Not trying to be negative , not trying to get into any arguments but some folks just aint understanding me here. Throughout the years I have created, invented and modified a lot of gear. Having all this extra cookware is the very basis for those inventions you have seen throughout the years on my channel. One has to be surrounded by raw materials for projects and for inspirations to make new gear. Im not plugging store bought gear like other channels do, I create things, and being surrounded by junk helps me do that.

Hi Dave can totally see where you are coming from just like your workshop if gear is laying around you suddenly get an idea of how alter or modify but if put away out of sight you tend to forget about and then miss a golden opportunity to create something fresh, please don't let others out there put off they don't see the potential of what can be achieved

I totally get it Dave, I understand that messing around with all these different cooking sets is part of the innovation and fun that you bring back Home with you after you have been outdoors and have been inspired by ideas that just randomly pop into your Head. Same thing happens to me. I come home and start going to Good Will picking up new treasures to alter and reform into the ideas I've thought of. Some work out, some don't. But that by itself is part of the fun of being into an outdoor Lifestyle. Its like bringing some of being outdoors Home with yourself. Happy Trails to you my Friend, Thanks for your videos. JT. from Oregon

You get me! We do think a like. You have to be surrounded by items like this for inspiration and raw materials for inventing other cookware or kits. Before this video even hit 1,000 views I was insulted, called pack rat and hoarder. Some don't understand an inventor needs these things to build upon and experiment with. That's how unique items are born. Its great to hear my own thoughts in your comment! Thanks for watching JT!

Hi Dave, Enjoyed your presentation. I like junk! I have collected many items of intrinsic value that I consider to be raw material. I have used this material to fix,repair and build items around the home and property. The latest project was a machinery shed roof repair. I had collected barn beams that I saved from a friend that was about to use them as fire wood. I traded fire wood for them. They were stored in my 1850’s vintage barn for potential future use. Some folks might consider that I qualify as a “mild” hoarder, including my wife! Fact is that I have saved many dollars and helped many of my buddies by providing them with the junk they need to complete their projects with material that would have ended up in a landfill. I appreciate what you have done with your collection. Keep up the good work.

What a fantastic video, I love going to garage sales and thrift stores with an open mind looking at stuff thinking what can I do with that, and getting it for 50 cents. and then modifying to your needs. I love things like old thermos bottles 18 Gage food grade the bigger the better cutting them open taking 3 sizes 1 l, 750 ml, 500 ml making 2 nesting pots and a cup and using a wide mouth Bass spreader to hang them over the fire. some times if your lucky they have their lids with them and you can take it apart separating it into 2 cups or 2 bowels you are only limited by your imagination.

Dave you inspired me to make my own stove! I took an empty steel gallon container, like the square kind paint thinner comes in, and cut it into a movable firebox and stove. There's a flap cut out of the back to bottom feed wood, and the handle is a hollow piece of steel tubing I can use to blow in the fire, with tent stakes bent as hooks. Then the hooks swing down and act as legs to stabilize it. Thank you for showing me that homemade camping supplies can be as good or better than what you can buy. It was a lot of fun to make and I can't wait to take it camping!

One of the things I enjoy about your videos is the diy stuff. You inspire me to build gear, and that’s fun. We build 200’ aluminum boats, so the scrap is endless. Built me a version of the hanging table from your tree grill. 2 piece that’s connected and doubles in size when opened. And it can be configured in different ways with holes that I drilled. Maybe one day I’ll get a video on the line. lol. Thanks for the inspiration D.

I started bringing back sturdy loose pot lids to match with the stainless bowls I had kicking around.. lol .. my cook sets are a mix of store bought pieces and home-cobbled parts.. they all work well for what I'm trying to get done.. that's all that matters! Great stuff. I remember seeing most of your cook sets. How about revisiting the swamp grill and swamp chair. Don't Drop Your Camera!

Thanks Jim, I'm glad you liked it. LOL, man that was horrible losing that camera! I haven't been back to the swamp to film since then. Thanks for watching

Your first home-made billy can handle design was ingenious, good work there Dave. Watched the whole video and I am sure I have seen at least 85% of your cook sets in previous videos but it just doesn't matter, I like watching your videos and look forward to the next one. Happy New Year and I wish you a great year in 2018, thanks for all you do to educate and entertain us.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it all. Yep, most of this stuff was in previous videos. I have some cool stuff I didn't show because they will be in future videos. Take care and you have a Happy 2018 too!

The old Mirro pot with vented lid was actually a bun warmer. Mom would line with a heavy hand towel with part of towel to cover biscuits. Cover and keep in the oven til dinner is ready. Then it moves to the table and kept covered to keep buns warm. 1960's... Fun video!!!
@Reallybigmonkey16 жыл бұрын
That's fantastic to know! I knew it was from the 60s but wasn't sure of its intended use.

Might even be older than that since I am 70 now and that was when I was still at home. Sad when stuff you grew up with are called antiques! Love your inventiveness, your straight foreword presentations, humor and passion for even the littlest of stainless steel pots!

Awesome Stuff you have Dave, Thank you for sharing. So many great ideas you've had, so many cool gadgets you've made. Don't let them negative Nancy's get you down Dave. You are doing what you like, and most all of us love it. On a side note, I thought you made a video of you sewing that last item? Seems like I remember you sewing some tricky little beast, thought it was last Gem you shared. All the best MIC

Thanks MIC! I'm glad you liked it and all the other stuff I do. I've done a few sewing vids but none on that balaclava pot holder thingie. I may one day. Take care and thanks for watching

"...But WAIT: THAT IS NOT ALL...this balaclava is a clothes bag, a pillow and..." I don't believe anyone else on KZbin can touch your store bought, invented or just plain mashed-up cooking gear options. I challenge the guy who tagged you to watch this all the way through without his head spinning!

I had a very weird kind of idea watching the video again. What if you could sculpt the faces of Flathead and Big Nose onto a pot? You could put them somewhere in your gear room watching what they helped create. After all they are speaking through you...

I give old camping gear away. I wish I still had some stuff that is better than the new equipment. Except I still have the Jansport D3 backpack that comfortably hauled nearly a hundred pounds of gear. Now elderly, I have a smaller molle bag. Reasoning is that if you have a lot of space, you will have a tendency to want to fill it.
@Reallybigmonkey16 жыл бұрын
I hear ya Rick, the bigger the pack the more stuff you will carry. I have given away some gear in the past but not much
@RickKepple6 жыл бұрын
The neatest contraption I've found is a wood burning gasifier backpacking stove. I'm just trying some folding saws. I go in the woods filming animals and stories now and then, so it's nice to carry a little gear for just in case. Stanley is making some neat gear now.

Fantastic video! Makes me wish I had kept more of my grandmother’s old aluminum cookware. I see lots of it in the items you’ve found. I just never thought of using it for camping when I was a kid! I think some other commentators mentioned the Stanley kit; I’ll second or third that! For a one person trip I pair mine with a nested stainless cup and a small alcohol stove. If I need a pan I carry one of the old original stainless GI mess kits. Love the videos! It’s good to see bushcrafting in the same sort of terrain and climate I’m use to?
@Reallybigmonkey16 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ralph, I'm glad you liked it all. Oh man, Pretty much all our Grandparents stuff would make excellent camp gear. Nowadays everything is made so different. Them new Stanley kits will probably sell by the millions! Thanks for watching
