Landed plenty of Perch, even a 3lb Pike. But once I got snagged I started loosing lures and then it starts to get expensive. I'd rather spend the money on some decent strong braid and line so that I can land fish AND get my lures back. I landed that 4lb Pike confidently on the gear I was using, also the strong line didn't affect any of my Perch fishing as you could see by the numbers I was catching. I will definitely be trying this Sea fishing! Although I think it will be much more effective in the summer months. Thanks for the feedback. Mike
@mikeyfelley
@mikeyfelley 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting back to me Mike, I also fish with 6lb & 4lb leader, I'm using duel at the minute & your right its not cheap, but does the extra strength not take away the bite detection? then again mike im confusing myself because you are drop shotting & not LRF & I guess you can drop shot at any weight really, You are bang on mike I lose a lot of gear but hey its all in a good days fishing lol
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 10 жыл бұрын
Michael Smart Not at all, you still get very good bite indication. As long as you stay tight to the line you will most likely feel a bite, even if you are on standard mono.
