其實不是「薏」，這個寫法是錯的，正確應該是「穎」字，是指嫩芽的意思，麻穎就是黃麻的嫩芽、嫩葉。「薏」台語是í，沒鼻音，「穎」的台語才是ínn，有鼻音。

麻薏湯是夏天時在台中各個傳統市場黃昏市場都會有的湯，可以退火，其他縣市就沒見過這項湯品，而且麻薏湯喝涼的，很特別，因為臺灣夏天濕熱，很容易火氣大，所以到處都可以找到很多利水降火氣的食物，像冬瓜茶、青草茶、綠豆湯等等都是。第二市場有很特別的六角樓，是一個很有歷史很美的市場。

Hi Wes, glad to see you three having a good time in Taichung. I believe the wood building in the middle of Taichung park was built during the Japanese colony, when the prince of Japan visited Taiwan! The gel- like white wood ear soup was the result of slow-cooking for I don’t know how long, releasing the gel from the wood ear. People actually eat white wood ear for their gel!

有些素食自助餐店會不定時提供“地瓜蔴薏湯”😄，7：59你有經過第二市場入口的煎蘿蔔糕攤位，是很多外地觀光客會去吃的，之前假日都要排隊😆，不過我個人覺得吃起來普通，7：38裡面也有間很老的手工藝品材料店。

Ma-Ii, the green soup is a leafy vegetable. The gluey texture is natural to the vegetable. You can only find ma-Ii in the central Taiwan in the summer. In my family we usually buy it and put it in the fridge and eat it cold.

Majority of night markets and traditional markets in Taiwan are adjacent to temples or colleges/schools because of large customer base, such as those at Keelung, Shihlin, Fengjia, etc. Venders established business where the crowds are. 白木耳also called 銀耳（Tremella fuciformis）. If you cook it long time, it will becomes sticky. 白木耳 is good to your lung and breath system, "Compendium of Materia Medica 本草綱目" says so.

通常台灣的傳統市集是反過來發展的喔~~是先有廟宇~小吃~~一條街~~~一個商圈~~~~在家屋頂...廟宇的功能就很像西方教會是個聚集人群的地方，不同於西方對於教堂的神聖，東方更多是喜歡人跟神一起生活的感覺，所以商店和娛樂就聚集在周邊發展，多數傳統的廟宇周邊都有這樣的情況~~

​@@WesDaviestravel ​ 鹽埕的舊市場, 目前比較有特色的是, 當地由年輕人出來號召推動的「青銀共市」, 青 means 青年人--young people/youth, 銀 means 銀髮族--old people(use silver hair as a metaphor for this age group), 共 means together, 共市 means working together in this market. It's a local plan to encourage young people to come to the old market in the old urban area, rejuvenate this old place.
