There’s hardly any tahoma 31 content online! I’ve been scouring for it. Great video! I’d love to see a bunch of close up video to really get an idea for what it’s like. Sounds like it grows slower vertically but faster laterally. I’m obsessed with this cultivar. Tiftuf is so similar to Tifway.

Love this Vid! I have Tifway 419 in the front yard and after watching y’all’s videos decided to go with Tahoma 31 for a backyard reno. Just got 8,000 sq ft put down 5 days ago. My landscaper wanted to do tifway and I responded, “You should watch the Lawn Tools!”For real though, I talked to two sod farms that had celebration, tifway, and tahoma - each one independently raved about tahoma and said it was the best.

@The Lawn Tools , I have Tahoma 31 from Riverview Sod. Due to lawn needing leveling and a giant zero turn mower, I have been mowing at 3+” all season. The best looking part of my lawn is super thick and has never had a single seed head. Parts of the lawn, presumably with the most NPK deficiency has not grown quite as thick and has frequently had seed heads. So, there is at least some experience around with high Tahoma. I also agree that it seems to have less brown stalk.

So as a fellow Razorback fan, I too remember when the Hogs got their new grass. The wear tolerance is why a lot more sports fields are going to Tahoma 31 turf. The turf is in my opinion is the best. great video, watched this like 3x now, down to doing Zeon Zoysia, Tiftuf, or Tahoma 31, they all look great, I'm in north Dallas, Tiffway always looks like dogcrap in Aug, cut it at 1", maybe worms/grubs, dont treat for them like I should, do Milorganite, and spray a 12-x-x every month, cut twice/week. BTW, TPC Craig Ranch going with Tiftuf just announced a major complete renovation of the PGA event here in north Dallas. luv ur channel man! didnt think you could cut 419 down to that short wow!

While I dont have Tahoma 31 with my 419. I do have Latitude 36 in the front, with 419 in the back. I've noticed the 419 grows nearly 3x as fast as the Latitude and isnt as dense as the Latitude. I think we're seeing what new technology and new varieties are able to do for us.

Here in Arizona i grew up in the valley that developed Princess 77 and have 1000sqft on my faraway yard. Its 1/2 tall and super tight i cut it every 2 days and the 1/3 rule doesn’t apply lol it grows like gang busters! My new putting green is TifGrand and i got that in Sod , i mow it at 3/8 right now being its only 6months old. Its a finer blade than P77 and its way more shade tolerant but its was sensitive to cutting. The color on the TifGrand is darker than the P77. But the P77 is far more durable. U can take a divot with a wedge and its grown back in a week !

I've seen many of your videos, love the videos and content... so today I need to buy a pallet of bermuda to patch a section in my front yard after adding extra soil to get above the rocks the builder left behind. I'd seen an article about the Tahoma 31, living in Tulsa it's available just south of me. Wondering if putting the Tahoma 31 in the middle of an Astro bermuda lawn would be a mistake? My hope would be the Tahoma would spread into the Astro and take over.

The two cultivars are likely to have somewhat different care and maintenance guidelines. I'm not sure from the video that mowing recommendations for each have been observed so that we are comparing apples to apples. Tifway 419 has a 1/2" minimum mowing height, thrives at 1/2" to 3/4", and is sensitive to the "one-third rule." The Tahoma 31 site lists 5/8" as minimum nominal mowing height. I'm not sure who would recommend scalping in warm season for any reason if the one-third rule is not observed. It looks as though your Tifway 419 is a bit stressed due to mowing. Perhaps more tolerance of mowing habits is desirable and Tahoma 31 has that. That's fine, but properly maintained Tifway 419 here in Arizona looks considerably more consistent in color and density at 1/2" to 3/4" than yours photographs. That said, a lot of Tifway 419 is installed here, but in lawns of folks who are not enthusiasts like us, and they allow it to grow way to long and cut way too infrequently with rotary mowers. I wouldn't be surprised that Tahoma 31 is superior for your climate in Arkansas since winters can get pretty brutally cold (I grew up in Ft. Smith). Perhaps Tifway 419 just doesn't stay as strong there due to the harshness of the winters? Don't know. What do you think? Go Hogs!

whats the best way to get tifway 419 to spread? i laid some sod down in late march of this year and its just not doing what I want it to do lol. so here's my story. live in San Antonio, TX. laid it late march. looked great up until late June and started to realize I kept it to high and mainly kept it at 3inches because it looked good at that height, well I listen to some people online how bermuda does better cut shorter so I went for it. started in early July cutting twice a week and getting as low as 1inch in a matter of 3 weeks. now its brown, I just sprayed some nitrogen (6-0-0) and Iron .75-0-0 but its only been a couple days and yes I'm noticing some green pop out just not as much as Id like. what do you suggest? my biggest worry is I'm either putting down to much water or possibly not enough in certain areas with my waterhose sprinkler setup. (4 gear drive rainbird sprinklers in 4 corners of yard) to overlap at certain times in the morning. usually, it will be mon, wed, Friday and sunday at 30 min per 2 sprinklers. any help is appreciated, this is for anyone to helpout lol.
