This is a game changer. I have been a martial artist/sensei/sifu since the late 1960's, mostly hard, combative styles. I have switched back to Tai Chi and Qi Gong over the past year and live/teach the US military in Japan. I did this form, 24 form, and 48 form back in the 1990's, but was still more involved in the hard styles. Over the past year I have been watching your videos (and others) to remember the forms, but this is the one video that not only brought me back to where I was, but has allowed me to improve my movements the most. I now practice all my forms with a book on my head on a daily basis, and only if I do not drop the book will I then move on to differing speeds and movements. I also found that I now always keep my head and shoulders aligned as if I have a book on my head even without the book. You are an excellent teacher and Sifu. Thank you!

What a pleasure to watch these movements done so extremely slowly and with a book on the head . Thank you for this . A moving work of high art .

Thank you so much 🙏❤ Surprisingly, even with a book on my head, this isn't much slower than my regular practice pace for the long form 😆I enjoy practicing this form slow and my regular pace is 26 minutes so this is only slightly slower at 28 minutes.

Good job! I’ve practiced with the book on head many times but usually drop on occasions. It’s the perfect way to remain balance throughout the entire form which is extremely long. Not for someone in a hurry, that’s for sure, and you showed how it’s done perfectly. Bravo!!!

First of all, amazing job at performing this form with a book on your head! Truly elegant yet focused. Second, I've practiced various taijiquan styles before, though most have been simply simplified forms, or people making up their own. I now want to practice traditional taijiquan. I will start practicing Yang Taijiquan long form every second day (on those days I don't do taijiquan is when I do my asana practice). Since I cannot find any taijiquan centers, plus tight on budget, I can only practice alone. I am aware of a lot of cons when it comes to trying to learn taijiquan online without a proper IRL teacher, but I'll try nonetheless. I've got to know the components of taijiquan too, like rooting, connecting your breath with the movement, moving with your hips, slightly bent knees, etc. Although I will admit I tend to forget a lot of the components when practicing, plus I am not yet familiar with the movements of Yang 108 Long Form Taijiquan, but hey! I won't give up. I'll try my best. Perhaps anyone could give me tips on my taijiquan practice?

I'm fascinated by the slowness of your Yang style long form ( with a book on the head ) . I have slowed down the Sun style 97 to 30 minutes but l've seen the Tai Chi masters doing it in about 8 minutes . I know the style is to be done faster but l enjoy the slowness too much . Is this wrong ( the slow down )?

I love practicing Tai Chi slowly too so I understand where you're coming from. I find my disconnections when I practice slowly. I think there's value in changing up your pace and experiencing slow and fast. But I like slow :)

A nice Tai Chi performance. However it has nothing to do with the traditional Tai Chi Chuan that is explained in the book above your head. The book authored by Fu Zhong Wen shows a kind of practice with different principles! However you've a good balance!
@AipingTaiChi3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 Fu Zhongwen was my teacher's teacher for many years. Li Tianji was her main teacher but her traditional Yang Style training was entirely under Fu Zhongwen so we acknowledge him as one of our grandmasters. My teacher still maintains a close relationship with Yongnian Tai Chi Association. However, our Tai Chi is not the same as them. My teacher brought her own interpretations and understandings of the principles and movements. We do try to adhere to the core principles though. My execution of the principles is not there yet ... still a long journey ahead.

A boring lifeless form! keeping the book on your head is nonsense! Even if there is leaning into the attack this is not an error.
@AipingTaiChi Жыл бұрын
This video is a challenge to see if you can, not an instruction that your form should be done like this. I was tagged in an Instagram challenge to see how long you could keep a book on your head doing your form. So I recorded my attempt at doing the entire Yang long form. It was a very eye opening training vehicle. I started out stiff but then as I went on I felt a greater spine expansion that lifted my bai hui point higher that allowed me to relax into the movements more. I had heightened awareness of my upper and lower connection. IMHO explorations like this that seem pointless provide the most valuable nuggets to your training and understanding. It's all about understanding your own body's limits.
