+Georgi “Kaze” Marinov Did you read the dialog? As in 1:06 : "Today I come to consult and see which one is stronger. Tai Chi or Judo?". That calls for a real randori, not a parody. I practiced Judo since I was 14. Under two strict Senseis (Sensei Rodríguez and Sensei Feliciano) and later on under Sensei Hiromi Tomita (hellish in a good way) and learned quite a bit about Judo's philosophy and discipline, besides technique. In my book you don't make a parody of the discipline in order to make it look this or that way, you do Judo. Period. He had the chance to throw the Tai Chi practitioner in multiple occasions and he didn't (because he wasn't even trying to take a proper stance, unbalance, or make a proper grip). You can't practice Judo unless both parties are willing to eat the Tatame. Concerning the rest, you are just talking gibberish or you would know why I mentioned there was no good kumi-kata, or stance; ergo, no possibility of projection. It's quite evident you are not a Judo practitioner. Much less a Dan. 2:28-2:50 for example it's an embarrassing mockery of Harai-goshi (no kuzushi) to portrait he "tried something". You practice Tai Chi, fantastic, you can talk about it all you want. Just don't try to teach me about something I practiced for 22 years. You can't have a true perspective about a martial art unless you practice it. That's why I can offer a judoka's perspective, and that's why I don't speak about Tai Chi. Telling the truth has nothing to do with humility or the lack of it. That's that. P.S. I dislike Ronda Rousey's personality quite a lot by the way.

After 30 years in martial arts and 15 years coaching - likely more than the supposed master in this video, I will say that I have seen more believable, realistic footage in WWE fake wrestling. If people think this was real then they believe The Onion and a Batboy story on the weekly world news to be real. If that stings, it's because you have never sparred in your life or because you have never actually trained against a resisting opponent. If this was real, the Tai Chi guy would enter a Judo competition, make a ton of money or show the world how effective Tai Chi is and his school. He can't and won't because he's a fraud. I am a past judo instructor whereby I spent 26 years in this wonderful Olympic Sport Art, and also have spent about 30 years in Taijiquan Yang long-form. I have always noticed the similarities of both arts; its probably why I stayed in Martial Arts for so long. If the Taiji Master was trying to demonstrate his rooting capabilities then this was a very good example and demonstration. However, I know the black belt instructor was most diffidently showing respect and not using any of the throws or take downs that are natural for this type of stance that the Master was holding. He could have easily did uchimata (inner leg reap) or kouchimata (inner heal sweep) one after the other would have put our Tai Chi Master on his back. But like I said, it was a demonstration of actual respect and showed favoritism to the Taiji form.

I dont think it's a question of it being fake. I train in japanese martial arts myself and it's well known if you keep your center of gravity lower than your opponent they wont be able to utilize throws. If you watch the clip carefully the chinese guys hips are much lower than the judokas. Thus the judokas left with no choice but to try to use force, pretty much the opposite of what judo is about.
@TheRaizo10110 жыл бұрын
Ryancontact1 Yeah don't get me wrong I do understand that, but I just think any well trained judoka knows about that as well, and would be able to find a way to turn things around. This "Wang" dude was disrespectful as fuck in the beginning. I wouldda kicked his ass out. You don't walk in someone's space of training, basically these judoka's second home and say "lol I think tai chi is better than judo xD". Even if he could back it up, you just don't say shit like that. You can't fairly say that one combat sport is better than the rest. It always depends on the practitioners. I bet somewhere out there, there's a judoka that could dominate Wang. We just haven't seen him yet. And it's the same for Tai Chi. I'm not trying to be biased for judo, I'm just saying there are all kinds of different people out there with varying skill levels of any combat sport.

