The Wall at Kirkwood is crazy. I’m a snowboarder and my friend took us on the #10 lift on accident when I had just learned how to use my toe edge. I was quite literally falling down a 85 degree wall of ice 😭 Horrible for a beginner but fun for an expert 😅 Homewood was near impossible to get to last year because of the highway closures 😢 Will definitely have to check out and stay away from some areas you mentioned 😂
@phyein4815 Жыл бұрын
The lift to the Wall is basically yard sale theater. Even if you're not planning on going up novices can still get plenty of views below of little tumbling and sliding ants peppering the massive white wall of bumps

On days with less than ideal conditions, patrol and/or mountain ops will size people up at the bottom before letting them get on chair 10. If you don't pass the vibe check, they turn you away.

I’ve seen people go up just to go back down; they get up there and realize it’s not for them. Staff gets real mad when people do that. They often make the line a maze at chair ten to ward people away. The views off Norm’s Nose are spectacular :D

Pretty spot on reviews IMO opinion. Diamond Peak is the only resort I haven't been to on the list, but I've mtn biked thru it lol! Heavenly's overrated overall so happy about it's ranking. Sugar & Rose are my main resorts, I typically get the IKON for Palisades/Mammoth every other yr. Thanks!

Pretty solid list though I would swap Rose for Sugar Bowl as those chutes really are some bad ass terrain and though Squaw / Alpine is by far the overall toughest terrain once you factor in the crowds and blown out snow I feel like it loses much of its appeal, Kirkwood would be my overall pick for best expert resort
@Shrek_is-everywhere18 күн бұрын
Personally I would put northstar above a few on this list. I can 100 percent agree that this resort is definitely not known well for its expert terrain but if you include the terrain park in this video northstar would move up a lot. The park includes some of the craziest features of any California resort so for this, you could probably put northstar in at least #6 or 7. Just saying I am giving absolutely no hate to this video I absolutely agree with every other park on this video Pls note: Your my favorite KZbinr

The definition of expert terrain is filled with nuance. One of the most challenging things to do in skiing is to carve a turn on a bunny hill. Try it sometime and you’ll see what I’m talking about. And thank you for saying KOO-wahr instead of ko-LORE
@skifast_takechances Жыл бұрын
it's challenging but probably not a good descriptor of "expert terrain" which usually implies some element of risk
@grizzkid7955 ай бұрын
Just flip the list around and you will have more challenging bunny slopes and less cool-arrs. Also, if you ski backwards with your eyes closed it will be more challenging.

Good list, I agree with your top 5 although I might swap Rose for Sugar bowl. Well done. If you counted Mammoth with these resorts, where would you (others fee free to jump in) rank Mammoth? I think 2nd. Squallywood still the king.
@daneg10 ай бұрын
as someone who was skiing every double diamond the likes of NY and VT could offer when I was 12 years old, one look at what passes for "double diamond" out west is enough for me to never EVER consider a trip to the top of any of those resorts. 😅 PS - mad river has no place on that list. and I'm a big mad river fan. oye. those cliffs and chutes look insane.
@ST198592 ай бұрын
Theres plenty of stuff in between though that you would be comfortable with and amazing terrain. But yea as someone from the west whos seen the east the absolute nuttiest terrain out there is a simple black diamond here, hell Tuckermans Ravine wouldnt even come close to the toughest stuff on this list. That said the ice coast snow is what ups the challenge out there

Knowledge Wanted!!! I’m skier going to Tahoe for the first time in mid-Jan. I’m prefer longer blues, but blacks, or greens with cool side hits are great too. But my #1 priority is avoiding lines. Anybody have a solid recommendation???
@DaleySpam Жыл бұрын
If you go midweek Heavenly is probably best for long groomers. Weekends get crowded, but there isn’t much avoiding that anywhere in Tahoe. Northstar would be another good option, but maybe is more crowded.
@BradleySpahn Жыл бұрын
Backside at Northstar is prob the winner. You’ll have to cope with long lines on the frontside to get over there, but once you do you’ll be lapping all day. Some of the runs are labeled as blacks but they’d be blues at most other resorts. Kirkwood is also an option, but the blues can be a bit short.

OK...but can't you get a better skier with the Gopro? He needs to move down to a beginner or intermediate slope to learn how to ski. I think this video appeals the teenage boyz that are tying to impress their girlfriends. What you presented to me is not fun. Why do I want to ruin my skis with all the rocks you show in the video? I tune my skis everyday I go skiing and I get longevity and performance out of my equipment. Hint: To everyone. watching this video; if you learn to ski well, then you will enjoy skiing much more. Don't end up being a hack like most skiers in videos I see and never progressing. Until you become a true expert skier and master easier terrain, you will remain a hack that will be made fun of, and not enjoy skiing either. Your money is better spent on lessons, clinics, or race programs that will teach you how to ski. By all means...DO NOT TEACH YOUR GIRLGRIEND OR WIFE TO SKI. I don't have to say this for girlfriends or wives as they already know...men of say 13 to 99 are unteachable.
