Dude was right. The song is about Billie’s ex boyfriend and the woman he was in a long term relationship with. Jesse Rutherford (lead singer of the band the neighbourhood) and Devon Lee Carson. Jesse and Devon were in a long term relationship, but at some point they “fell out of love and both let go.” Billie was a shoulder to lean on for Devon..until July. I guess that is when Billie and Jesse made it official. I believe they were together for about seven months until they both decided to call it quits. To me it seems that the reason it didn’t work out is because Billie kept seeing Devon in the back of her mind..all the time. Edit: and yes, I think you crossed the line, Billie. It seems that you broke the girl code. It does seem that Billie and Devon remained friendly after the break up. They were spotted and photos were taken of them going to a Halloween party together last year after the break up.

You need to listen to Lamour de ma Vie to see how it resolves. She does that song in this live session also, but the lyric video is where she really goes off on a tangent, singing about the guy being so mediocre and she's so glad it's over.

The title of the song may be to an allusion to Wildflower Cases”, a brand founded by Devon Carlson, who had previously dated Eilish’s now ex-boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford, frontman of alternative rock band The Neighbourhood. Ha! Billie's full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell. Her brother goes by "FINNEAS" but he uses the O'Connell name.

Yes, the guitarist was her brother, Finneas. Although Billie is often recognized as a solo artist, it's really a duo. All their songs were written by Finneas AND Billie with one exception, her first viral song Ocean Eyes Finneas wrote for HIS band but decided Billie's voice would work better on the track. Finneas has done ALL of their production. When they recorded that first track, Billie was 13 and Finneas was 18 and they released the song on SoundCloud in November, 2015. Nine months after Ocean Eyes was released, they were signed to Darkroom/Interscope Records (August 2016). They recorded their first EP, "Don't Smile at Me" in 2017 and later released several singles including the MONSTER hit collaboration with Khalid, "Lovely" (2.1 BILLION views on KZbin.) Ocean Eyes, their first EP, their later singles, and their first album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go" were recorded in Finneas' TINY Bedroom at their parent's house in L.A. That album was released on March 29, 2019. That album won 7 Grammys (4 shared, 1 individual for Billie, 2 individual for Finneas). They have since won 2 Oscars - "What Was I Made For" - Barbie film, and "No Time to Die" - James Bond - No Time To Die film. Billie & Finneas have won a total of 11 Grammys and 2 Oscars between them - Billie will turn 23 in December 2024. They have been nominated for 7 Grammys this year (2024). My suggestion for you? Either start with the latest album, then go back to the beginning (Ocean Eyes) and go chronologically... or just start with Ocean Eyes and go chronologically. I promise the journey will be amazing.

WILDFLOWER is about a threesome relationship and it practically breaks the girl code. So you get into a relationship with a friend's ex-boyfriend and you feel uncomfortable and can't handle it. That's why she ends this relationship. In an interview, Billie says that HMHAS is actually a journey through her diary. She has never made such a personal album. It makes it even more valuable to me. @@sandraschumacher5879 oh absolutely, I don't think it's particularly out of the ordinary. I was commenting in terms of the track listing and the variety of story she explores through the album. Obviously this song is heartbreaking, but the context of the guy being quite a bit older and knowing her from such a young age...then him also being her friend's ex... Thinking about a song like Lunch then makes you wonder how much the experience she is describing in this song shaped her future romantic life. The sexuality isn't what I'm wondering the most about here. It's how much this affected her moving forward. Also though, the guys don't always pick up on the subtleties sometimes. I think they missed some stuff on their first listens of Chappell Roan regarding who Chappell was singing about.

Yeah the idea I get from the song (and based off things she has said in interviews) is that she comforted her friend after her breakup, then started dating her friend's ex and was feeling guilty about the situation. Wildflower is also the name of Devon Lee Carlson's brand, who is an ex girlfriend ofJesse Rutherford, and Billie also dated Jesse for a time afterward so some speculate that this song is about that situation.

By the way it isn’t accurate to say Finneas does all the production anymore, in her past albums Finneas did do most to all of production but Billie took a major step forward this album and is credited in engineering for Hit me hard and soft. Also she did a LOT of the lyrics for this album Finneas got tired of making music and took a step back, they talked about it on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music interview for their new album. They record all of their sessions and there’s a couple showing her producing Chihiro :)

hey guys, you're so much fun to watch! Finneas is great, check out his solo work as well! you should watch the whole songline, it's 20min and something... they also talk in between the songs, it's really sweet and beautiful! about the song, I don't believe it's quite how people usually understand it. For me, "did i cross the line" is more about the line of thoughts that she couldn't control, just like we can't control wildflowers cause they will pop in anywhere and is completely out of our control. by listening to the other songs of the album I feel is more like... I have this relatioship I can't fully access, this person I can't fully access and yet they say I'm the love of their life, I know them like no one else and yet I don't get what I want and need from it, so it gets hard no to compare and think about the previous relationship. On the apple interview with zane lowe he asks if there's any cheating about it and she says that there's not! and it's so noooot like billie to do something like that.. so. If you haven't yet... please watch Stephen Colbert show The Greatest.