People are quick to hate. I've done judo for a few years, although I am far from an expert. My 2 cents: Anyone who has done judo for any amount of time knows how easy it is to stuff throws. When you are only being defensive, like the Tai Chi guys is, it is very easy to never ever be thrown. You are actually most fragile when you shift your weight dramatically to attempt a throw. If you never attack, you can never be countered. This strategy is actually banned in most judo tournaments. It is called "anti-judo," and I believe it is a 1-time warning, a 2-time disqualification from the ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. They ban it because they don't want you to get ahead in waza-ari, then play defensive and sit on your ass for the rest of the match; it makes it impossible for you to lose once you get ahead, but it ruins the point of the match. And it is way too easy to do. A good judoka can probably throw an average untrained person even if he is trying to stuff all throws, but this Tai Chi guy clearly has a lot practice manipulating his weight, at least in a defensive way (it's not super hard). That's why I'm not so quick to denounce this as "fake." The judo guy looks like he was going moderately hard, but not all out like he would in a tournament. He was going practice hard. The Tai Chi guy was only demonstrating standing throw defense to emphasize an aspect of Tai Chi. Keep in mind that keeping your weight low and planted to avoid getting thrown will not stop a punch to the face.

There are plenty of fakes out there, but to everyone who doesn’t know Tai chi saying this is fake: Master Wang is actually practicing Tai Chi perfectly. The whole aim of martial tai chi is to have a strong root and to throw out your opponents’ centre of gravity. That is exactly what is happening here. Notice that the Judo practitioner (and I’m a huge fan of judo) is unsuccessfully trying to gain the specific foothold needed to upset Wang’s centre of gravity, but Master Wang is absolutely rooted, even to the point where his foot comes up and he’s able to retain his centre of gravity. Good Peng or staged? You be the judge, but to the trained eye this is completely legit.

The Tai Chi guy probably has some techniques that are essentially "no gi" grappling that the judoka isn't use to, which is what I see in a lot of the beginning of the video, it's just taking him a bit to get his grip, but then once he does and off balances the guy, it seems like he's letting the guy get his balance back, and he's avoiding any techniques that would just end it without question like Ouchi. If they really want to prove that Tai Chi is that good at redirecting energy and stuff they should just enter UFC.

More Non sequitur crap from naive uploaders. It does not follow that Tai Chi is better than Judo because one master stays on his feet in one bout of non-combat nonsense, just as it doesn't make judo better if the Tai chi man falls over, this is a strawman. In the totality of real combat neither Tai Chi or Judo would need to be employed as in fact Tai Chi, Judo, Boxing, Karate, etc, etc, do not exist in 'Liberated' minds as styles are for immature children only, mature men see beyond the playground and into the battlefields of combat. Ask yourself this...How long would they have been doing their supposed styles if either one of them had of gone for an eye gouge, groin grab, throat grab, knee to the groin, foot stamp, etc???. How long?.... Reality turns the 'Organised Despair' into dust with just a single wave of its hand. Sincerely, Jimi:-).

LMA UK Good lord, you're misguided. And arrogant, if you think you can just dismiss and place yourself as above codified combat practices which have informed battlefield tactics for centuries (and still do today) as "for immature children." The *point* is that since every single thing you mentioned is INSIDE of at least some codified fighting systems, and since those fighting systems have been used in myriad combat situations over the years, the idea that there is no way a martial artist training in any fighting style could possibly employ their art because their opponent uses one of those is asinine and puts your ignorance on full display.
@MichaelWestonAnimates10 жыл бұрын
LMA UK Now, there is *some* truth to your words, though I don't think you actually realize it. 1. Codified fighting systems are artificial; they ultimately all point to a core of honing the ability to employ force efficiently with your body, be aware of your opponent and environment, and deal with hostile incoming force effectively. That does NOT make them useless, it just leads to the second point... 2. It does NOT follow from this video that Taiji is better than Judo. Since they work from the same set of body skills, what this actually showed was that this Taiji practitioner was more advanced in his skill than the Judo practitioner was. Now get the fuck out with your elitist bullshit :-)

