*REACTION* NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score (Live)

Hello Alex, Jake & Evan [ Two and A Half Brothers ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Side note... This is Wacken Open Air. The biggest Metal festival in the world. They were headlining that year. Amazing festival. Amazing line-up every year... And if I may pride... I was there... During this concert😏 (80,000 people) still to this day one of the best live performances I've ever saw👌🏼 go down the rabbit whole... And enjoy the wonderful music Nightwish has to offer😊

The festival takes place on a farm hence the bull's head logo. 82,000 people in that crowd to see Floor Jansen deliver, in my opinion, one of the best vocal performances ever. Floor Jansen, Nightwish's own 6' Valkyrie, is the most versatile, powerful and pitch perfect female singer I've ever heard and I'm older than dirt. They play lighter and heavier songs. For example, one can still compare two high-quality film comedies, because everyone likes a different kind of humor, but one can hardly compare a comedy with a drama. And you don't read the same author over and over in the library either. So, I guess ... I'm not talking about the fact that the bands you name are classics of the genre. For example, yes I admit the "High hopes" cover is better than the original for me, but to judge that Nightwish are better than Pink Floyd, Nightwish would have to cover most of the 222 songs in the 59 years of the existence of the classic rock band Pink Floyd like this, and the main thing is the question the one who invented all those songs.

I'm not going to hate on anyone for making the comparison between Floor Jansen and Amy Lee. These guys ain't the first, and they won't be the last. I was a big Evanescence fan for a while and still like their music. I think Amy is a great singer and front woman. But the things that Floor Jansen can do with her voice make Amy pale in comparison. The single most versatile singer I have ever seen in my life, and a genuinely lovely person too (not that I'm saying Amy isn't also genuinely lovely!) Hope you guys watch some more Nightwish to see how versatile the whole band is. Every song is different and whatever you expect from the song before listening to it, you're probably going to be wrong!

It’s a shame they’re still relatively unknown in North America. They kick ass on all the garbage pop/hip hop we get inundated with here. Toumas the keyboardist is the band leader and songwriter. HELLO boys!!! Nightwish fan from South Florida, U.S.A.!!! Been a NW fan since Winter of 2018 when I discovered them here on youtube from a reaction channel even back then!!! Don't let this "Score", this masterpiece, fool you into thinking THIS is how NW will sound in all songs because they have 3 EPIC masterpieces and this is the FIRST!!! They are a Symphonic Metal band and lead singer Floor Jansen (YAWN-sen) has been with them since Fall of 2012, so WELL over a decade. She started out in the Symphonic power metal band After Forever and after they broke up in 2009 Floor put together another metal band called ReVamp It was during her time in ReVamp that she began growling and quite impressively!!! There IS ONE Nightwish song where she is doing ALL the growling in the choruses underneath the bassist Marko singing, so check out "Yours Is An Empty Hope" Live in WEMBLEY. The guitar is NASTY and DIRTY in that one and mid way into the song Floor turns into a SIREN luring you in for a metal DEATH lolol. I like HEAVY so that song is in my top 10 Nightwish songs!!!! I sincerely hope you guys will check that one out, Hugs from FL!!!

I tech'd at a pipe organ manufacturer for a year, bitd. (Rodgers Organ, Hillsboro OR) Tuomas' 'pipes' look to be about 14 ranks of G3-C4... exactly the right size for a bottle of burgandy. (actually, they are a riff on the Sibelius sculpture in Helsinki, but that's not nearly as metal as red wine.)

The crowd surfers are probably German. The Wacken Open Air is in Germany and is one of the oldest and largest metal festivals, with 85,000 visitors. The festival takes place on what was and is partly a former pasture. Hence the bull's skull, the festival's logo. Symphonic metal emerged from power metal. Mastermind and keyboardist Tuomas says: "Symphonic metal existed before us, but we took it to a new level." Nightwish was able to gather other bands around them and thus form symphonic metal as an independent subgenre. There are more bands like Nightwish. Singer Floor says of her singing that most singers make the mistake of stopping singing after the tour. You have to keep singing every day to stay at a high level. Floor is like a competitive athlete who trains every day. That's why it sounds so effortless. Floor's harsh vocals are almost only used sporadically. She did it often with her previous band: ReVamp - Disdain Live at Graspop (2010) It was one of the last concerts with drummer Jukka. Shortly after the recording of the next album began, he was permanently out due to illness. His friend Kai replaced him. Here he introduces himself with a drum solo: Nightwish Live in Tampere 2015 🎶 Weak Fantasy 🎶 High Quality The band disappears in the middle because only the backtracks are playing. They are original recordings of an orchestra. They have never been on tour with one. Other symphonics, however, have. They are not Vikings, they are pirates. The song was written in 2003, when Pirates of the Caribian was in the cinemas. Tuomas almost never reveals what it is about in his songs. You are supposed to interpret it for yourself. For me, he is ending his friendship with the first singer, Tarja. After the end of the tour for the album with the song, she is fired. Hi Guys, greetings from UK Thanks for taking the time to check out my favourite band There are no egos in this band, the singer (Floor) left the stage when the guitar solo started so that the guitarist (Emppu) would get the limelight. All members left the stage in the middle orchestral piece because they were not contributing to the song at that time, not for a water break. The song was composed by the keyboardist (Tuomas) but the orchestral part was a backing track performed by The London Philharmonic Orchestra. It would be far too expensive to take a whole orchestra on tour with you If you would like more pyro, a bit of shredding and to hear the basist (Marko) sing, I highly recommend another song from this same concert. The song "Romanticide" is about the breakdown of a relationship to the point where they end up screaming at each other. It is a true Metal song and I think that you guys will like it. The drummer (Jukka) also shines bright in this song

