Mike Pullen presents Dropshot Diaries. A series based on dropshotting. The series will feature how to drop shot, the best lures to use for dropshotting and many more dropshot fishing tips. Mike will be targeting mainly Perch, but he might catch Pike, Zander and a number of other species on the way. Dropshot Diaries will not just be restricted to freshwater fishing, Mike hopes to take the technique to the sea too. We hope you enjoy this exclusive new series to The Totally Awesome Fishing Show, Mike wants your feedback so if you have any suggestions for lures you would like to see in the series, or any locations you want Mike to try and fish at, then comment below :)

A lot of fishing videos on the net are big on gear talk, techniques, strategy and you've got that too. What really makes your channel stand out from the crowd for me is your quirky, playful and charming enthusiasm for the sport. Your videos really capture the joy of fishing.

Your show is a strange mix of old and new...and it works a treat. Love the Call of Duty style film from the chest cam, the appreciation of the countryside and the small pieces to camera. Nicely done and very watchable! Ive just rigged up for my first bit of drop shotting on my local commecial and if the rain ever lets up Im off out. Look forward to seeing the rest of the series....(drop shotting for cat fish would be a real winner!)

Only a small,n, 3lb but I,m really chuffed and i learned most of my Dropshot info from you guys. Definitely keeping up Dropshot along with Carp and I plan to try Dropshot for Sea Bass and Mackrell. Another great TAFishing show the quality and content is amazing. You cant find videos about fishing or the outdoors as good as this anywhere. I like the idea of outdoor channel, for me I always loved the outdoors as a kid I spent all my time outside and even during my college years I never went out and hit the clubs I always was on the river or in the woods.

Mike I thoroughly enjoyed this vid. Realy enjoyed your talk about the venue, tackle and thought your cooking stove and cup were realy cool. Kind if lucky breaking the tip of your rod cos mine is a bit too soft as well, might have to go for a bit stiffer tip. I'm also addicted to dropshotting . Being an allrounder myself I've just bought a one piece carp stalker rod of 6ft length was going to try for first time tomorrow but going to dropshot first then later in the morning try my new rod for a bit of stalking as my lakes produce in the margins all year round then dropshot in the late afternoon. Thanks mike for your hard work and time to make such great vids and your dad. I watch other vids but nothing compared to yours and your dad's vids . All the best mate looking forward to next diary and hope one day have the pleasure of meeting you both. Thanks buddy 👍

Another great video, with loads of helpful info too. I'm going to try this method for Trout in the small rivers around me in west Dorset. I had been using a Mepps spinner. Annoyingly many rivers have been fished out. I saw one chap who had removed about 6 trout, all less than 12" long that he planned to use to catch Pike. Although I've not the whiff of others species, I live in hope.

One thing I have done over the last few years when fishing ponds and lakes is in early summer , especially Rudyard Lake and Bath pool reservoir[both very close to me] is to snorkel and collect lures and many leads from the bottom and snags. One occasion I collected 12 plugs and spinners , 6 soft plastics and 22 carp leads, of course many are connected to braid , mono and lead core so I bring as much of that out as well, many only need hooks sharpening or replacing, but if you valued them at retail cost it would probably be over 60 quids worth of tackle in a couple of hours snorkelling, I have never not found stuff worth keeping and also surprising how close carp will pass when remaining motionless in the water ,maybe you could have a go Mike , and film your adventure, early summer is best before any algae bloom but the water has warmed a little.

Excellent method, TAF, I see is big on fresh water predators. An episode on ''top water pike'' would be amazing if you have any time spare!!! Something I have gotten into post spawn and late summer, my favourite gravel pit is more than chocked during summer! Poppers (single hook, back mounted) which I make myself, weed-less lures and explosive surface swirl action! Difficult method, the action however far out weighs catching.

Hi Mike, I'm a beginner to fishing and seem to be drawn to sea fishing, but being land locked in Nottingham I don't get to the sea much. Last year I tried pike fishing in a local canal and caught one! It was by accident I was reeling the bait in. Now I'm hooked (pun intended). I'm always on KZbin looking for beginners videos and think the TA Fishing channel is great. Few questions/suggestions can you tell us on your vids where you're fishing? I need ideas for locations to try out as a beginner and could possibly do a day trip out with one of my kids. What does dropshotting and LRF mean? What weight were you using? All the best! Gren

Great start to the series mike,like it. I would love it if you could cover more on how you work the lures through the water. I've been teaching myself on small rivers as no one in my family fishes and my mates are only interested in big carp fishing, But so far have failed to catch on lures or twitched spratt. Have had some luck with dead baits from the same areas.Cheers. Have you considered taking one of the T.A.army with you on one of these sessions? Waiting on your reply Richard willings

Hi Excellent video and a joy to watch someone obviously enjoying what they are doing. Could I raise one issue. You say that you have not lost a pike through biting off through the fluorocarbon. I can say that this is not my experience. I have had a number of lost pike (I think) as they are quite different on the hook to perch. I would be interested in a drop shot rig with wire components to insure against inadvertent damage to pike also a rig specifically for drop shooting for pike as it seems to work quite well especially in waters where other lure methods are impractical. regards John

TAFishing I'm just thi king of the unique way the hook would stand out in mid water. I think I'll try it when the time comes. ( hopefully soon )

Try dropshotting with flies :) Its great fun! Depending on the fly you have to change the rig slightly

I'm always asking myself wich side of the lure should be on top. I saw you use the minow with the flat side on top, if i am not mistaken. Do you think it makes any difference Mike? Thanks.

Hi Johan, Yes I did do that to make it look more like an injured fish. It affects the swimming action of the lure but it makes it look injured, which at the end of the day, a Perch will go for! You can still use it the normal way up though!

Have you ever been to the linear fisheries in Oxfordshire mainly carp fisheries but there's alot of species that no one targets.

Thank you for yet another informative video! I am wondering how I might adapt these techniques for pike fishing in upstate New York. Do you use any alternate rigs for pike? I am wondering how the fish are not bothered by the close proximity of the dropshot. You would think that would spook them, but you are hooking up left & right so I guess not! Thanks again.

Sean Earnest I just used the same rig, as I said in the video I wasn't targeting Pike. But Pike and Perch share the same water so it's inevitable. I think there is now a dropshot rig out there with a wire trace, might be worth looking it up? Yes it doesn't seem to bother them at all! Great fun! Mike

Hi guys, great video again love this idea for a series. One quick question, how do you order your fish action lures? Cheers, Alasdair

nice show! have you ever thought about trying flies like a woolly bugger on a dropshot? I caught some fish in either october or november dropshotting,and I was using bass assassin 1.5" tiny shads on the hook to good effect. I'd like to see you drop shot for big trout somewhere if possable. tight lines!

Hi Mike Really liking the dropshot diaries first video and some nice fish being caught Im just getting some dropshotting gear together to have a go at it myself i was just wondering what weight lead do you use for the different sizes of lures Thanks Brad
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad, In the small river I was fishing I like to use a 5g weight. If I am fishing a bigger river that is pushing water more, then I will up it to 8g. If I was fishing a canal, then probably 3g. Most of the time with the lures I use (2-3") I will favour a 5g dropshot weight. Hope that helps - Mike