I am guessing just like everybody else. I wouldn't call myself neither a tai chi nor a judo practitioner. The judo black belt looks quite strong and most likely practiced judo for a long time, at least for 10 years. However, it was not easy to unbalance the tai chi master for a simple reason: tai chi practitioner practices to maintain balance a lot. In fact that's what the tai chi master said, test his "rooting". I am pretty sure he practices the push hands and rooting a lot. Maybe, there was previously agreed rules. Judo black belt didn't use many techniques. Somebody mentioned high grip was not used. Whatever it is, it looks like it cannot be used even though judo practitioner's hand was at the neck. Tai Chi master had a low balanced posture. There was too much gap between them for the most of the time. Balance must be destroyed before that kind of the techniques are used. Tai Chi master maintained the balance and the judo black belt didn't when he tried to apply the leg sweeping technique.

I think the key is in Master Wang's statement at 1:28 when he say's "I think in some situations Judo might not be able to beat Taiji" - I think personally that this imposed constraints on what the Judoka were allowed to attack with - it is clear form their movements that they could have implemented the attacks you suggest and Master Wang would have had no real defence.

Heads up folks, Tai-Chi is real. Some 30 years ago, when my highest level (out of 11) Martial Arts instructors was new to America, we were looking for a place to practice and found ourselves at Lake Merritt in Oakland, California. She spotted a good sized fellow walking by the lake and they struck up a conversation. My teacher, Jane Yao, could spot a Master, or someone with strong potential, from the distance of a city block. Many Masters can do that. So naturally a challenge was offered, and no matter how much he struggled, the Judo Master could not lift her from the ground. He was an Olympic Judoka and twice her size. Furthermore, she was not in the least bit winded. This stuff is real, but the highest levels are difficult to attain, and the highest level Tai-Chi Masters are a little fussy.
@spladam38452 жыл бұрын

Yeah yeah, it is really hard to throw a rooted tai chi guy, however pakua practitioners do it all the time as I believe the judo guy could also. They specialize in different ranges between the two arts shown. Its a fact that if you wrestle with someone trying takedown on your your eventually going to be taken down, and if you push with someone trying to push you out your eventually going to be pushed out. Its common since that if you stick to the main line of a style you will eventually have happen what they style teaches. However the game has been modified in mma to use more than one specialized skill and follows a systematic approach to "clinch" specialized skill," takedown" specialized skill, "submission" specialized skill. "Ground" several specialized skills. Tai chi offers "standing grappling" specialize skill," twee shu" pushing hands pushing out specialized skill, and point striking, specialized skill. Its missing takedown and ground work in most examples although it does exist in dog boxing, and chaio shio. Judo uses takedown specialized skill nei wasa. Specialized skill. Pinning techniques specialized skill. The problem isn't comparing which is better, the problem is that they are not comparing apples to apples, testing pushing out to takedowns is mute because they are two different skills.

Ive done judo for 8 years i can promise you this is a set up especially the last throw he went for one of my fave a hook to hopping osoto gari if he wanted he could have driven the master through the mat but didnt because he was told not to

People say its fake but its not necessarily so. The Judoka was obviously not allowed to pull the other one's gi. Having trained in Judo for many years, I can tell you we don´t really know how to go about without doing that. Also, I have seen serious judocas melt in front of greco roman wrestlers with a solid stance, even though both wore gi. We were training next to the wrestlers' gymnasium, and we never deluded ourselves about who was the real deal.

Clearly before the march his sensei went 'so, um, this guy's from Achina and the last person who best a Tai Chi guy was forced into hiding so, you know, let him win'

This might not be fake, Tai Chi relies on isometric and eccentric strength which is greater than concentric strength which is what the judo guy was using, the same principle is used in an authentic muay thai clinch to stop from being turned or to stop escapes etc Tai Chi has a lot of advanced things going on, its a very clever and deep art and while it probably wouldn't fair too well against MMA (which can be influenced by every countries fighting style and modern progress) it still has alot to offer. For a long time China was the leader in the world of martial arts, and their arts are very deep and sophisticated.

tai chi can do very well against mma, depends on training.

It might not be entirely fixed but at the very least they agreed to go at a very low intensity