I first heard Nightwish in 2004 (I think) and I've loved them ever since. Greetings from the middle of Canada! I absolutely love all your movie and show references (hearing Joey Batey sing with Floor? Omigosh YES PLEASE). If you want to learn more about history, may I suggest Sabaton? Their drummer, Hannes, is married to our Dutch Valkyrie here. They're also power-metal, writing songs about battle, soldiers and heroes from just about everywhere. I’m in 🇨🇦 and being introduced into this bubble of symphonic metal has transcended my thought of the entire music scene. Yes it’s always Evanescenceic as y’all said BUT Amy Lee will never measure to Floor. Yes the music is opera meets meets metal. If you dare to go down this rabbit hole. Be prepared that Nightwish has a sound nothings nothing to compare to in this 💩 bubble music scene here. Comparing this style to past and present rock. The biggest 2 differences is Nightwish is the symphonic elements that gives the songs a fuller epic sound AND how the song writer of the band will create the none typical rock song intro pre chorus, chorus solo alto …… these guys are the real deal! Trust me as I’ve seen all flowed the best past to present being a n my 50s. Glad y’all enjoyed your first taste and I suggest your next door to open with his band. “Story Time” from the same concert. Floor Jansen the leadsinger of Nightwish is Dutch and did The Rock Academy. After that she studied musical theatre and after that she studied opera. She was in 2 bands before Nightwish. The band After Forever and Revamp. Floor is considered as one of the best singers in the world. There are very few singers in the world that can sing a song like Ghost Love Score. This song was the 13th song she sang that night. Wacken festival is held in Germany and is one of the biggest metal festivals in the world with 82.000 people attending. Nightwish is what you call Symphonic Metal. There are more Symphonic Metal groups in Europe. Nightwish play all over the world but in the US people hardly know about Symphonic Metal. Most epic song ever? Not even the most epic song from Nightwish. That would be Greatest Show on Earth. Their style is symphonic metal. Some of their earlier albums can be considered power metal.

All their first four albums are power metal albums. After that they got into much more experimentation (although some songs on their latest + EFMB and Imagenareum still have the power metal fundament in them.

Welcome guys. This could be the best rabbit hole you go down for a long time. I found the band about 7 years ago and I'm glad I did. Nightwish is one of the few bands that is best live. These guys aren't flashy, they play what the song requires and they do it very well. They absolutely bring it and the female singer is Floor Jansen just might be the best female singer on the planet today. She will draw every emotion you have out of you. Enjoy your journey

They released a week ago a new album, Yesterwynde, and four official music video's were released by the band. But live video from Wacked, Tampa, Tampere, Buenos Aires and elsewhere is also very entertaining

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Guitar player - Emppu - is a very amazing and skilled player. But unlike many, he doesn't show off, he plays what's needed, how's needed, together with the band. He can do slow and calm solos but when needed and song requires, he can shred hard. He's also one of biggest jokers in band, constantly moving around the stage, cracking jokes, also playing harmless pranks on band members and so on. Check other songs from this same concert, but also for example their High Hopes version, a tribute to Pink Floyd.

Awesome reaction guys! I rarely see multiple reactors that work that well but you didn’t talk over one another and made good observations so I thought it worked pretty good. Floor Jansen is an amazing singer and you haven’t seen half of what she can do. The rest of the band are musicians at the top of their game. Wacken 2013 starring Nightwish and co-starring the 80,000 is..wow!! The energy this band always creates with their crowd connection is incredible!! The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible Welcome aboard the Nightwish express. It takes you away.
