Be extremely curious to see how the batteries do in the cold over the long haul, I know I have had battery issues in Cochrane in February. Very curious to see how it’s goes.
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 3 жыл бұрын
Tiaga has developed a proprietary liquid heating/cooling system to keep the batteries at optimal temps. If they get hot, it cools them down. If its really cold out, it warms them up. It works constantly when the sled is plugged in. If you leave the sled in the cold over night NOT plugged in, it will warm the battery up before you use it. Takes about 2 minutes and only uses %2 of your battery.

@@alftrotter468 it charges easily over night on any 110v residential plug in. If u can plug in a block heater u can charge your sled. Plus when u charge at an overnight stop the battery will stay warm and be ready for optimal performance when u head out. Like any ev it's best to preheat the battery when you are plugged in so u don't sacrifice range.
@alftrotter468
@alftrotter468 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen a whole lot of current bushes along the trail or hundreds of available block heater receptacles in places like Matagami or Sept Isles or Hearst. If you have to carry a gas generator to charge it you might just as well stick with a gas engine and then taxpayers won't be expected to pay to charge someone else's machine like cars!!
@themeach011
@themeach011 3 жыл бұрын
@@alftrotter468 it definitely makes no sense if u have to bring a generator lol. If you plan to go for days in the middle of nowhere it's not going to be an option. I'm not sure what portion of the snowmobiling public would be sledding for days and staying at places with no power but I would guess it's probably a fairly small percentage and I'd be happy to pay an extra couple bucks to the hotel to plug in for the night even though they let you plug your truck in for free when it's cold and this will only use about 1$ more power a night than your truck does when it's plugged in. Sledding mecas will catch on when more and more sleds become electric and I can see that they will want to install plugs for people so they will attract a larger clientele to their hotel. It only makes sense that if these become more popular then the services to use them will improve as well. Not going to happen over night

@@polskiewinnipeg the lithium titanate batteries are good for much lower temperatures. I'd be surprised if taiga wasn't using these or similar. What really happens when you are using headlights and hand warmers,etc.? Do we freeze to get where we want to go or ride in fear of not making it to our destination. One can always siphon a bit of gas on the trailer to get you out of a situation but what do you do when your battery goes dead? What is the life span of these batteries and is it worth replacing them or do you just scrap the sled? What do you do with the old batteries when they are dead? Carbon fiber is still pretty expensive overall, especially when it breaks. Eventually we'll get to the point where it's more widely available but that could be 10+ years down the road. 144km is 89 miles, which isn't bad for touring. But for those who do a lot of trail riding, unless there's charge points along the route, it may not be worth it. Batteries will get better, especially for winter.

Charging infrastructure isn't really that important unless you are wanting to ride several hundred kms a day. If it does 140 kms on a charge and u can plug it in over night to a 110v plug then that will be good enough for me. It will also charge in 2 hours on a 220v plug and 20 mins at an ev fast charger. Cool sled! But I feel like if I bought one, I'd miss the roar from a 800cc engine, even if its slower

There is something visceral about the gas sleds. My trail pig is a ZRT 600 and my lake runner is a 98 Tcat 1k, they dont hang with the modern stuff but ya cant beat the sound and feel.

Once they get the infrastructure issue down for these they have a ton of potential, for now i see these being useful as a sled you keep at the cabin, it isnt really there yet for long trips until the charging systems are availiable at public "gas stations"

Are they happy with the 120-130km range? What is there range goal? I don't see it being more than a small niche market until it can somehow do 250mi straight or be able to charge fast enough to be able to ride 250-300mi in a normal day. I'm not anti electric, but I am anti being stuck waiting for a battery to charge when I want to be riding.

Very interesting machine!! I wish you could have shown a quick ride to see how quite it is...I remember how the four strokes were said to be strangely quiet when they first came out and now almost zero Db. of noise!! I'm still old school triple/triple but it's interesting how far they have come in the last decade!! love SnowTrax TV. keep up the good work.....

I'm all for it, the only thing I would have a hard time with is the lack of noise, while a quiter ride would be nice, not hearing an engine revving would mess with me

I'm torn, I love it and I want one so bad, but basically every time I leave the house on my sled I do 100 miles. If the range on this was double it would be a no brainer, and I would have no reservations on buying one. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them, I hope they are wildly successful.

Also maybe a program that if you get stuck and by yourself, set a sequence of maybe 2-3 seconds of track spin say every 10 seconds while you push with your tether hooked. Just a thought.

This was a good intro, but I’m really looking forward to a ride review. As you said, this entire sled is all new from a brand new manufacturer. « It feels and rides great » is just really broad. A full review on the GoPro while riding would be great. To hear it « running » and to talk about responsiveness, handling and suspension as you’re actually experiencing it. It’s necessary because many of us won’t have a chance to test ride this thing for a long long time.

Are there heat exchangers still? I would assume so as it still generates heat. My other "concern" would be say you do run out of battery or it malfunctions on the trail. Is there a way to disconnect the drive system for easy towing? Normal sleds we can remove the belt.
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 3 жыл бұрын
It does have a tunnel mounted heat exchanger. I dont know about disconnecting the drive for towing. I very much doubt theres a setting for that.
